The official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said on Sunday that Saudi Arabia had launched five new projects to generate power using renewable energy.
The National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), which is overseen by the Ministry of Energy, was inaugurated in its fourth stage, according to the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPA).
According to SPA, the plan will feature three wind energy projects with a combined capacity of 1,800 megawatts and two solar energy projects with a combined capacity of 1,500 megawatts, for a total installed capacity of 3,300 megawatts.
According to a statement on the Ministry of Energy website, the NREP seeks to maximise Saudi Arabia’s usage of renewable energy, which goes hand in hand with Vision 2030.
One of the key objectives of Vision 2030 is for renewable energy to account for up to 50% of the total energy mix by that year.
According to the statement, “The NREP programme lays out an organised and precise road map to diversify local energy sources, promote economic growth, and provide sustainable economic stability to the Kingdom in light of the goals set for Vision 2030, which include establishing the renewable energy industry and supporting the advancement of this promising sector while working to fulfil the Kingdom’s commitments to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.”
