US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday after experiencing symptoms but continues to carry out her duties while working from home, Treasury spokesperson Lily Adams announced. Yellen, 78, will remain in quarantine at home until she can safely return to Treasury offices, Adams said in an emailed statement.
Yellen had just returned to Washington on Saturday following a three-day trip to Raleigh, North Carolina, and Austin, Texas. During her trip, she promoted the Biden administration’s Inflation Reduction Act, focusing on investments in clean energy and the Internal Revenue Service.
Despite her positive COVID-19 test, Yellen remains engaged in her responsibilities, ensuring that the Treasury Department’s work continues uninterrupted.
