The chief minister of India’s Assam state, Himanta Biswa, stated on Monday that he had given Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan his word that the continuing protests against his upcoming film “Pathaan” will be resolved.
The chief minister posted on Twitter, “Bollywood actor [Shah Rukh Khan] contacted me and we talked this morning at 2 am.”
“During the showing of his video, he voiced his concern on a situation in Guwahati. I reassured him that the state government had a responsibility to uphold law and order. We’ll look into it and make sure there are no more unfavourable situations.”
Protests against “objectionable content” in the movie, particularly in its promotional song Besharam Rung, have erupted in several parts of India as the premiere date of SRK’s star-studded film Pathaan approaches.
The most recent of these violent demonstrations took place in Assam on January 20, when members of the right-wing Bajrang Dal stormed LG Towers and violently removed posters advertising the film.
The movie is slated to be released on January 25, but the Bajrang Dal issued a warning that it would not be permitted to be shown anywhere in the state.
