‘Pakistan’s team hotel altered following Mohsin’s involvement.’

Pakistan’s team hotel in Dallas was moved after the country’s cricket board head, Mohsin Naqvi, intervened due to the great distance between the hotel and the Grand Prairie Stadium, the squad’s match and practice facilities in the city.

According to reports, Mohsin phoned the International Cricket Council (ICC) to convey his discontent with the Pakistan team’s accommodation arrangements. His efforts persuaded the event organisers to move the team’s accommodation, according to reports.

The original hotel where the squad was meant to stay was a 90-minute drive from the stadium, but the new hotel is barely five minutes away.

The PCB chairman informed the ICC that if the Pakistan team’s accommodation was not altered, he would move the squad to a better and more convenient location at the expense of the board.

According to sources, Mohsin told the ICC that the national cricket team is his duty, and he will do all it takes to keep the players comfortable.

According to reports, the Indian cricket team is lodging only 10 minutes from the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, when other teams’ accommodations are more than an hour away.

South Africa and Sri Lanka have previously voiced reservations about the amenities available during their stay in the city. The Babar Azam-led team will play archrivals India on June 9 and Canada on June 11, with their last first-round encounter against Ireland on June 16 in Lauderhill, Florida.

USA surprises the cricket world and the general public by defeating Pakistan in the Twenty20 World Cup.

USA’s thrilling triumph against long-standing rival Pakistan on Thursday was always going to need something significant to draw in American cricket fans.

In the competition’s history, the most significant shock occurred when the T20 World Cup rookies defeated the 2009 winners and 2022 finalists in a dramatic Super Over match in Dallas.

Although everyone in the cricket world celebrated the win, only ardent supporters of the USA’s extremely specialized sport really saw it.

Just 7,000 people may watch the game in a repurposed minor-league baseball complex in the Grand Prairie neighbourhood of Dallas, Texas, which is co-hosting the event with the United States.

The match was exclusively available on the cricket-focused Willow TV subscription channel and streaming service; it wasn’t even televised on American television.

However, American sports fans immediately learned about their team’s success on the internet and via social media.

The ICC, which selected the USA and the West Indies to co-host this event in an effort to support efforts to popularise the T20 format in the USA, will be pleased with everything.

Before the Caribbean region assumes exclusive control of the latter stages, games in the group stage are also being held in Texas, Florida, and New York.

T20 World Cup: Green Shirts arrive in New York before of Pakistan-India showdown.

The Green Shirts landed in New York on Friday ahead of the June 9 T20 World Cup match between Pakistan and India, according to state television PTV News.

The Pakistani Consulate General in New York announced the team’s arrival, according to a post on X by PTV News.

“Consul General Aamer Ahmad Atozai warmly welcomed the team, led by captain Babar Azam,” the statement reads, adding that Atozai wished them luck in the T20 World Cup.

“We urge the Pakistani diaspora and cricket enthusiasts in New York and across the United States to come out in large numbers to support our team,” the Consul General said, as reported by PTV News.

On Thursday, in their opening encounter of the competition, the Green Shirts were dealt a crushing blow by hosts the United States, startling both cricket experts and Pakistanis.

Pakistan will now meet archrivals India on June 9 at 7:30 p.m. (PKT) at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, where security will be increased following allegations of threats specifically tied to the event.

They will subsequently face Canada on June 11 at 7:30 p.m. (PKT) on the same pitch. The competition is co-hosted by the United States and West Indies.

Pakistan’s performance in the US encounter falls short, according to Babar.
Pakistan has a habit of underestimating less experienced teams in important events, according to captain Babar Azam, who also stated that his team played much below their potential in Thursday’s encounter.

The United States defeated Pakistan in a Super Over in Dallas, causing one of the largest upsets in Twenty20 World Cup history and securing their second victory of the tournament.

Pakistan has already lost to lower-ranked competition in key events, with the 2009 winners falling to Zimbabwe in the 2022 T20 World Cup and Afghanistan in the 50-overs World Cup the previous year.

“If you don’t execute your strategy against any team, that team will defeat you. I feel we are not meeting expectations in terms of execution. We are performing well in practice, but we are not implementing our team plans during the contest.”

Babar also regretted his team’s failure to capture wickets in the opening half of the US innings, citing an early 68-run partnership between Mohank Patel and Andries Gous as critical to the host nation’s chase.

“We are not playing good in all three departments,” Babar stated. “We are better than that in the bowling department; we are not taking wickets in the first six overs.” In the middle overs, if your spinner isn’t taking wickets, pressure is on the team.

Stronger food safety systems are called for by the president of Pakistan

June 7 (Xinhua) – ISLAMABAD According to Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, addressing the country’s food safety issues would require both research funding and the use of cutting-edge technology. He stated on Friday that bolstering food security systems is essential to guaranteeing food that is clean, safe, and nutrient-dense.

“All stakeholders must work together to ensure food safety as it is a shared responsibility.” In honour of World Food Safety Day, the president stated in his speech that “we must uphold the strictest food safety regulations for the welfare of our people.”

The need to take proactive steps to emphasise good hygiene and safeguard our food chain has never been higher, Zardari noted, since food-borne illnesses and worldwide pandemics are becoming more commonplace these days.

He said that in order to be ready for the unanticipated in terms of food safety, it is necessary to foresee potential risks and vulnerabilities in the food chain and put strong measures in place to mitigate them. He also mentioned the need of investing in food surveillance systems, bolstering pertinent laboratories, and enhancing emergency response mechanisms in order to identify food safety threats before they become crises.

In addition, he stated that encouraging optimal agricultural techniques will help lower the risk of food-borne illnesses and raise the standard of Pakistan’s food supply.

The president also urged the use of television and other social media channels to educate the public about food safety and the need of consuming clean, sanitary meals.

Internet addiction changes brain chemistry in young individuals, a research reveals.

Internet addicted young individuals have alterations in their brain chemistry that may lead to more addictive behaviours.

The study, which was published in PLOS Mental Health, evaluated prior studies that used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate how areas of the brain interact in persons with internet addiction.

They discovered that the impacts were seen throughout many neural networks in young people’s brains, as well as increased activity in areas of the brain while individuals were resting.

At the same time, there was a general decline in functional connectivity in areas of the brain engaged in active thinking, which is the executive control network responsible for memory and decision-making.

The research found that these changes resulted in addictive behaviours and tendencies in adolescents, as well as behavioural changes linked to mental health, development, intellectual ability and physical coordination.

The researchers reviewed 12 previous studies involving 237 (10- to 19)-year-olds with a formal diagnosis of internet addiction between 2013 and 2023.

Almost half of British teenagers have said they feel addicted to social media, according to a survey this year.

Max Chang, the study’s lead author and an MSc student at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (GOS ICH), said: “Adolescence is a crucial developmental stage during which people go through significant changes in their biology, cognition and personalities.

“As a result, the brain is more prone to internet addiction-related desires during this time, such as obsessive internet usage, cravings for mouse or keyboard use, and media consumption.

