A technical committee has been formed to investigate the fire that broke out at a shopping mall in Islamabad’s F-8 district on Sunday.
According to Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, the matter will be pursued in light of the technical committee’s report.
He declared that the committee will look into whether or not the mall’s alarm system and fire extinguishing system functioned, as well as whether or not emergency drills had ever been held.
Memon stated that departure and rescue methods from the mall will also be revised in the event of an emergency.
Prior to this, Islamabad’s high-rises would all undergo a post-fire building stability evaluation by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
All structures taller than 50 feet would be subject to a fire audit, it was determined in a meeting on Monday led by CDA Chairman Captain (r) Muhammad Usman Younis.
Additionally, it was determined to evaluate high-rise structures using actual mock exercises. The summit also noted the need for better emergency services response and for emergency disaster cells to be outfitted with cutting-edge technology.
Additionally, the CDA Chairman declared that certificates would be given to the Rescue 1122, Rawalpindi crew for their active participation in rescue and firefighting operations.
On Sunday, a major fire broke out in the food court on the fourth floor of the shopping mall as hundreds of families were busy dining and shopping on various floors of the Islamabad mall.
The CDA administration acknowledged that the fire was put out after two hours, however the cooling process later lasted for more than an hour. According to the Islamabad Police, rescue teams used a back door to free persons trapped inside the mall before conducting an interior search.
Prior to the technical team’s report on the towers’ structural viability following the fire incident, the Mall and its associated residential towers were sealed as a precaution.
