Senator Sherry Rehman, the federal minister for climate change, met with Dr. Riina Kionka, the ambassador of the European Union (EU), on Thursday to discuss the ongoing rescue and relief efforts in the flood-affected areas as well as the additional technical and monetary support required for the rehabilitation of the affected people.
EU Ambassador Dr. Riina Kionka expressed deep concern over the destruction caused by the floods and assured Pakistan of the European Union’s full support.
Minister Rehman expressed gratitude to the EU Ambassador for their assistance, saying, “We appreciate EU’s cooperation during these difficult times and are turning towards the international community to assist in the reconstruction process. Each province in Pakistan has distinct needs as a result of its distinctive topography. Although we work closely with the provincial governments, we need require support and technical capacity. At the upcoming COP-27, we will put Pakistan’s situation front and centre, and the country’s COP-27 agenda will centre on loss, damage, and adaptation. Another item on the meeting agenda will be accessibility to climate finance.
Dr. Riina Kionka expressed her sincere sympathy for the fatalities brought on by the tragic floods and promised the European Union would be there for them in every way.