“Our study’s findings indicate that this might result in potentially harmful behavioural and developmental alterations that may have an influence on teenagers’ lives. For example, they may struggle to maintain connections and social activities, lie about their internet usage, and have erratic food and sleep patterns.”

Chang also stated that he believed the findings would reveal “how internet addiction alters the connection between the brain networks in adolescence,” allowing early indicators of internet addiction to be successfully addressed.

Supporing young people in climate policy-making is essential, Rana

By Staff Reporter

Islamabad : Rana Mashood, Chairperson of the Prime Minister’s Youth Program, delivered keynote remarks, emphasizing, “Supporting young people and including them in policy-making to combat climate change is not just important; it is essential. Their innovative ideas and unique perspectives are crucial in developing effective and inclusive climate policies that will shape a sustainable future.”

Empowering Young People to Shape Inclusive Climate Policies Through Policy Research Challenge,
Under the umbrella of Generation Unlimited, the Youth Policy Lab (YPL) platform has emerged, bringing together UN agencies—UNICEF, UNFPA, UNDP—and the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) in a synergistic collaboration with the School of Leadership Foundation (SoLF). This coalition introduced the Policy Research Challenge (PRC) in 2023, marking a significant stride in involving young people at the policy level. Through the PRC, the YPL gives young people a platform to have their voices heard in policy decisions, ensuring their unique needs are considered during important developmental stages.

The Policy Research Challenge was meticulously crafted to empower young individuals to critically evaluate and contribute to inclusive climate change policies. This initiative welcomed the perspectives of young people in policy formulation around the domain of Climate Adaptation, honing their research capabilities and encouraging active community involvement. This initiative has enabled young individuals to contribute significantly to shaping a more equitable, resilient, and promising future for society.
The PRC 2023-24 not only scrutinizes climate change mitigation policies but also advocates for inclusivity by identifying gaps, optimizing institutional arrangements, bolstering capacities, and mobilizing support from diverse stakeholders, including the private sector.

To mark the culmination of the Policy Research Challenge, a pivotal roundtable was conducted to stir the dialogue among policymakers from various ministries, private sector stakeholders and young researchers. The event also aimed to bridge the divide between research and policy formulation, and advocating for the inclusion of young people in research and policy recommendations. The young researchers employed a transdisciplinary approach to climate adaptation, exploring issues related to water, education, health, smog, agriculture, and community resilience across districts including Lahore, Johi, Skardu, Swat, Lasbela, Hub, Bahawalpur, and Karachi. This approach highlights the significance of climate adaptation for human capital development in Pakistan.

Representatives from UNICEF, UNDP, and UNFPA attended the event, underscoring the strategic importance of youth empowerment and evidence-based policymaking in achieving sustainable development goals.

Dr. Rubina Ali, Assistant Representative of UNFPA, remarked, “Combating climate change requires innovative and community-based solutions. It requires a new perspective, and who better to offer these solutions than young people who have only known a world grappling with its consequences.”

Inoussa Kabore. Deputy Representative (Programmes) UNICEF Pakistan, highlighted how these researchers have taken a transdisciplinary approach to the topic of climate adaptation and have explored issues faced by them and their communities with regards to water, education, health, smog, agriculture, and community resilience.
A highlight of the roundtable was the Policy Interface Matchup, where adolescent and youth researchers engaged directly with ministry representatives, facilitating a constructive dialogue to align adolescents and youth-driven research with governmental policies, ensuring inclusivity, responsiveness, and efficacy in meeting the needs of Pakistan’s diverse communities.

Professor Dr. Muhammad Mukhtaar, VC National Skills University, concluded the event with remarks highlighting, “The active involvement of young researchers in the Policy Research Challenge has demonstrated their immense potential to drive meaningful change. By aligning their innovative research with governmental policies, we ensure that the voices of the youth are not only heard but also integrated into our national strategies, paving the way for a more inclusive and resilient future.”

The Policy Research Challenge stands as a testament to the transformative power of adolescents and youth in shaping a sustainable world, with their contributions poised to impact future policymaking. Moving forward, these young researchers will be working with the government to provide input on policy matters to inspire positive change, integrating young people’s perspectives into national policies to build a more equitable and resilient future.

As the ECB lowers rates and speculators anticipate a rate hike in September, oil prices rise for a second day.

KEY POINTS ~ Following a sell-off brought on by OPEC+’s agreement to increase output later this year, the oil market is recovering.
~ The last two sessions could be a sign that the oil market is bottoming out, according to TD Securities senior commodity strategist Ryan McKay.
~ The Fed is expected to lower rates later this year, as predicted by traders, which would increase the demand for oil. The ECB dropped rates.

Thursday saw a 2% increase in crude oil futures for a second day in a row as traders gambled that the Federal Reserve will lower interest rates in September, following the European Central Bank’s five-year trend of rate cuts. Following a losing run this week due to OPEC+’s agreement to boost production later this year, oil prices finished more than 1% higher on Wednesday. The stronger-than-expected private payroll data on Wednesday raised expectations that the Fed will lower interest rates. There is currently a 70% probability, according to Fed futures trading, that the central bank will lower rates in September. The prospect of higher economic growth and increased demand for oil is enhanced by lower interest rates.Tamas Varga, an analyst at oil dealer PVM, tweeted on Thursday that “the May private payroll data yesterday also suggested a slowing labour market, much to the delight of the Federal Reserve.” “US equity markets reached all-time highs, and oil followed suit with unwavering enticement.”

Gaza truce is receiving “positive signs” from Hamas, according to an AFP report.

CAIRO: The state-affiliated Al-Qahera News said on Thursday that Egypt has received positive indications from Hamas regarding a possible ceasefire in Gaza and a hostage-prisoner exchange with Israel, citing a high-ranking source.

Cairo has been involved in months of discussions for a truce intended to end the Israel-Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip, among other mediators Doha and Washington.

Al-Qahera cited the source as stating, “Hamas leaders have informed us that they are studying the truce proposal seriously and positively.”

The anonymous source stated that it was anticipated that Hamas will react to the plan in the upcoming days.

The source also stated that Egypt has “received positive signs from the Palestinian movement signalling its aspiration for a ceasefire” after inviting Hamas officials to meetings in Cairo.

The remarks were made the day after Egypt’s top intelligence officer, Abbas Kamel, and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani met with Hamas delegates in Doha.

Mediation efforts have not succeeded in ending the war, with the exception of a seven-day ceasefire in November, during which over 100 hostages were freed in return for 240 Palestinian inmates detained in Israeli jails.

Al Jazeera’s investigation of US weaponry components used in the Israeli raid on the Gaza school

Parts that a US manufacturer recovered from an Israeli strike on Thursday that resulted in the deaths of forty Palestinians.
The remains of the weapons that killed at least 40 Palestinians were found in the debris of the United Nations-run al-Sardi school in the heart of Gaza’s Nuseirat refugee camp, among children hurt in an Israeli attack on a school.

