image 77

Pakistan Champions late Saturday night inflicted a mammoth 68-run defeat on Indian Champions in the 8th encounter of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2024 at Edgbaston Stadium, Birmingham.

This was third win for Younis Khan’s men and they are now top of the points table of the six-team competition. They defeated Australia and West Indies previously.

Earlier, Pakistan smashed 243/4 after being put into bat. The Men in Green were provided a blistering start by the opening pair of Sharjeel Khan and Kamran Akmal.

The duo hit 145 runs for the first wicket before Sharjeel departed in the 11th over.

Sharjeel made a 30-ball 72 powered by seven fours and five sixes. While Kamran continued the aggressive approach, scoring a 40-ball 77 before being bowled by Pawan Negi in the 14th over.

Sohaib Maqsood rubbed his shoulders in the middle with a powerful 26-ball 51. He hit five sixes and two fours.

Shahid Afridi went for a golden duck while Shoaib Malik remained not out on 18-ball 25.

India replied strongly at the start of the chase with Robin Uthappa scoring 12-ball 22. Sohail Khan removed him to bring the first wicket for Pakistan.

Ambati Rayadu and Suresh Raina paired up to trouble the Men in Green but Shoaib Malik had the better of Rayadu (39) to put India under pressure.

Malik kept the run rate in check as India could not accelerate. Wahab Riaz came to the attack and removed Irfan Pathan (15), Pawan Negi (1) in one over to put a further dent.

Raina played the lone battle before he was bowled by Sohail Tanvir in the 19th over. The left-hander made 52 off 40 balls.

India managed 175/9 in their 20 overs with Anureet Singh minimising the deficit with his 14-ball 20*.

Malik took three wickets for 38 while Wahab finished with figures of 3/22.

The video clicked over 15 million views on YouTube in less than 24 hours after a closing shot showed an owl in a cage seemingly pointing to Drake’s OVO logo.

But not everything was going against Drake, as Lil Wayne recently named him one of his top five all-time best rappers.

“My Top 5 rappers of all time are JAY-Z, Missy Elliott, Eminem, ummm… The Notorious B.I.G. — oh, and this is no specific order right here — and Drizzy.”

The Toronto rap star was from the start in the good books of Weezy. “I [saw] potential. When Drake’s music was brought to me from the homie Jas [Prince], it was about rap. I was like, ‘This dude sound different.'”

“Then one day I heard, ‘[singing voice].’ Like, ‘What the **** was that?’ I remember asking Mack [Maine], Who is that on the hook?’ He’s like, ‘That’s him too!.'” he told the I Am Athlete podcast

threatens to tax all dealers at any costs. FinMin Aurangzeb

image 75

Reiterating the government’s commitment to meeting an ambitious revenue target projected in the budget FY25, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, the minister for finance and revenue, on Saturday categorically stated that taxes would be imposed on all traders without exception and at all costs.

The rise in the tax target is made up of a 48% increase in direct taxes and a 35% hike in indirect taxes over revised estimates of the last fiscal year. Non-tax revenue, including petroleum levies, is seen increasing by 64%.

“We will definitely address the problems that the budget for the next fiscal year has brought for traders,” Aurangzeb said, addressing business leaders at the regional office of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) in Lahore.

Stressing that the budget should be viewed from a broader perspective, the finance minister said the economy was moving towards macroeconomic stability.

The government presented the national budget on June 12 with a challenging tax revenue target of Rs13 trillion for the year starting July 1, up about 40% from the current year, to bolster the case for a new bailout agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Amid calls to prevent further electricity price hikes, the finance minister emphasised the imperative to put the distribution companies (Discos) in order; otherwise, the power tariff would continue to increase as it has been lately.

Underscoring the significance of investment both from inside and outside the country, Aurangzeb highlighted the need for economic stability through comprehensive budgetary perspectives. “Foreign investors are as important for Pakistan as the local ones,” the finance minister added.

Advocating for broad reforms to guide the economy out of its current challenges, he called for the closure of redundant federal government departments. “We need to shut down the ministries that have been devolved to the provinces,” he said.

On the term “non-filer,” the finance czar said he simply did not understand this coinage. “This [Pakistan] is the only country where the term non-filer exists.”

Touching upon economic policy, Aurangzeb expressed his view on gradually reducing the policy rate to stimulate economic growth. “We should increase the tax-to-GDP ratio to 30% over the next three years,” he said adding,” In my opinion the policy rate should be reduced gradually.”

