The police’s request for permission to issue arrest warrants for senior journalist Ayaz Amir and his wife in connection with the killing of their Canadian-born daughter-in-law was accepted by a local court in Islamabad.
Following a Friday argument over a “family matter,” senior journalist Ayaz Amir’s son Shahnawaz is accused of killing his wife Sara in their home.Shahnawaz admitted to the crime and claimed that he “thought” his wife was having an affair with another person when he was detained by the police from the farmhouse in Islamabad’s Chak Shahzad neighbourhood.
The investigating officer informed Mubashir Hassan Chishti, a civil judge, that the suspect “killed his wife in cold blood” when the defendant was brought before him today.During the hearing, the police asked the judge to order Shahnawaz to be physically detained for questioning for ten days.Shahnawaz’s attorney responded that since it was a “blind murder,” they support the police’s plea for remand.