The displaced individuals taking refuge at the school were not warned in advance of the Israeli strike that occurred in the wee hours of Thursday. Along with nine ladies and at least seventy-four additional persons wounded, there were fourteen children slain. Based on a study of the remnants left behind by Al Jazeera, the weapons used in the attack were manufactured in the United States.

Made by Honeywell, an American firm that specialises in the design and supply of sensors and guidance technologies that are employed in a range of military weapons, the inertial measurement unit from the missile helped with accurate targeting. One of the shards recovered in Nuseirat had the manufacturer and category number HG1930BA06, which led Al Jazeera’s Sanad verification team to conclude that it belonged to Honeywell. HG1930 designates the particular sensor that the business produces.

The identical section was discovered in 2014 following an Israeli airstrike of a Palestinian house in Shujayea, Gaza. The identical manufacturer part number is etched on the two components from the 2014 blast and the most recent one.

In addition, we see additional figures such as the MFR, HG 1930, and BA 06. “This is the manufacturer part number that gives more precise information about the missile component,” independent military and political expert Elijah Magnier told Al Jazeera. “Looking at the manufacturer identification, you can see that Honeywell is connected to the aerospace and defence industry in the United States that uses this format.”

Dietary inflammation is favourably correlated with a heart failure marker.

A study that was published online found a favourable link between inflammation caused by food and a biomarker for heart failure.
Teng-Chi Ma, from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University in China, and colleagues examined the relationship between diet-induced inflammation (measured by the Dietary Inflammatory Index [DII]) and heart failure (measured by N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide [NT-proBNP]) using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (1999 to 2004; 10,766 individuals).
Researchers discovered that after controlling for demographic characteristics (8.57 pg/mL) and other variables related to health (5.54 pg/mL), a unit increase in the DII was substantially correlated with an increase in NT-proBNP levels in persons without heart failure.

There was a tendency for NT-proBNP levels in the second and third DII quartiles to be higher than in the lowest quartile (717.06 pg/mL and 855.49 pg/mL, respectively) among people with a history of heart failure. Additionally, there were noteworthy interactions based on gender (men: β = 17.82; women: β = 7.43), age (younger than 50 years: β = 3.63; 50 to 75 years: β = 18.4; 75 years and older: β = 56.09), hypertension (β = 25.73), and diabetes (β = 38.94).

“This study identified a positive correlation between the DII and NT-proBNP levels, suggesting a robust link between pro-inflammatory diets and increased heart failure biomarkers, with implications for dietary modifications in cardiovascular risk management,” the scientists write.

Xylitol, a sugar replacement, is associated with a higher risk of heart attack and stroke.

The findings of a recent study cast doubt on the widespread perception of sugar alcohols like erythritol and xylitol as natural, healthful substitutes for sugar.

Sugar alcohols, like xylitol, are used to replace sugar in meals like baked goods.
A research published on Thursday in the European Heart Journal found that xylitol, a popular sugar alternative used by diabetics and people trying to lose weight, is linked to an elevated risk of cardiovascular events including heart attacks and strokes.

THE FACTS

~ Numerous investigations were been out by researchers. In one, they examined plasma samples that had been kept from almost 3,000 individuals who had fasted during a previous trial. During the course of the three years that these participants were monitored, a number of them experienced cardiovascular events, including heart attacks and strokes. Researchers discovered in the current study that people who had experienced a cardiovascular episode had elevated xylitol levels in their blood. ~ Using human whole blood and platelets, researchers investigated the impact of xylitol on clotting and discovered that xylitol induced blood platelets to coagulate. The researchers next injured the carotid arteries of mouse models to evaluate how quickly blood clots in the presence of xylitol. They discovered that xylitol increased the rate of clot formation at the locations of arterial damage. Heart attacks, strokes, and even death can result from blood clots that travel to the arteries or veins in the body’s organs, such as the heart. ~ In a further study, blood was drawn from ten healthy volunteers both before and 30 minutes after they drank a beverage sweetened with xylitol to examine the subjects’ vulnerability to blood clotting. A drink sweetened with glucose or sugar was delivered to 10 more individuals. Researchers discovered that the xylitol beverage drinkers’ blood’s capacity to clot increased significantly as soon as they consumed it. There was no observed alteration in the individuals’ capacity to coagulate blood after consuming the glucose. Cleveland Clinic cardiologist Stanley Hazen stated, “I think we have to figure out whether or not this is something that is a common behaviour of all the sugar alcohols versus just a subset.” As of right now, it seems to be everything, but further research is necessary, and others must. ~ Although these studies indicate an increased risk of cardiovascular events associated with xylitol, the researchers emphasised that they do not demonstrate that xylitol causes cardiovascular events.

Smith, are you still over the legendary Oscar slap incident?

image 22

In a sequence from Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Will Smith’s character Mike Lowrey was repeatedly smacked by Marcus Burnett, played by Martin Lawrence, in a possible subliminal reference to his notorious Oscars slap incident. For those who don’t know, on March 27, 2022, during the 94th Academy Awards, Will Smith made his way onto the stage and gave Chris Rock a face-slap in front of a global audience.

In the action sequence, Lowrey is about to have a panic attack when Burnett, his partner in the detective agency, slaps him repeatedly to stop him. Despite being intended as lighthearted entertainment throughout the film, it elicited a range of responses from viewers and reviewers, with several individuals connecting it to the Oscars event.

One clear example is Variety reviewer Own Gleiberman’s assessment, in which he called the scenario “a kind of pop exorcism” and called it a “direct reference” to the Oscars event. He said, “It’s ‘punishing’ Smith, making cruel fun of his transgression, and just maybe, in the process, allowing him to crawl out from under the image of it.” Will Smith called his actions that day “unacceptable” and issued an apology for the Oscars incident.

Refusing to participate in the investigation into the ‘1971 tweet’ issue, Imran Khan.

image 21

Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreeke-e-Insaf (PTI) and a former prime minister, once again turned down the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) request to assist with the probe into a contentious tweet. The FIA team, which included a second director and a sub-inspector, showed up at Adiala Jail to question Khan about the controversial matter. According to those with knowledge of the situation, Khan stipulated that his involvement in the inquiry would only take place if his legal representation was present.

Even when the FIA team visited, Khan would not answer their inquiries without his solicitors present.Notably, in relation to this probe, questions have previously been asked of Umar Ayub, Gauhar Khan, and Raoof Hassan. The investigation’s primary goals are still to identify the person(s) who released the contentious video from Khan’s X account, the reasons behind it, and the events that led to the former prime minister’s X account being closed.

THE TWEET

A contentious video that was published from Imran Khan’s account and linked the present political climate to the disastrous episode of 1971 had already prompted the FIA to launch an inquiry.