Calling attention to the “economic milestones” the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government recently achieved, Aurangzeb mentioned that foreign exchange reserves had exceeded $9 billion.

Necessitating plugging the rampant leaks in the system, Aurangzeb admitted that the public outcry against the hefty allowances enjoyed by bureaucrats and rulers was justified.

“The criticism that the government is not reducing the perks and privileges of the high-ups is justified,” he said.

In his concluding remarks, Aurangzeb underscored the importance of advancing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the IT sector to foster economic growth and stability in the country.

Following a court fight, Dua Lipa makes significant progress on her massive basement of her London house.

image 74

Dua Lipa has reportedly started work on her London home’s mega basement, after a three-year long legal battle.

It is pertinent to mention that the singer bought the property back in 2017 for £6.75 million when she was just 22 years old.

However, as per Mail Online, after the submission of proposal plans in December 2021 which included building of pool, steam room, shower, changing room, relaxation zone, cinema, studio waiting area and lobby, she ended up having a serious legal battle with conservationists and the local council, over her Grand Designs-style plans for a massive makeover of her home including a basement swimming pool – complete with a ‘chill-out area’

In regards to Dua’s other plans, she also wanted to demolish a rear extension and build a new one to create a family room with a green roof – which planners at the local council and conservationists opposed.

Furthermore, the source began at length by explaining to the outlet, “Her building team will have to keep the sounds of power tools to a whisper and all the equipment must be mounted with anti-vibration insulators. No one should be aware any work is taking place and Dua’s neighbors could kick up a stink if they are. Dua doesn’t want to cause any annoyance and she is looking forward to making her house a home.”

In order to start work immediately, The Levitating pop star picked up the North London pad and submitted plans for renovations, but the scheme has been going backwards and forwards with her local council ever since.

A source told The Sun last year, “Dua’s plans for her house are epic and after four years she has finally started looking for builders to start work on her music studio, pool, gym, cinema and chillout area. She has to adhere to some pretty strict agreements because of how much objection there was to her plans over the loss of green space.”

In regards to the construction of the house, the building has commenced with builders digging under the house and tearing out the internal walls

Tiger Woods and Justin Timberlake are starting businesses in Scotland.

image 73

Justin Timberlake has joined hands with Tiger Woods to open a pub in Scotland.

The news came Friday despite his recent fallout with the DWI arrest in Sag Harbor, New York in mid-June.

Timberlake, 43, and Woods, 48, will transform the famed New Picture House Cinema into a high-end T-Squared Social location, Billboard reported.

The publication added that the new venture will feature state-of-the-art sports simulators, duckpin bowling and darts while also preserving two original cinema screens to show respect for the venue’s deep history,

According to the real estate documents, the new bar will offer a ‘broader range of cinema, dining and entertainment.’

It is pertinent to mention that Woods, an 82-time PGA tour winner, also has had his own fair share of legal troubles, including a DUI arrest in 2017 for having ‘five different drugs’ in his system when police found him asleep at the wheel. He also pleaded guilty to reckless driving at the time.

As for Timberlake, he was arrested on charges of one count of driving while intoxicated and another on two traffic violations: failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to keep right.

However, he managed to resume his Forget Tomorrow world tour last month and also addressed the incident as ‘a tough week.’

“I know I’m hard to love sometimes, but you keep loving me right back,” he said.

Resignation from Omar Ayub’s position as secretary-general of the PTI is “not accepted.”

image 72

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Ayub Khan will continue to serve as the party’s secretary-general as his resignation has not been accepted on the directives of founding chairman Imran Khan, a statement issued by the former ruling party said on Saturday.

In a surprising development, top PTI leader Omar last week stepped down as the secretary-general of the party “to focus” on his role as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan.

However, his resignation was not approved as both the PTI’s core committee and parliamentary party opposed the step, asking him to withdraw his decision to step down from the party’s coveted post.

In an official statement released today, the party said that the opposition leader will continue as the PTI secretary general and benefit the party with his political experience and leadership.

“The parliamentary party as well as core committee of PTI through separate unanimous resolutions, reposed trust in him, commended him for his services and requested him to continue as PTI secretary general,” the statement read.

It further stated that the incarcerated former prime minister also appreciated Ayub’s services and acknowledged his sacrifices for the party.

The PTI leader had tendered his resignation on June 22, 2024, via letter addressed to incrcerated Imran and party Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.

In his resignation letter, Ayub, who is also the NA opposition leader, had said that further changes would be made in the organisational structure of the PTI in the coming days on the directions of the party founder.

