Biden promises advanced air defense systems to Ukraine.
According to the White House, US President Joe Biden has promised to provide Ukraine with advanced air defence systems. Biden “promised to continue providing Ukraine with the support needed to defend itself, including advanced air defence systems” during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The statement comes after a string of Russian airstrikes on Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv. Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened Ukraine with more “severe” attacks. Biden “conveyed his condolences to the loved ones of those killed and injured in these senseless attacks,” according to a White House statement. According to Kyiv, Russia fired more than 80 missiles on Ukrainian cities, killing at least 14 people. Biden also “reiterated his commitment to working with allies and partners to continue imposing costs on Russia (and) holding Russia accountable for its war crimes and atrocities.”
At the UN, Ukraine labels Russian “terrorist state.”
At a meeting of the United States General Assembly, Ukraine referred to Russia as a “terrorist state” due to Moscow’s stated takeover of four Ukrainian territories. Sergiy Kyslytsa, the ambassador of Ukraine to the UN, declared that “Russia has demonstrated once again that this is a terrorist state that must be discouraged in the strongest possible ways.” As long as an unstable and insane regime is present close by, he continued, “unfortunately, you can scarcely speak for a stable and sane peace.” 14 people were killed and 97 were injured in Russian attacks on Kyiv and a number of other Ukrainian cities, Kyslytsa added.
Biden and Zelenskyy talk about air defence.
The Russian airstrikes won’t scare Ukraine, the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated on Telegram on Monday night. However, he advised people to remain in their shelters and pay attention to air raid alarms. Additionally, he stated on Twitter that he and [US President Joe Biden] had a “good conversation.” Air defence is currently the top priority in our defence cooperation, he stressed, due to the biggest wave of air strikes against Ukraine since the war started. Zelenskyy also emphasised the necessity of US backing for a UN General Assembly resolution denouncing Russia’s illegitimate takeover of a number of Ukrainian areas.
