In a statement released on Tuesday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) refuted and denounced the accusations made by a “political person,” declaring that “it is and will continue to take judgments in line with law and the Constitution without yielding to any pressure.”
The election monitor stated in a news statement that “any such careless claims (being levelled against the Commission) are false and based on lies.”
The ECP said that setting the date of a general election was not within its purview. Only one of two scenarios might result in an election: either the prime minister dissolved the existing assemblies or the current assemblies finished their terms. Currently, nothing of the kind has occurred.
It said that once elections were held, the ECP would carry out its duty and guarantee that they were transparent, free, and fair.