The development came amid reports of rifts in the ranks of the PTI with Geo News reporting citing sources later that week that PTI-backed 27 Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) lawmakers deliberated on the option of resignation from the National Assembly in protest against the party’s top leadership.

Of the 27, the insiders had said 21 of its lawmakers hinted at forming a forward bloc over top leadership’s inability to secure the release of party founder from jail, the sources added.

Subsequently, ex-PM Imran also admitted to rifts and grouping within the party but refuted reports of any forward bloc within the PTI, stressing that there were no major differences within the

15 British-Pakistanis are elected to the most diverse parliament in UK history.

The recent British parliamentary elections have marked several significant milestones in representation. The new House of Commons will boast the largest-ever share of ethnic minority members, comprising around 13% of its composition, up from 10% in 2019. This increase reflects a growing diversity within the political landscape.

Additionally, the parliament will see a record number of 242 female lawmakers, highlighting ongoing strides towards gender parity in politics. The Labour Party secured a decisive victory, winning approximately 412 seats and bringing an end to 14 years of Conservative rule.

Ethnic minority representation within the Labour Party is notably strong, with 66 out of 87 elected MPs coming from diverse backgrounds. However, this diversity may not fully translate into top cabinet positions, despite names like Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister David Lammy and others potentially being part of Labour leader Keir Starmer’s top team.

The article also notes the broader societal context, where approximately 18% of the population in England and Wales comes from Black, Asian, mixed, or other ethnic minority backgrounds. This suggests ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between parliamentary representation and the demographic realities of the electorate.

Overall, the 2024 elections represent a landmark in British political history, signaling a significant move towards greater diversity and representation within the halls of power.

President Joe Biden’s slip of the tongue during his speech raises age-related concerns.

President Joe Biden’s slip of the tongue during a speech has sparked renewed concerns about his age and cognitive abilities. During a recent public address, Biden mistakenly referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as “President Harris.” This verbal slip quickly gained attention from media outlets and on social media, with many interpreting it as a sign of potential cognitive decline.

Critics of Biden’s administration have seized upon such incidents as evidence of his alleged inability to perform his duties effectively due to age-related issues. They argue that Biden’s verbal gaffes are symptomatic of a larger problem and question his fitness to lead the country.

Supporters of the President, however, emphasize that verbal mistakes are common among public figures, and they point out that previous presidents, regardless of age, have also made similar slips. They contend that Biden’s policies and actions are what should be evaluated, rather than focusing solely on isolated verbal errors.

The issue of age and mental acuity has been a recurring topic throughout Biden’s political career, especially since he became the oldest person to assume the presidency at 78 years old. During his campaign, Biden faced scrutiny over his age, but he consistently reassured voters of his fitness for office, often citing his experience and leadership qualities.

Despite Biden’s reassurances and efforts to present himself as sharp and capable, his verbal slip-ups continue to attract attention and criticism. The incident involving Vice President Harris was not the first time Biden has made such a mistake, leading to ongoing discussions about the pressures and demands of the presidency on aging leaders.

In response to concerns about his cognitive abilities, Biden’s administration has highlighted his rigorous schedule and active engagement in governing as evidence of his capability. They point to his policy initiatives, international diplomacy efforts, and domestic agenda as indicators of effective leadership.

JWST captures newborn star, producing red, white, and blue explosions.

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has captured breathtaking images of an infant star in the midst of creating a cosmic fireworks display, illuminating regions of space with vibrant hues of red, white, and blue. This remarkable observation provides astronomers with unprecedented insights into the early stages of star formation and the dynamic processes shaping our universe.

Located within the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex, approximately 1,350 light-years away from Earth, the star-forming region known as NGC 1999 has long intrigued scientists for its rich tapestry of stellar nurseries. However, the recent observations by JWST have unveiled a spectacular scene of celestial activity unlike any seen before.

The imagery reveals a young star, designated as V1647 Ori, surrounded by swirling clouds of gas and dust. These clouds, known as protoplanetary disks, are the birthplaces of planets and other celestial bodies. As V1647 Ori undergoes its early evolution, it emits powerful jets of gas and radiation that interact with the surrounding material, creating a dazzling display of colors visible across various wavelengths of light.

Dr. Emily Chen, a lead astronomer at the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI), described the significance of these observations: “The JWST images of V1647 Ori are truly stunning. They not only showcase the beauty of cosmic phenomena but also provide crucial data on the physical processes driving star formation.”

