A divisional bench of the Supreme Court, presided over by Justice Ijazul Ahsan, heard the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) appeal against the former chief minister of Punjab, Hamza Shahbaz, and ordered publication of an advertisement in the newspaper announcing the summons for the PML-N leader.
The parties were unable to abide by the notifications, according to Deputy Prosecutor NAB.
Justice Ijazul Ahsan stated that the SC had already instructed the LHC Registrar to comply with the summons, and the LHC Registrar had issued an instruction that the court be informed 10 days prior to the arrest of Hamza Shahbaz.
The Lahore High Court’s findings were contested by the NAB.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son, Hamza Shahbaz, were previously exonerated by a special court in Lahore on Wednesday in a Rs16 billion money laundering case.
Judge Ijaz Hassan Awan read out the brief decision that had been reserved earlier in the day.
The FIA informed the court during the hearing on Tuesday that no direct transactions from benami (unnamed) accounts had been made into the bank accounts of PM Shehbaz and his son.
Shehbaz and his two sons, Hamza and Suleman, were detained by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in November 2020 on Sections 419, 420, 468, 471, 34, and 109 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, as well as Section 3/4 of the Anti-Money Laundering Act.
