Xi said China will never relinquish its right to use force against Taiwan
Beijing In a speech marking the start of the Communist Party Congress in Beijing , President Xi Jinping vowed that China would “never commit to abandoning the use of force” in the Taiwan issue.
“The Taiwan issue is a matter for the Chinese people, and it must be resolved by the Chinese people alone. We will continue to strive with the greatest sincerity and effort for the prospect of peaceful reunification, but we will never commit to abandoning the use of force and will reserve the option to take all necessary measures “Xi told delegates from the Communist Party gathered in Beijing’s Great Hall of the People.
“The historical wheels of national reunification and revitalization are turning,” Xi added. “The motherland’s reunification must and will be achieved.”
On the issue, Xi condemned “separatism and interference.”
He also praised Hong Kong’s transition from “chaos to governance” following the implementation of a national security law in 2020, which has stifled dissent in the once-radical city.
“The situation in Hong Kong has progressed from chaos to governance,”