The party’s mandate was purportedly stolen by the present leadership, according to the video. The movie allegedly attempted to place the responsibility for Pakistan’s 1971 split on General Yahya Khan by claiming grave wrongdoing by the Pakistani military during the war. Images of contemporary military and civilian figures were also shown in the controversial film, suggesting that they were involved in undermining the PTI’s mandate in the most recent general elections.

T20 World Cup: Pakistan is let down when the US pulls off a thrilling victory in the final over.

image 20

Following a fantastic over, Pakistan crumbled as the United States prevailed in their thrilling final over T20 World Cup encounter in Dallas on Thursday.

After their super over, the US set a target of 19 runs, but the Green Shirts could only muster 13. After the host team tied the score on the final ball of the 20th over, the teams advanced to the super over. Prior to this, the US started carefully against the Green Team because Pakistan was discouraged by the home team’s early lead. As Steven Taylor was removed by Naseem Shah with the opening ball of his second over, Andries Gous’s following delivery went to the covers for four as his edge failed to reach Iftikhar Ahmed in slips.

The power play concluded at 44 with the loss of one wicket after Gous hit another boundary off Naseem. Shadab Khan was introduced by Babar Azam as Pakistan continued to hunt for their second wicket, but Gous and Monank Patel kept their side’s scoreboard ticking over easily.

Pakistan was earlier restricted to a score of 159-7 with the co-hosts hoping for an unexpected victory. In their first Group A match, the US defeated another non-Test nation Canada by chasing a target of 195, but now they faced a far better bowling assault. Still, after winning the toss, the US could be happy of their fielding performance against Pakistan, as they limited the 2009 T20 World Cup winners to 26-3.

Nosthush Kenjige, the first bowler, claimed 3-30 from his full four overs, including two wickets in two deliveries, while left-arm pacer Saurabh Netravalkar grabbed a meagre 2-18.Before captain Babar (44) and Shadab (40) combined for a partnership of 72, Pakistan was in terrible shape at 26-3 after five overs. Shadab and Azam Khan were sent out by Kenjige in consecutive deliveries.

Pakistan, which finished second to England in the last T20 World Cup in Australia two years prior, was once again struggling at 98-5 until the final man, Shaheen Shah Afridi, scored an undefeated 23 to raise the total. Prior to Usman Khan’s spectacular one-handed catch off Kenjige, which saw Pakistan down 14-2, Mohammad Rizwan was well taken at slip by Steven Taylor off Netravalkar.

Pakistan’s Political Paralysis: Pakistan’s Road to Default.

Pakistan’s political landscape has been marred by an intense power struggle between the military establishment and the opposition PTI party, led by the charismatic Imran Khan. This protracted conflict, often termed a “cold war,” has cast a dark shadow over the country’s stability and economic prospects.

The military’s involvement in Pakistan’s political affairs is nothing new, but the current standoff with PTI has reached unprecedented levels. Khan, who was ousted in a parliamentary vote of no-confidence last year, has consistently accused the military of orchestrating his removal in collusion with the incumbent government. The former cricketer-turned-politician has rallied his supporters, staging massive rallies across the country, demanding early elections.

On the other hand, the military establishment, which has historically played a pivotal role in Pakistan’s politics, has denied any involvement in Khan’s ouster. They have portrayed his narrative as a threat to the country’s stability and have cracked down on his party’s activities.

Caught in the crossfire of this political tug-of-war are the people of Pakistan, who are bearing the brunt of an escalating economic crisis. The country’s foreign exchange reserves have dwindled to alarmingly low levels, and the Pakistani rupee has plunged to historic lows against the US dollar. Inflation has soared, making basic necessities increasingly unaffordable for the average citizen.

As the tensions between the establishment and PTI intensify, the prospects of much-needed economic reforms and stabilization measures seem bleak. Investors are wary, and the country’s credit rating has taken a hit, making it increasingly difficult to secure international financial assistance.

Meanwhile, in neighboring India, the recent general elections have once again reaffirmed the popularity and mandate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Despite facing criticism from opposition parties and human rights groups, Modi’s brand of Hindu nationalism and his government’s economic policies have resonated with a significant portion of the electorate.

The contrast between the two nuclear-armed neighbors could not be starker. While India continues its march towards economic progress and global influence, Pakistan appears to be spiraling into a vortex of political instability and economic turmoil.

Unless the PTI and the military establishment find a way to resolve their differences and prioritize the nation’s interests over personal and institutional agendas, Pakistan’s economic woes are likely to deepen. The risk of a default looms large, which could have severe consequences for the country’s fragile democracy and the well-being of its people.

The international community, particularly Pakistan’s allies and financial institutions, must take note of this precarious situation and exert pressure on all stakeholders to find a peaceful and democratic resolution. The stakes are too high for Pakistan to descend into chaos, as the repercussions could reverberate far beyond its borders.

BJP’S STRATEGIC DEFEAT AND NITISH KUMAR’S PIVOTAL ROLE IN FORMING GOVERNMENT IN INDIA

The 2024 elections, which lasted for six weeks, have ended with the results now announced. In India, a majority of 272 seats is required to form a government. According to the Election Commission of India, the BJP won 240 seats, lower than their 2019 election tally of 303. The Congress won 99 seats in the 2024 election, a significant contribution. Although the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the elections, they reduced their majority. This is a surprising and unacceptable outcome for Modi’s government, which was confident of winning with a majority due to their policies and Hindu nationalist polarization.

The BJP and its allies faced a surprise in the current election result. Despite using all tactics to secure majority votes, the party suffered a paradigm shift in areas like Uttar Pradesh (UP), where they won only 37 seats compared to 62 in 2019. Before the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Janata Party (BJP) campaigned with the slogan “Ab Ki Baar 400 Par” (This time, over 400). However, this slogan proved wrong after the election results were announced.

India’s population consists of 55% Hindus, 27% Muslims, and 18% Christians. The BJP strategized to win Christian votes by using the conspiracy theory of “Love Jihad,” which claims Muslim men marry Hindus and Christian women to convert them to Islam. This theory originated in Kerala and was used to collect votes from Christians and Hindus. However, the BJP suffered a significant loss in Maharashtra, winning only nine seats.

Despite setbacks, the BJP still holds strong coastal seats like Mangalore, where they have maintained their ground. Apoorvanand noted, “The BJP base is eroded but has not completely lost influence.” The question now is whether the BJP will form the government again. The party, once the strongest in India, now relies on its allies to regain power. If any ally leaves, the political landscape will change.

Nitish Kumar’s party is leading in 15 seats, NDA in 13, and India in 9. Speculations suggest Nitish Kumar may play a “kingmaker” role, becoming a decisive factor in forming the government. He has been offered the Deputy Prime Minister’s post by the INDIA bloc. Nitish Kumar’s role in the Indian election is now akin to “Give me an offer I can’t refuse.” Both BJP and Congress are in touch with Nitish Kumar to form their government in India.

The 2024 election may have delivered a setback to the BJP but they have also presented an opportunity for Indian politics to evolve, adapt and become more inclusive. As BJP’s reduced majority is wake up call for Indian politics , a reminder that no party can take dominance for granted and the voice of all citizens must be heard.

