Imran Khan’s PTI leads rivals in all three provinces.
Initial results from Sunday’s key by-elections in three provinces show that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its party chairman, former prime minister Imran Khan, are leading on six out of eight seats in the National Assembly (NA) and two out of three seats in the Punjab Assembly (PP).
In Sheikhupura and Karachi’s Malir seats, however, unofficial and inconclusive results show that the PML-N and PPP candidates are in the lead.
NA-237 (Karachi Malir) (Karachi Malir)
Imran Khan lost the Malir by-election to PPP candidate Hakim Baloch by a margin of more than 10,000 votes, dealing a blow to the PTI. Imran Khan, a former prime minister, received 22,493 votes to the PPP’s 32,567 votes.
NA-24 (Charsadda) (Charsadda)
In the Charsadda by-election, PTI Chairman Imran Khan defeated veteran ANP politician Aimal Wali Khan by garnering 78,589 votes to the latter’s 68,356.
NA-22 (Mardan) (Mardan)
Imran Khan, the leader of the PTI, defeated Maulana Qasim, the nominee of the JUI-F, by a margin of 8,500 votes. Imran received 76,681 votes, while the opposing candidate received 68,181 votes to finish second.
