Ottawa’s stance seems to be changing weeks after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau created a diplomatic conflict with India by alleging that New Delhi may have been involved in the murder of a Canadian Sikh separatist leader.
In stark contrast to the outspoken criticism of India that the prime minister levelled in parliament, Trudeau and Foreign Minister Melanie Joly signalled on Tuesday that they did not want to escalate hostilities with that country.
What considerations may be influencing Ottawa’s attitude, is Ottawa trying to mend fences with an irate India, and will New Delhi reciprocate?