“Chains on Freedom of Expression in Pakistan”

Due to strict measures in the Defamation Bill 2024, even accurate news reporting will face problems, and anyone openly criticizing government actions may also be caught in its grip. In a democratic country, there is a need for balanced laws regarding freedom of expression, but imposing restrictions on expression is not the right step.

The Punjab Defamation Bill 2024 will apply to print, electronic, and social media, and lawsuits can be filed against false and baseless news. The bill will also apply to fake news spread through YouTube and social media. Actions will be taken against news spread to damage personal lives and public personalities.
Tribunals will be established for defamation cases, which will be required to make a decision within six months. Under the Defamation Bill 2024, approved by the provincial assembly, a fine of 3 million rupees will be imposed for false news or character assassination on TV channels, newspapers, and platforms like Facebook, TikTok, X, YouTube, and Instagram.
I urge all journalists to condemn such laws which restricts freedom of expression. It is fundamental right in a Democrat country for the freedom of media. I urge the government not to imposed ban on social media as it is a new revolution in modern world.

My Journey to Gallows

If only you’d walk with me a little further,
For I am deserted, walk with me a little further.
Who, here offers company on the journey of life?
The journey is long, walk with me a little further.
Here, even shadows avoid their own reflections.
This is a perilous path, walk with me a little further.
I don’t know which path, I’ve set upon.
I’m unaware, walk with me a little further.
The lamps have extinguished, the sun hasn’t risen.
The morning candle is snuffed, walk with me a little further.
When I see you, the path becomes clear,
You are my sight, walk with me a little further.
I am Jafri, I must go to the gallows,
I am heading there, walk with me a little further.

Powder keg in Middle East: Israel attempt to ignite wider war

By Iqra

Another looming crisis in the Middle East exacerbated by Israeli actions, poses a significant threat to regional stability and peace. The Iran-Israel relationship has not always been as fraught as today, Iran was one of the first countries in the region to recognise Israel after its formation in 1948. Israel’s airstrike on April 1, 2024, targeted Iran’s consulate in Syria, resulting in casualties including two Iranian generals and five other military officers. After two weeks Iran has launched a massive aerial attack on Israel in retaliation for the April 1, Israeli strike. It is the first time Iran has attacked Israel directly. Main factors that have contributed to the escalation of bilateral tensions, Iran support and funding to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, which are openly hostile towards Israel and the United States.

The Iranian government has indicated that it considers the matter resolved, but it remains uncertain how Israel will respond or what the future holds. Western nations, including Israel’s ally, the USA, have cautioned Israel against escalating into open warfare with Iran. A direct conflict could quickly involve Gulf states, given their geographical location and the presence of U.S. military bases committed to defending Israel. The international community is pressing Israel to avoid further retaliation, as any attack on key Iranian sites could destabilize the entire region.

The Middle East plays a critical role in global energy supply, especially oil. Any increase in tensions could disrupt oil production and transportation, affecting global oil prices. The Strait of Hormuz, a crucial passageway located between Oman and Iran, handles about one-fifth of the world’s oil supply, underscoring the potential global impact of regional disturbances.

The Israeli military, which is already engaged in conflict, seems to have broader regional aspirations that could potentially trigger a larger conflict, stretching from the Middle East to a possible World War. The international community has criticized both Iran and Israel for their actions. Iran’s ally states such as China, and Russia, which maintain strategic ties, have expressed serious concerns about the escalating situation and have condemned Israel’s aggressive behavior.

If Israel chooses to retaliate militarily against Iran’s airstrike on April 13, it could further heighten tensions not only in the region but globally. The ongoing conflicts in Russia, Ukraine, and Palestine, coupled with this new development, could potentially escalate into a global conflict. The international community urged to impose military and economic sanctions on Israel to curb its aggressive policies and to encourage influential nations to play a constructive role in fostering regional peace and stability.

Unravelling the Climate Puzzle: The Arabian Peninsula’s Struggle with Extreme Weather and Climate Change

Aimen Nisar

The Arabian Peninsula is situated on the intersection of Africa and Asia. It is a vast diversified region including the countries like United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain and Yemen. The region is blessed with the natural resources, beautiful landscapes, cultural and historical significance but is intricated with severe climate change vulnerabilities, leaving the region into havoc.

In recent years, Arabian Peninsula is struggling with extreme weather conditions due to the overreaching climate change. The intense heatwaves are promoting the scorching weather, the torrential dropouts triggering floods leaving the immediate risk to economy, health, infrastructure and other related vulnerabilities. The recent example to climate change vulnerabilities are the flash flood happened in UAE and Oman on April 17, 2024 where due to torrential weather, almost 18 people killed in Oman and whole UAE drown into water and shutdown for two days. According to the report, around 230mm rain received by Oman and 127mm rain by UAE in single day and on average it receives 100mm rainfall a year, which has broken the 75 years of rainfall record.

The initial speculation was referring the torrential weather with the cloud seeding technique used by UAE on 17th of April to help addressing the water shortage. Notably UAE is using this technique since 1990.The speculation was later denied by the UAE’s National Centre of Metrology (NCM) and the scientist, referring the extreme weather condition with the climate change. According to a professor in climate extreme at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Dim Cuomo:

The recent thunderstorm witnessed in UAE demonstrate a notable surge in rainfall particularly accentuated by warming trends. The phenomenon occurs due to the intensification of conviction, the powerful updraft within thunderstorm, in a warmer environment.

Hence the global warming increases the processes of evaporation, leads to great moisture content, which has fuelled up the precipitation event. Overall global warming is altering the climatic conditions promoting environmental hazards and non-traditional security issue, which is affecting every part of the world and has drowned the desert like Arabian Peninsula.

Benjamin Netanyahu Must Resign

Dr. Maqsood Jafri

Today the Editor of National Newsletter has posted on his Facebook page about the demanded resign of the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu by the Israelis. Being a humanitarian, I feel incumbent to briefly comment on the views of some people on this posted news. The hardliner Zionists have
commented that Benjamin Netanyahu is a great leader of Israel and he must not resign and complete the ethnic holy mission of the civilians of Gaza. According to them it is a sacred mission to eliminate all Muslims of Palestine and God has assigned this sacred duty to him. While there are the moderate Jews in Israel who are protesting against the inhumane policies of Benjamin Netanyahu and demanding the end of war and asking for peaceful ways to get their hostages released and immediately stop genocide of the civilians of Gaza demanding the resignation of Benjamin Netanyahu.

