In a touching letter to his daughter Ansha on Wednesday, retired cricketer Shahid Afridi expressed his sorrow at her union with Pakistani bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi.
A day before, the wedding ceremony was held in Karachi.
Following their two-year engagement, the pair wed in a private nikah ceremony in February of this year.
The former cricketer composed Urdu couplets for his daughter and posted them in an emotional and poignant post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The phrase “Aya tha ghar main noor abhi kal ki baat hai”
Ankhon kay saamney rukhsat bhi ho raha
Terey Baba’s “dil magar” is “dooba hua bhi hai”
Afridi wrote, “Umeed subh-e-nau isey ayi hai thamney.
An emotional statement from Shahid Afridi to his daughter Ansha on her marriage to Shaheen
The former Pakistan captain uploaded two pictures of himself with the newlyweds along with the couplet. Both photos, which were taken from behind, show Afridi smiling and tenderly hugging his daughter and son-in-law.
The former all-rounder can be seen in one of the photos bending near Ansha and displaying the emotions of a father saying goodbye to his daughter.
Afridi’s daughter is pictured in the image sporting a beautifully crafted crimson dress that is adorned with gold zardozi and sequin embroidery.
Social media users have been sharing pictures from the wedding, which was held at a private wedding site in Karachi. Shaheen can be seen mixing with guests and Pakistan captain and fellow cricketer Babar Azam during the happy event.
The 23-year-old fast bowler arrived at the location with his family to receive his wife, and Misbah-ul-Haq, Saeed Anwar, Tanveer Ahmed, and Sohail Khan were among the notable guests at the rukhsati (saying goodbye) ceremony.
Seven months ago, the couple wed in Karachi. Ansha’s rukhsati, however, was postponed until September. However, on September 21, their valima ceremony will take place in Islamabad.
