In the event that adverse conditions prevent the completion of the Super-over due to inclement weather, Pakistan and England will be awarded a joint victory.
Pakistan and England are going to compete against each other in the final of the Twenty20 World Cup on Sunday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). On Saturday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) revealed that there will be some minor adjustments to the final playing conditions.
According to an official release, “The Event Technical Committee (ETC) has increased the provision of additional playing time on the reserve day to four hours from the original provision of two hours (clause 13.7.3 of the Playing Conditions), in case more time is required to complete the match and get a result”.
“It may be noted that ten overs per side are required to constitute a match in the knockout stage, and every effort will be taken to complete the match on the scheduled match day, with any necessary reduction of overs taking place,” the release stated.
As per the release, “Only if the minimum number of overs necessary to constitute a match cannot be bowled on Sunday will the match go into the reserve day. Play on the reserve day will begin at 15h00 (9:30 AM IST) and would be a continuation of play from the scheduled match day”.
There is additional time available for the match to be finished on Sunday in the amount of 30 minutes, and there is additional time available for the match to be finished on Monday in the amount of four hours.
A super-over will be played at the end of the contest if the scores are tied at the end of the match; however, if the weather prevents the super-over from being completed, Pakistan and England will be proclaimed joint victors of the match.