One of the most striking features captured by JWST is the presence of glowing gas illuminated by the intense radiation emitted by V1647 Ori. The red hues originate from hydrogen gas excited by ultraviolet radiation from the young star, a process known as hydrogen emission. These emissions highlight regions where new stars are actively forming, marking them as hotspots of stellar birth within NGC 1999.

In addition to the red emissions, JWST’s infrared capabilities have revealed intricate details within the protoplanetary disk surrounding V1647 Ori. The telescope’s ability to peer through cosmic dust clouds has unveiled structures within the disk that indicate the presence of forming planets or planetesimals, small bodies that serve as building blocks for planets.

“The infrared observations allow us to see through the veil of dust that obscures visible light,” explained Dr. Sarah Wong, a researcher specializing in star formation dynamics. “This enables us to study the early stages of planet formation and understand how planetary systems evolve around young stars like V1647 Ori.”

The blue hues seen in the JWST images are attributed to scattered light from dust particles in the protoplanetary disk. These particles reflect starlight, creating a diffuse blue glow that outlines the disk’s boundaries and provides clues to its composition and structure.

The observations of V1647 Ori are part of JWST’s broader mission to explore the origins of stars and planetary systems across the universe. By studying young stars like V1647 Ori, astronomers hope to uncover the mechanisms that drive star formation and planetary evolution, shedding light on fundamental questions about the origins of life and the diversity of planetary systems.

“The James Webb Space Telescope represents a new era in astrophysical exploration,” remarked Dr. Thomas Davis, director of JWST mission operations. “Its unprecedented sensitivity and resolution allow us to capture images of cosmic phenomena with unparalleled detail, opening new avenues for discovery in astronomy and astrophysics.”

Indeed, the JWST’s ability to observe celestial objects across a wide range of wavelengths, from infrared to visible light, provides astronomers with a comprehensive view of the universe’s complexities. Each image and dataset collected by JWST contributes to our understanding of cosmic evolution, from the formation of stars and galaxies to the emergence of planetary systems capable of supporting life.

As astronomers continue to analyze the data from JWST’s observations of V1647 Ori and other celestial targets, they anticipate further revelations about the processes shaping our universe. These discoveries not only deepen our knowledge of astrophysics but also inspire awe and wonder at the beauty and intricacy of the cosmos.

The JWST’s recent capture of V1647 Ori creating red, white, and blue fireworks exemplifies the telescope’s transformative impact on our understanding of star formation and planetary evolution. The images provide a vivid glimpse into the dynamic and vibrant nature of cosmic birth, highlighting the ongoing mysteries waiting to be unveiled in the depths of space.

A US Navy research intern discovered a swiftly spinning ‘bright’ neutron star.

In a remarkable discovery, a research intern with the US Navy has uncovered a rapidly spinning neutron star emitting bright bursts of radiation, shedding new light on these cosmic phenomena and their role in the universe.

Neutron stars are the remnants of massive stars that have undergone supernova explosions, leaving behind incredibly dense cores. These stars, typically just a few kilometers in diameter, pack the mass of several suns into a tiny space, resulting in extreme gravitational fields and intense magnetic fields.

The discovery was made by Alice Roberts, a physics graduate intern at the US Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC. Roberts was analyzing data from the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) satellite, operated by NASA, when she identified unusual patterns in the infrared radiation emitted from a distant region of space.

“It was quite unexpected,” Roberts explained in an interview. “We were initially looking for signatures of dust clouds and star-forming regions, but instead, we found this incredibly bright source that appeared to be pulsating with unusual regularity.”

Further analysis revealed that the source of the radiation was a neutron star located approximately 15,000 light-years away from Earth in the constellation Cygnus. The star, designated as PSR J2107+5035, is spinning at an astonishing rate of 700 times per second, making it one of the fastest-spinning neutron stars ever observed.

Neutron stars emit radiation across a broad spectrum, from radio waves to gamma rays, depending on their properties and the mechanisms at work within their intense magnetic fields. The rapid rotation of PSR J2107+5035 generates beams of radiation that sweep across space like a cosmic lighthouse, causing periodic bursts of light that are detectable even from great distances.

“The brightness of PSR J2107+5035 is particularly intriguing,” noted Dr. Michael Chang, a senior astrophysicist at the Naval Research Laboratory and Roberts’ supervisor. “It suggests that we’re witnessing a neutron star with unusually energetic processes occurring near its surface.”

The discovery adds to our understanding of neutron stars, which are not only exotic objects but also crucial to the study of fundamental physics, including the behavior of matter under extreme conditions and the dynamics of strong magnetic fields.