On the other hand, the Muslims have rebuked the fascist policies of Benjamin Netanyahu and have condemned his nefarious and inhumane act of destroying Gaza and killing innocent Palestinians. They call him a war criminal and the Hitler of this era. They demand him to be punished as a war criminal. He has exploited the racial and religious sentiments of the people of Israel to infinity to gain political benefits. He is blackmailing the Jews and instilling in them hatred against the Palestinians to grind the axe. There are some Christians as well who have supported him but the majority of the Christians have strongly condemned and cursed him for his inhumane acts and genocide in Gaza and demanded his resignation and capital punishment for him. Recently an Irish Parliamentarian while addressing in the parliament strongly condemned the fascist policies of Benjamin Netanyahu. He abhorred the genocide of the civilians of Gaza. In his very outrageous speech he thrice announced:” Benjamin Netanyahu will straight go to Hell for his atrocious deeds.”

After reading the comments of the Jews, the Christians and the Muslims, I felt my human and moral duty to comment on this issue for the betterment of humanity and seeking the amicable solution of the dispute. As I oppose hate speech and hate writings, my attempt is absolutely based on the sincere quest of peace and in the large interest of the Jews and the Muslims. They are humans and we must deal with them as humans.
Without any prejudice, I suggest that Israel must implement UN Resolution of Two State Formula and honor OSLO pact. The International Court of Justice has also asked Benjamin Netanyahu to immediately end war in Gaza and stop the genocide of the Palestinians.

This man has put UN Resolution, OSLO Pact and the judgement of International Court into dust bin and is indiscriminately shedding the blood of the civilians of Gaza. A great poet of the sub- continent Mirza Ghalib had said that some persons do not turn into dust after death, rather they sprout like red tulips and roses. Indirectly, he was insinuating that the martyrs do not die and their blood leaves impeccable impact and the future impetus of the sacrifices dazzles the eyes of history. The blood shed of the innocent civilians of Gaza will not go waste. Blood is not water, which is colorless and smell-less.

Blood is blood. It has color and smell. I salute those Jews who are protesting against the atrocities of Israeli fascist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for committing unprecedented atrocities on the innocent civilians of Gaza. They say that Benjamin Netanyahu is a fascist and he has put the lives of all the Jews at stake in the whole world. He is a Zionist. He is a murderer. The day is not far, when the Palestinians will get power and chance and muster their military strength to strike back with all might. If it happens, it will be again a shocking point for all the lovers of peace and humanity, when the Jews will be attacked as today the Muslims are being attacked. No lover of humanity would ever appreciate or accept bloodbath of any nation. A poet says that the wounds are healed but they leave scars.

The scars remind the wounds. Will the coming generations of the Palestinians ever forget what the present fascist regime of Benjamin Netanyahu is doing with them. He is on the wrong side of history. Nations can never be obliterated. Recently in a video, a Muslim is shown burying his three sons, who were killed by Israeli bombshell In Gaza. While addressing their dead bodies he says: “ When you meet the Holy Prophet, do complaint against the Muslims that they did not come to save us from the stranglehold of the aggressors.” Is this scene not heartbreaking? Are theses people not humans? The Zionists think that they will expand their regime to all Muslim countries by their expansionist designs.

The Manifesto of Greater Israel, given by Theodore Herzl is known as “ An Island named Zion: The Political Theory of Herzl”. The Zionists dream to conquer all Muslim countries. They think it as their religious obligation. They have already economically and politically controlled the Western countries. They crucified Jesus Christ. The Muslims did not crucify Jesus, as they did not exist at the time of Jesus. As a humanist, I strongly appeal to the wiser sections of Israel to throw away all religious maniacs and political swindlers out of the field of politics through democratic means and promote moderate politicians to establish peace in the Middle East. Better this tug of war be immediately stopped and seek peaceful solution and mutual harmony. The rulers of some countries who are supporting the fascist regime of Benjamin Netanyahu are shortsighted and prejudiced. They are inviting Third World War.

If the world wants peace, then Israel must adhere to international law and Benjamin Netanyahu must resign. He must be jailed, punished and let moderate and wise Jews replace him. Better the Israelis come out from the fetters of the Zionists and bank on moderate Jews. In it lies the safety of the parties concerned.
Some American senators have said that any speech or writing or plea against Israel should be made unlawful as it comes under hate speech/ writing. I am astonished on such statements by responsible people. Who is against Israel? No one. There is not a single Muslim who says finish Israel or obliterate Israel. The Muslims all over the world including Palestinians have accepted the UN resolution of Two State Fomula. Though, it is a hard nut to crack for them and a bitter pill to swallow.

For centuries it is called “ Palestine; not Israel. For the sake of peace, the Palestinians accepted the state of the Jewish immigrants and aligns. Their sacrifices are not appreciated by such senators who have closed their eyes on the incessant persecution of the civilians of Gaza. The image of America as a country that stands for democracy, humanity and justice must be maintained. Are such senators going to tarnish the image of America further? Instead of supporting, suggesting and promoting the acts of genocide by the fascist regime of Benjamin Netanyahu, they should demand his resignation and support a moderate, humanitarian and democratic government.

The UN Charter and American Constitution permit freedom of expression, speech and writing. In my opinion, no one should speak or write against any religion, country or nation and we must respect the entity and flag of all nations. But we have all rights to criticize the fascist regimes and support democracy, peace, justice and humanity. When the protesters are peacefully rallying worldwide against the fascist regime of Benjamin Netanyahu, they chant the following slogans:” End War”, “ Stop Genocide”.

“ Free Palestine”. Are these slogans against Israel or against the fascist regime of Benjamin Netanyahu? Are these slogans against UN resolutions? Are these slogans against humanity, democracy or human rights? Then why theses peaceful processions and protests are being attacked by the police? Even in Israel, the moderate and democratic minded Jews have protested on roads against the inhumane policies of their Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and were thrashed out by the fascist regime. Are these Israelis against their own motherland Israel? Not at all. I suggest the American senators who are thinking to make such laws which will throttle and strangle human rights and human liberties, these lawmakers should make laws to save humanity.

Importance of business registration for SMEs in Pakistan

SME development is a significant focus area for Pakistan’s government and various organizations, and efforts to streamline business registration processes and promote entrepreneurship are ongoing.

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) is responsible for regulating the corporate sector and overseeing business registrations in the country. They regularly release reports and data on business registrations, including those for SMEs. These reports often include details on the number of new businesses registered, their sectors, geographical distribution, and other relevant information.Similarly, organizations like the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) also collect data and conduct surveys related to SMEs, which include insights into business registrations.

Choosing the right legal structure for a business is a crucial decision that can significantly impact its operations, liability, taxation, and overall success. In Pakistan, entrepreneurs and business owners have several options, including sole proprietorships, partnerships, limited liability partnerships, private limited companies (include single member companies), and public limited companies. Each legal structure comes with its own set of advantages, disadvantages, and legal requirements. To make an informed decision, it is important to consider various factors that align with the specific needs and goals of the business. The key factors that should be considered when choosing a legal structure for a business in Pakistan, ensuring the selection best suits the nature, scale, and future aspirations of the business. The key factors include liability protection, ownership and control, cost and complexity, Future plans, credibility and perception, taxation, succession and continuity planning and compliance requirements. By evaluating these factors, entrepreneurs can make a well-informed decision and establish a solid legal foundation for their business endeavours in Pakistan.

