During the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, Indian batsman Virat Kohli yelled at a supporter for invading his personal space. The batsman, who was staying in a hotel in Perth, provided unsettling information about how someone broke into his hotel suite and recorded a video of it. He also said that he is uncomfortable with his “sort of fanaticism” and that he isn’t cool with it.
Anushka Sharma, Kohli’s famous wife, also criticised the fan for entering her husband’s apartment, calling it “an absolute humiliation and violation of a human being.” The two have consistently emphasised the importance of maintaining their privacy.
He posted a video of the occurrence along with the caption, “I realise that fans become really thrilled and delighted seeing their favourite players and get excited to meet them. I’ve always appreciated that. However, this movie is disgusting and has left me feeling extremely anxious about my privacy.
Added he, “Where can I truly expect any personal space if I can’t even have it in my hotel room? This level of fanaticism and complete breach of privacy is not acceptable to me. Please respect people’s privacy and refrain from using them as a source of amusement.”
Sharma expressed her disappointment and questioned where the line should be drawn in the face of such behaviour. “Have seen a few occasions when certain fans have shown no compassion or grace in the past, but this really is the worst thing,” the actor remarked while posting a screenshot of the video.”
Added she, “A complete disgrace and abuse of a human person, and everyone who sees this and assumes that “you are a star, you should deal with it” is acceptable behaviour should be aware that they are contributing to the issue. Everyone benefits from using self-control. Where is the line if this is happening in your bedroom?
