Ishaq Dar, a senior member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and the Finance Minister had their perpetual arrest warrants revoked by an accountability court in Islamabad after they both appeared in court on Friday.
Ishaq Dar was also mandated by the court to provide a one million rupee surety bond.
Dar’s attorney Qazi Misbah urged with the court at the hearing to permanently revoke his warrants and to revoke the decision to seize his property. While the case’s hearing was postponed until October 12
The attorney informed the judge that the arrest warrants had been obtained in order for Dar to come before the court and that they should be revoked now that the minister was there.
The prosecutor for the anti-corruption agency was questioned by Judge Bashir: “Did NAB also issue arrest warrants of Ishaq Dar?”
The body of anti-graft said yes, but added that the warrants were suspended.
The court questioned, “What is your opinion today, should the warrants be revoked or not?”
The NAB prosecutor responded in favour of the revocation of the warrants, stating that they had been issued to guarantee Dar’s attendance in the case.
The court then said that because a second reference had been filed against Dar, he would need to be indicted once more.
Dar’s attorney said that they will make arguments on the supplemental reference.
The court sent letters to NAB about the application filed against the confiscation of Dar’s property and permanent exemption from attendance before continuing the hearing until October 12.
NAB must present its views at the next hearing on both motions, per a court order.
Speaking to the media, he stated no one would be permitted to intentionally manipulate the value of the rupee.
The Minister said that the value of the rupee was rising with each passing day, but he lamented that Pakistan’s previous administration had artificially undervalued the rupee.
According to the Minister, our foreign debt has dropped by 2600 billion rupees in only a few days because to the higher value of the rupee.
The Minister claimed that the allegations of not submitting tax returns against him are unfounded and just intended as a form of political retaliation.