SECP is where companies are registered in Pakistan, where one must select a unique name, ensuring it complies with section 10 of the Companies Act (2017). Once decided, create an online account with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) to check name availability. Opt for ‘Fast Track Registration Services (FTRS)’ for same-day registration, providing necessary information and depositing the registration fee through designated banks or online. If the online system is unavailable, submit an application with three proposed names at the registrar’s office, with the offline process taking 3 to 5 days. Prepare required documents including Articles of Association, Memorandum of Association, CNIC copies (or passports for foreign nationals), and NOC if establishing a specialized business. For foreign company incorporation, provide directors’ details and certified documents. Additionally, register for a National Tax Number (NTN) at the Regional Tax Office of the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) by submitting a duly filled NTN form and relevant documents. After compiling and submitting documents to SECP, await approval, during which the National Institution of Facilitation Centre (NIFC) will generate a company seal. Once approved, you’ll receive a Certificate of Incorporation, enabling you to commence business in Pakistan. Ensure shareholders transfer funds to the company’s bank account. SECP’s online registration system streamlines the process, making it entirely digital.

Registering a company in Pakistan offers numerous benefits, providing legal recognition and protection for business owners. Firstly, formal registration establishes credibility and trustworthiness, enhancing the company’s reputation and facilitating access to financing and investment opportunities. Moreover, registered companies enjoy limited liability, safeguarding personal assets from business debts and liabilities. This legal structure promotes risk-taking and encourages entrepreneurship, fostering innovation and economic growth. Additionally, registered companies gain access to various government incentives, subsidies, and support programs aimed at promoting business development and growth. Furthermore, registration enables businesses to enter into contracts, engage in legal proceedings, and own property in their own right, enhancing operational flexibility and scalability.

Growth for Rural Advancement and Sustainable Progress (GRASP) is a project funded by the European Union and implemented by the International Trade Centre (ITC), and is working to improve the business environment for small and medium enterprises in Pakistan. The project is partnering with SMEDA to launch an awareness campaign to promote business registration of SMEs across the country, especially in Sindh and Balochistan provinces.

The Effect of Appropriate Packaging on Agriculture in Pakistan

In the agricultural industry, proper packaging is essential, especially in nations like Pakistan where agriculture makes up a sizeable portion of the national income. It aids in maintaining the freshness of agricultural products including grains, fruits, and vegetables. Effective packing techniques may increase the shelf life of perishable goods like fruits and vegetables in Pakistan, which lowers waste and guarantees better quality for customers. Additionally, it will shield agricultural goods from physical harm while being handled and transported, particularly in Pakistan where not all areas have a well established transportation system. This is particularly pertinent to a region such as Balochistan. An appealing package may make a big difference in a market as competitive as Pakistan, where many producers are fighting for the attention of consumers.

Currently small and medium enterprises, farmers, and microentrepreneurs are using cloth or jute bags for packaging their produce to transport it from farm to wholesale markets, and in some cases, to big buyers in Punjab and Sindh. The packaging not only is susceptible to damage but cannot protect the produce from heat, or external factors such as sun exposure. This decreases the quality and shelf life of products like tomatoes, Bananas, grapes, and fresh dates.

Cartons are an echo friendly, and more durable option for storing and transporting fresh produce. However, majority of the traders purchase them from factories or wholesalers in Punjab or Sindh, but this is not cost efficient.

The selling of grapes and things linked to grapes is Khair Mohammad’s main source of income. He manages a grape farm. The difficulties he had on his grape vineyard, particularly with obtaining packaging materials from Karachi, had an impact on the output of his company. Since he needed 70,000 cartons and the market price was PKR 180 per carton, he would need to spend PKR 12,600,000. His profit margins were being severely damaged by this expense.
Muhammad received a PKR 30 million matching grant from the Growth for Rural Advancement and Sustainable Progress (GRASP) project, which is run by the International Trade Centre and funded by the European Union. He used the grant to start a carton-specializing packaging material factory.

Through the provision and sale of packaging material, Khair Mohammad’s creative move serves not only his own business requirements but also the needs of other farmers in Balochistan, therefore promoting the region’s overall economic growth.
The carton plant now meets his need of 70,000 units per month by producing 1,310,400 cartons per month at a rate of 4,200 cartons per hour. He profits from the abundance, but so do the farmers in the area. He saves PKR 80 every carton by manufacturing them himself, for a savings of almost PKR 5,600,000.His endeavour to build a plant producing packaging materials not only reduces expenses and boosts output, but it also creates jobs and supports environmental sustainability.

Local businesspeople like Khair Mohammad are bringing about good change and advancing the agriculture industry in Pakistan towards more resilience, efficiency, and prosperity with projects like these. As we commemorate tales of inventiveness and enterprise, let us persist in endorsing and magnifying endeavours that open doors to equitable and sustainable advancement within Pakistan’s agricultural terrain.

Pakistan’s Wheat Crisis: Its Causes, Effects, and Remedies

Known as the “bread basket” of South Asia, Pakistan is presently dealing with a wheat crisis that will have a big impact on social stability, food security, and the country’s economy. This article explores the origins of the issue, how it affects farmers and consumers, and possible remedies.
The Reasons Behind the Flood-Related Crisis Shortage: There was a wheat scarcity in the early months of 2023 as a result of the devastating floods that devastated wheat cultivation in 2022. Pakistan produces just 26.2 million tonnes of wheat in 2022, compared to the country’s yearly consumption of almost 30 million tonnes. Policies Regarding Imports: In July 2023, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) permitted the private sector to import wheat. Over 3.5 million tonnes of wheat were imported between September 2023 and March 2024 at lower worldwide prices. Consequently, the food storage agency of Pakistan had more than 4.3 million tonnes of extra wheat when farmers there started harvesting their crop in April 2024.
Effects on Farmers and Shoppers
The Predicament of Farmers: The government’s decision to not purchase wheat from tens of thousands of farmers in Punjab, the largest province in Pakistan, is being met with protests. Due to the overabundance of imported wheat, prices have dropped and farmers have suffered large financial losses.
Pakistan’s GDP is mostly derived from agriculture, and wheat is essential to this industry. Consumer Challenges: Although decreased costs should be the result of the excess wheat, this hasn’t happened. There are still long lines and shortages, and sad cases of individuals being crushed while attempting to obtain wheat have been reported. The issue has a direct impact on the cost and security of food for regular people.
Possible Remedies
Intervention of the Government: To avoid an excess of wheat, the government needs to aggressively control imports. For prices to remain stable and farmers’ livelihoods to be safeguarded, fast choices and transparent policies are essential Investment in agriculture: Increasing agricultural technology, research, and infrastructure may increase wheat yields. It is imperative to make investments in post-harvest storage facilities, seed quality, and irrigation. Crop diversification: Promoting crops other than wheat can help lessen reliance on a single staple. Increasing the use of pulses and other grains can improve food security.
Policymakers, farmers, and consumers all need to pay immediate attention to the wheat issue in Pakistan. Pakistan may overcome this obstacle and guarantee a steady supply of food for its people by addressing the underlying reasons and putting into practice practical solutions.

