South Korean and Japanese officials have confirmed that North Korea has launched a ballistic missile into the ocean off the Korean peninsula’s east coast.
According to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, the short-range missile was launched early Sunday morning local time from the Taechon region of North Pyongan Province (JCS).
It stated that following the launch, which it referred to as “a substantial provocative move that undermines peace and safety of the Korean Peninsula as well as the world community,” the military of South Korea and the US are maintaining “full readiness posture” and close cooperation.
The JCS demanded that North Korea “immediately desist,” claiming that the launch was a “clear breach” of the resolution of the UN Security Council.
