ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday moved Supreme Court (SC) against by-elections on eight constituencies of the National Assembly on October 16.
According to PTI’s argument, which was made by Faisal Chaudhry, ECP intends to organise by-elections in “chosen” constituencies against the law and the constitution.
PTI asked with the court to put off ruling on the plea regarding the resignation of 123 PTI MNAs until the by-election schedule was decided.
On September 14, the election commission stated that all Karachi districts will have local government elections on October 23 while eight NA constituencies would hold by-elections on October 16.
The commission had earlier on September 8 postponed the planned by-elections in 13 constituencies. The CEC Sultan Sikandar Raja made the choice while in charge of a high-level meeting.
It was decided to postpone the by-elections set for September 11, September 25, and October 2 and to notify the new dates as soon as possible. According to the election commission, the disastrous rains and floods were the reason the by-election was postponed.
