The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a high-level flood warning for several districts in Sindh and Punjab, citing a forecast of heavy rainfall and strong winds from August 25 to August 30, 2024. The alert warns of medium to high flash flooding in the affected areas, posing a significant threat to life and property.
The districts placed on high alert include D.G Khan, Dadu, Kalat, Khuzdar, Barkhan, Awaran, Panjgur, Washuk, and Mastung, among others. Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions and remain vigilant, as the situation may deteriorate rapidly. The NDMA has urged authorities to take proactive measures to mitigate the impact of the expected flooding, including evacuations and provision of emergency supplies.
The heavy rainfall forecast is attributed to a low-pressure system developing in the region, which is expected to intensify in the coming days. The NDMA has warned that the flooding may be exacerbated by already saturated soil and waterlogged areas, making it essential for residents to exercise extreme caution. The authority has also assured that necessary resources and personnel are on standby to respond to any emergencies that may arise.
In light of the flood warning, the NDMA has advised residents to avoid traveling to the affected areas unless absolutely necessary and to stay away from flooded roads and areas. The authority has also emphasized the importance of staying informed through reliable sources and following evacuation orders promptly. By taking proactive measures and remaining vigilant, the impact of the expected flooding can be minimized, and lives and property can be protected.
