In response to Kyiv’s sustained progress in its battle to recover the southern Ukrainian territory, Russia stated its military will assist in evacuating people of occupied Kherson to other places.
Russia Assistance
Marat Khusnullin, the deputy prime minister of Russia, made the announcement shortly after Vladimir Saldo, the head of the Moscow-backed government in Kherson, requested assistance from the Kremlin in evacuating residents. This was the latest sign that Russian forces were having difficulty fending off Ukrainian advances.
Saldo stated that deadly airstrikes were being carried out across Kherson, one of the four regions of Ukraine that Russia asserts it illegally seized.
According to Saldo, the local Russian authorities “agreed to organise the possibility of Kherson households travelling to other regions of the Russian Federation.”
“We urged that all residents of the Kherson region take their children and leave, if there is a desire for them to do so, in order to protect themselves from the effects of missile strikes.”
As Kyiv moves forward with its objective to retake some of the territory that Russia took in the early stages of the invasion, fighting in Kherson has been worse recently.
