The Old Bailey Court in London heard on Wednesday that a man accused of threatening to assassinate the late Queen Elizabeth after being apprehended at her Windsor Castle residence on Christmas Day last year will go on trial in 2019.
Jaswant Singh Chail, 20, is accused of threatening to murder the 96-year-old Queen and of having a loaded crossbow with the purpose to use it against her. He has also been charged with carrying an offensive weapon under the British Treason Act.
Elizabeth, who passed away this month, was present at the castle on the day of the invasion together with her son, the current King Charles, and other members of their immediate family.
Chail, who showed up via videolink for the hearing on Wednesday and was dressed in a black sweatshirt, only spoke to confirm his name and birthdate.
He was informed that the trial would begin on March 20 and run for two to three weeks.
Chail was kept in detention, the case was postponed so that further evidence could be gathered, and he refused to enter a plea. The next hearing will occur in December at a time that has not yet been determined.
