Following more than a week of demonstrations in response to the death of a young lady in detention, Iranian police have detained more than 700 individuals in only one region, according to a report on Saturday by Tasnim news agency.
The police head of Guilan province, General Azizollah Maleki, declared “the arrest of 739 rioters, including 60 women,” according to Iranian media.
State media earlier on Saturday stated that at least 35 people had died in the more than week-long protests that had broken out across the nation following Mahsa Amini’s passing.
The Borna news agency, which is connected to the sports ministry, said late Friday that “the number of persons who perished in recent disturbances in the nation has increased to 35 people.”
Prior to this, there had been 17 confirmed deaths, including five security officers.
Since Amini’s passing, protesters have gathered in Tehran and other major Iranian cities for eight consecutive nights.
Three days after being detained in the Iranian capital for donning the hijab headscarf in a “improper” manner, the 22-year-old Kurdish lady was declared dead.
