The latest ambitious initiative to be shelved as the business attempts to slash expenses is Google’s digital gaming service Stadia.
A Google vice president, Phil Harrison, said in a blog post on Thursday that the gaming service, which debuted in 2019 and works on phones and the Chrome browser, “hasn’t acquired the momentum with consumers that we expected.” He stated, “We’ve made the tough choice to start winding down our Stadia streaming service.
Harrison claims that Google saw Stadia as a chance to use its cloud streaming capabilities and provide immersive gaming “at tremendous scale.” According to the Stadia FAQ website, servers will be switched off on January 18. Stadia was designed with the intention of competing with other gaming services like Sony’s.
