AMSTERDAM: Three men were convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison in absentia by Dutch judges on Thursday for their roles in the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 over Ukraine in 2014.A fourth man was found not guilty.On July 17, 2014, a passenger plane, MH17, was shot down over eastern Ukraine, killing all 298 passengers and crew.
“Only the most severe punishment is appropriate to retaliate for what the suspects have done, which has caused so much suffering to so many victims and surviving relatives,” Presiding Judge Hendrik Steenhuis said, reading a summary of the ruling.
