Looking for ideas for your autumnal beauty look? As the days grow shorter, it’s time to think outside the box and embrace bold colour. Much like we switch from naked nail polish to vampy oxblood during the winter months, looking for richer and warmer shades in our make-up palettes can help to illuminate the skin and perk up a tired complexion.
“As the weather gets cooler, we tend to wear darker clothes, so adding a pop of colour into your make-up look can lift your appearance immeasurably,” says Nikki Wolff, the make-up artist behind the images you see here. “After all, what’s more stylish than an all-black ensemble and a bright red lip?”
According to Wolff, a bold lip is a look that can work for almost anyone if you find the right colour and texture. “To keep it wearable, choose a matte finish over satin or gloss,” she suggests. “When wearing a bright shade, matte lips make a real statement and are often more flattering and easier to wear than glossy textures.”
Dior’s Rouge Dior lipsticks, which glide onto the lips and are transfer-proof, mean you can trust that they won’t budge, are among the best brights to try right now. “They have a barely-there feel and dry down to a matte finish, allowing you to create the perfect shape, and they’re super long-wearing,” Wolff adds.
“This autumn, smudgy, smoky eyeliner is also making a comeback,” says Wolff. “Heavily line your waterline with a black or dark brown kohl pencil, then blend into the root of your lashes with a fingertip or pencil brush for maximum impact.” While graphic lines, as seen here, are another ongoing make-up trend at the shows, they are admittedly much more difficult to wear on a daily basis.
