According to a military statement, nine rockets were fired around the Green Zone of the Iraqi capital, which houses the government and international embassies, as a parliament session to choose a new president was about to start.
The statement noted that a number of security personnel were hurt in the incident on Thursday without providing any other information, however a security official told AFP that 10 people were hurt as a consequence of the attack.
One of the rockets, he said, had fallen close to the Capitol.
At least three missiles are said to have fallen in the Green Zone, according to a Reuters witness and sources in the parliament.
No one immediately took blame.
Similar assaults occurred last month during a vote to affirm the speaker of the parliament.
Although there have been frequent rocket strikes on the Green Zone in recent years, they are mostly launched by militia groups with support from Iran towards Western objectives.
