In India, a teacher who failed to teach his students for the entirety of the academic year returned his two years’ worth of pay, or about 2.4 million Indian rupees, setting an example of honesty in the field.
When giving back a lump sum of 2,382,228 INR to the college administration, Dr. Lallan Kumar remarked, “What kind of salary when [I] didn’t teach [the students]?”
Award-winning academician Kumar is employed as an associate professor of Hindi at a college in the Muzaffarpur region of the Indian state of Bihar.
The registrar’s office staff at the college initially refused to accept Kumar’s check for the specified amount, but they later did so after Kumar threatened to resign.
As an explanation, Kumar stated that he had never seen an educational environment in the college and that he had been unable to silence his conscience throughout his time there since his appointment.
He claimed that although 11,000 students chose Hindi as a subject, his class had a 0% attendance rate for the previous 2.9 years.
He declared that accepting the salary was unethical.
When questioned about how he came up with such a large sum, he replied that he solicited financial assistance from his friends and acquaintances.
