One-sixth of Australians are covered by Medibank Private Ltd, which recently revealed that 200 terabytes of data had been stolen in a heist that involved 100 clients’ personal information, including medical diagnoses and treatments.
The business did not specify how many of its 4 million clients were probably impacted, but it did warn that the number was probably going to increase. Without making any more comments, the Australian Federal Police said that they had started an inquiry into the incident.
The revelation intensifies anxiety around a series of cyberattacks on Australia’s largest companies since No.Up until recently, the majority of public discussion has centred on the possibility that hackers could access bank accounts using stolen data. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, it received a message from a person posing as the Medibank hacker threatening to release medical details of famous people unless they were paid.
According to Cybersecurity Minister Clare O’Neill, “What we have here is… healthcare information and that just on its own being made public can cause immense harm to Australians and that’s why we are so engaged with this.”
