A day after a well-known businessman from Dubai appeared on the station and claimed he had purchased some of the state presents from Farah Gogi and Shahzad Akbar, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, criticised a local news channel and its anchor for a “baseless tale.”
The ousted premier insisted on Twitter that the TV station and anchorperson were “backed by handlers” in a post on the social media platform. He said that he had been “slandered… through a false tale put up by a notorious fraudster and internationally wanted criminal.”
Imran claimed that after consulting with his attorneys, he had decided to sue the network and the presenter “not only in Pakistan but also in the UK and the UAE.”His comments came after businessman Umar Farooq Zahoor said in an interview that he spent $2 million on pricey things given to the PTI leader by the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.
