The Pakistan cricket team embarked on their journey from London to the US on Friday for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, set to commence on June 1.
Upon arrival in Dallas, Team Green will face the hosts, the US, in their first Group A match on June 6.
Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board unveiled the 15-player squad for the tournament, scheduled to take place in the USA and Caribbean from June 1 to 29.
The squad includes Babar Azam (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Usman Khan.
Among the players selected, Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Saim Ayub, and Usman Khan will be making their debut appearances in the T20 World Cup, while Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim return after their last appearances in 2016 and 2021, respectively. The remaining eight players were part of the 2022 event in Australia.
Pakistan boasts an impressive track record in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup since its inception in 2007. The team clinched the title in 2009 under Younis Khan’s captaincy and reached the finals twice under Shoaib Malik (2007) and Babar Azam (2022). Additionally, they reached the semi-finals in 2010, 2012, and 2021.
