Parvez Elahi, the president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was held by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab on Saturday, one day after receiving bail from a court that deals with counterterrorism in the Federal Judicial Complex (FJC) attack case. This means that he is still stuck in a “jail carousel.”
Parvez Elahi is detained by an anti-corruption agency in the Lahore Master Plan case
The former chief minister of Punjab has been escorted by ACE personnel to the courthouse for temporary detention; later this evening, he will be brought to the ACE headquarters in Lahore.
Four corruption cases are pending against Elahi, according to officials.
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad had earlier granted bail to the PTI president in the case involving the attack on the courthouse.
Elahi’s bail was granted by ATC Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain in exchange for a Rs 20,000 surety bond, which Elahi’s legal team failed to provide.
Elahi was taken into custody by the Anti-corruption Establishment (ACE) from the Adiala jail as a result of the bail bond not being paid.
Even though the Lahore High Court (LHC) had specifically forbidden the authorities from arresting the PTI president earlier that day, the PTI president was taken into custody hours after being released from the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) custody on September 1.
The high court’s order from July 13, 2023, was repeated in the order from September 1. Since the disturbances on May 9, Elahi has been imprisoned and arrested numerous times.
Sources claim that after his arrest today, Elahi is being transported to Lahore on a one-day temporary remand that has been approved by duty judge Shahrukh Arjumand.
The PTI president must appear before the appropriate court by tomorrow (Sunday), according to the court’s decision.
Sardar Abdul Razzaq, Parvez Elahi’s attorney, stated to the media that no corruption cases had been filed against his client in Punjab.
“Elahi’s bail was not yet paid in full. He wasn’t even released before being detained again for another offense, the attorney continued.
Elahi was reportedly taken into custody outside of the jail and brought to court for temporary remand, according to Razzaq. “Elahi has been arrested for the 12th time,” he declared.
According to an ACE spokeswoman, Elahi was taken into custody from Rawalpindi and was arrested in connection with the corruption investigation surrounding the Lahore Master Plan 2050.
According to the spokesperson, Elahi wanted to merge his lands in Lahore by manipulating the project and committed fraud to benefit himself financially.
He continued by saying that phony documents were also added to the Master Plan, along with fake seals and monograms of a consulting business.
The spokesperson claimed that attempts had been made to turn agricultural land into commercial and residential space in order to generate billions of rupees. Parvez Elahi abused his position, he continued, to his financial advantage.
He continued by saying that the PTI president had improperly exploited his position of power to persuade the relevant personnel to approve the project. The statement added that Elahi had been the subject of a Lahore court lawsuit alleging falsification in the Master Plan.
The statement continued, “All the suspects involved in the Lahore Master Plan will be apprehended.”
