BEIRUT/JERUSALEM: Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid announced on Tuesday that Lebanon and Israel have reached a historic agreement demarcating a contentious maritime border between them after years of discussions mediated by the US.
A limited agreement would ease a source of recent tensions and represent a remarkable concession between nations with a history of antagonism and war. It would also pave the way for offshore energy exploration.Lapid stated in a statement that “this is a historic success that will enhance Israel’s security, inject billions into Israel’s economy, and ensure the stability of our northern border.”
