ISLAMABAD: On Sunday, a district and sessions court in Islamabad granted police a one-day physical remand of senior journalist Ayaz Amir in connection with the death of his Canadian-born daughter-in-law.
Ayaz Amir was detained by the police one day after his daughter-in-law Sarah Inam was killed.The renowned journalist was presented by the police before serving judge Zahid Tirmiz at the start of today’s session. Amir told the court that he was in Chakwal at the time of the murder.
“I reported the incident to the police on my own. I gave the SHO the farmhouse’s address, the journalist claimed.
His attorney stated that there is no proof in the murder case against Ayaz Amir, and that the police have also verified that they were informed of the journalist’s murder.The attorney pleaded with the court to free his client, claiming that “Ayaz Amir is not nominated in the FIR.”
