Meghan Wears a Slogan T-Shirt
The Duchess of Sussex wore a black T-shirt with the Farsi message “Women, Life, Freedom” to show her support for Iranian women and girls. Meghan wore the top to a Women@Spotify event at the company’s LA headquarters, where she was joined by Iranian executives Mandana Dayani, president of Archewell, and Ashley Hansen, executive vice president of global communications.
Dayani posted several pictures from the event on Instagram along with a caption reading, “At an event today, Meghan spoke about the revolution being led by women and young girls in Iran, the strength and bravery they display every day, and their leadership and fight for basic human rights. “I could not have been more grateful for how she chooses, time and time again, to advocate for women around the world,” said the Iranian woman who left her country in search of these very freedoms.
Following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini while in police detention in September, protests have been occurring all over Iran. She had been detained by Tehran’s morality police for “improperly” donning the required headscarf in public, and she passed away three days later. Reports indicate that she was beaten by police before going into a coma, despite the fact that authorities stated she died of a heart attack.
Since then, Iranian women have burned their hijabs and cut off their hair during protests while yelling “women, life, freedom.” Schoolgirls have also been participating in the demonstrations by uploading images and videos of themselves sans hijabs. According to the Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran, over 200 people have died since the protests started last month.
