South Africa secured a thrilling four-wicket victory over the Netherlands in the 16th match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Saturday. David Miller’s unbeaten 59 and Tristan Stubbs’ 33 helped South Africa recover from a shaky start to achieve the 104-run target.
The Proteas’ top order struggled against the Dutch bowlers, losing four wickets for just 12 runs in 2.3 overs. However, Stubbs and Miller’s 65-run partnership brought South Africa back into the game. Despite the fall of wickets, Miller continued to bat aggressively, leading his team to victory.
Earlier, the South African bowlers dominated the Netherlands’ batting line-up, restricting them to 103-9 in 20 overs. Marco Jansen, Anrich Nortje, and Ottniel Baartman took two, two, and four wickets, respectively. The Netherlands’ Sybrand Engelbrecht and Logan van Beek put up a fight with a 54-run partnership, but ultimately, South Africa emerged victorious.
This win was a significant one for South Africa, who had previously lost to the Netherlands in two ICC events. David Miller’s impressive performance ensured that history did not repeat itself.