Pakistan’s strategy to access the Chinese capital market is revealed by Finance Minister Aurangzeb.

SHENZHEN: With the launch of the Panda bond, Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has emphasised the nation’s ability to take advantage of economic prospects by joining the Chinese capital markets.

At the “Pak-China Business Forum” on Wednesday, he made the declaration.

Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, headed a group that travelled to China on Tuesday to attend the summit and talk about potential ways to get access to the country’s capital markets.

The Pakistani finance minister, emulating the Egyptian model, stated during his speech to the forum that there is a good chance of this project being implemented effectively.

He guaranteed that Pakistani officials are in continual communication with Chinese regulatory authorities to oversee the initiative’s preliminary phases, and he pledged that the plan’s implementation will commence in the next fiscal year.

He emphasised that, under Prime Minister Sharif’s direction, this action signifies a substantial change in their economic strategy.

Additionally, Aurangzeb underlined that the two main sectors of Pakistan’s economy that are growing are agriculture and information technology. He credited Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership in implementing structural economic improvements that led to the currency’s stability.

Aurangzeb also revealed a decline in inflation in May, underscoring the nation’s economic resiliency.

He stressed how boosting foreign direct investment (FDI) in the form of business-to-business investments will promote joint ventures and experience transfers between both nations and how the special economic zones (SEZs) will be a critical pillar in promoting export-led growth.A further highlight of the conference was the rise in foreign investments in Pakistan, which indicates that foreign investors are becoming more confident. Aurangzeb gave Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif credit for spearheading these economic gains and creating an atmosphere that is favourable to expansion and advancement.

Consider Every Day as World Environment Day: Expert Offers Serious Advice

Every year on June 5, the world observes World Environment Day to promote awareness of the need to solve environmental issues in order to ensure a sustainable future.Every year on June 5, we mark World Environment Day, which is a sobering reminder of our shared obligation to preserve and protect the environment. Since its establishment by the UN in the 1970s, World Environment Day has served as a global forum for bringing attention to and igniting action on important environmental challenges. Climate change is one of the biggest problems of our day; it is a global phenomena that endangers ecosystems, businesses, and societies. Although it is thought of as a natural phenomena, there have been notable shifts in global temperatures. The overwhelming body of scientific data suggests that human activity—specifically, the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation—has exacerbated these changes.

Every day, we produce carbon emissions via routine activities like using energy and driving automobiles, which have a major negative influence on the health of our planet and contribute to climate change. Overindulgence in carbon compounds exacerbates global warming, causing glaciers to melt, sea levels to rise, and extreme weather phenomena like droughts and floods. The extreme weather that is currently enveloping India is causing us to already notice these effects,” said Tanya Singhal, creator of SolarArise and Mynzo Carbon.

It is critical that we lower key pollutants’ concentrations and carbon footprints in order to lessen the effects of climate change.

Since you cannot eliminate what you cannot quantify, it is imperative that we comprehend the full magnitude of our carbon impact. People may lower their emissions by adopting thoughtful habits if they are aware. It’s not necessary to completely change one’s way of life for this. Instead, we can significantly lessen our impact on the environment by making small, consistent changes like using smart devices, reducing energy consumption, choosing public transportation or carpooling, adopting renewable energy sources, managing waste effectively, and supporting sustainable products, according to Ms. Singhal.

By doing these things, everyone of us helps to ensure a sustainable, healthy environment for everyone and protect the earth for future generations. Here, little is huge! And the only way we can make sustainability second nature and preserve the earth is if we consider every day to be World Environment Day,” she continued. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India is putting up billboards in cities all around the nation on World Environment Day 2024 with a clear message about being vegan, which scientists claim is the single most effective thing people can do to save the environment.

The meat, egg, and dairy industries destroy valuable forests to make room for the animals they exploit and slaughter as well as the crops they grow for food, all the while releasing greenhouse gases that exacerbate the climate crisis. As a result, our world is in peril, says Dr. Kiran Ahuja, Manager of Vegan Projects at PETA India.

Write a Comment
According to the UN, “one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global” is the raising of animals for food, and it accounts for nearly a fifth of greenhouse gas emissions caused by humans. According to PETA, the production of meat and dairy products, such as cheese and curd, is responsible for almost 60% of all greenhouse gas emissions linked to food.

At the movies: Godzilla Minus One revives the fear of monsters.

Netflix has Godzilla Minus One (PG13), a 125-minute film.
Four stars

The plot: Following World War II, a Japanese pilot named Koichi (Ryunosuke Kamiki) is left physically unscathed but psychologically scarred after an event on a secluded island involving a monster the locals refer to as Godzilla. When he returns, Tokyo has been destroyed by an air strike, and hunger is imminent. The thing he believed he left behind reappears to endanger everyone he loves, even as he makes an effort to move on from his past with fellow survivor Noriko (Minami Hamabe) and an orphaned infant.

After much anticipation, it is now available on Netflix.

This small Japanese movie, which came at a cost of US$12 million (S$16 million), had to make room for Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire (2024), a Hollywood production with ten times the budget.

Godzilla Minus One, the 2024 Academy Award winner for Best Visual Effects, adds what the American product does not: the monster’s horrible nature.

Japanese writer-director Takashi Yamazaki pulls terror from the title character’s ability to hide beneath the waters and strike out of nowhere, taking inspiration from Steven Spielberg’s Jaws (1975) and Jurassic Park (1993).

The monster, which was described as being the size of a Tyrannosaurus in the first chapter, gnaws on human flesh when on land. The feet and tail crush humans like bugs as it reaches skyscraper heights. The vivid, detailed computer-generated visuals of mayhem are a welcome change from Hollywood’s current fixation with gloomy combat scenes.

The creature isn’t given any kind of motivation in the narrative. Behind their eyes is primal aggression, not thinking. In contrast, the current American adaptations attempt to adapt the plot into a Monsterverse by Marvel, which results in films that are too long and heavy on exposition, lead-ins, and spin-offs.

Furthermore, the tale could not be more Japanese or simpler.

The humiliated Koichi stands in for a Japan after the war that is still reeling from its loss. But he transforms from a sad figure to a victorious one by selflessness, resiliency, and forming alliances with like-minded others. Japanese characters become heroes because they put forth more effort than anybody else, but American heroes ascend because they are gifted.

Godzilla represents nature; he is fierce and mysterious. In the political satirical Japanese film Shin Godzilla (2016), bureaucrats prioritised preserving their careers over rescuing lives amidst an approaching natural calamity.

The phrase “the monster is our problem, we will have to save ourselves” appears many times in Godzilla Minus One.

Hot take: This film manages to provide real emotion in addition to incredible action, as it pays tribute to the common Japanese people who band together to lift their nation out of difficult times.