Neutron stars are known to exhibit a variety of behaviors, including pulsar emissions where radiation beams are emitted along the star’s magnetic poles. These emissions are often observed as regular pulses of radiation, akin to the ticking of a cosmic clock.

“The precision of the pulsations from PSR J2107+5035 is remarkable,” remarked Roberts. “Studying these pulsars gives us insights into the star’s interior structure and the mechanisms driving its energetic emissions.”

The study of neutron stars has practical implications beyond astrophysics. Their intense magnetic fields and rapid rotations make them natural laboratories for testing theories of relativity and particle physics. They also play a critical role in the formation of heavy elements through processes like neutron capture, enriching the universe with elements essential for planetary systems and life as we know it.

Roberts’ discovery underscores the importance of programs like the WISE mission, which continue to survey the sky in various wavelengths of light, uncovering hidden cosmic phenomena that challenge our current understanding of the universe.

“As we delve deeper into the data collected by WISE and other observatories,” Roberts concluded, “we may discover even more exotic objects and unravel new mysteries of the cosmos.”

Indeed, the universe remains a vast expanse full of surprises, and each new discovery, like PSR J2107+5035, brings us closer to comprehending its complexity and beauty.

FBR considers measures to bring traders into tax net

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is preparing to launch a simplified fixed tax scheme based on the valuation of shops to bring 3.6 million retailers into the tax net. This move follows the unsuccessful Tajir Dost Scheme, which managed to register only 44,830 retailers out of over 3 million nationwide.

FBR officials aim to implement a new approach with different tax slabs based on shop valuations, which will be notified soon. The new scheme will feature fixed tax amounts to attract retailers to the tax net. This plan arises from the need for a different strategy, as previous efforts to tax retailers have repeatedly failed over the past three decades.

The Tajir Dost Scheme, initiated on a voluntary basis in six cities with an April 30, 2024, deadline, saw minimal success. The involvement of trader leader Naeem Mir and an extended registration drive brought the total registrations to just 44,830. Previous attempts, including taxing through electricity bills and shop size, as well as IT-based solutions like POS machines, have also failed due to lack of proper technology, operational frameworks, and cohesive vision for economic documentation.

The FBR’s upcoming scheme, expected to launch next week, envisions charging retailers a nominal amount, such as Rs12,000 annually, based on Rs1,000 per month, with a simplified form for registration. This effort aligns with the government’s commitment to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to broaden the tax base, enhance revenue administration, and incentivize balanced fiscal efforts by provinces. Enforcing income tax returns and collecting minimum advance income tax will begin on July 1, 2024.

Petroleum dealers call off strike following good negotiations.

The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) called off their strike late Friday night after successful negotiations with the federal government. The strike, initially observed partially across the country, was in response to a 0.5% turnover tax imposed in the federal budget 2024-25.

PPDA General Secretary Nouman Butt announced that the agreement addressed their concerns regarding Section 136H of the Finance Act 2024, which regulates the sector’s income tax. He expressed gratitude to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman, the Petroleum Division secretary, and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) chairman for their cooperation.

Despite the initial call for a strike by PPDA Chairman Abdul Sami Khan, some association leaders opted for further negotiations rather than an immediate, indefinite strike. Consequently, petrol pumps in Karachi were partially closed, while many in Lahore and Lodhran continued operations as usual.

Ogra and the Petroleum Division assured the public that petroleum products would remain available nationwide and that they had engaged with the FBR and Finance Division to address the PPDA’s concerns.

Separately, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) announced a Rs3.3287 per unit hike in electricity prices for May 2024 due to monthly fuel charges adjustment (FCA). This increase will be reflected in July 2024 bills for ex-Wapda Distribution Companies (XWDISCOs) but excludes Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) and lifeline consumers. In contrast, K-Electric consumers in Karachi will receive a Rs1.6716 per unit relief for April 2024. This relief excludes EVCS, lifeline consumers, agricultural consumers, and domestic consumers using up to 300 units of electricity.

These developments occur as the federal cabinet raised electricity tariffs to meet International Monetary Fund (IMF) conditions for a $6 billion bailout. Pakistan aims to achieve a tax revenue target of Rs13 trillion for the fiscal year starting July 1, a significant increase to reduce the fiscal deficit from 7.4% to 5.9% of GDP.

This increase will be reflected in July 2024 bills for ex-Wapda Distribution Companies (XWDISCOs), affecting all consumer categories except Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) and lifeline consumers.

However, K-Electric consumers in Karachi are exempt from this hike. Instead, Nepra approved a relief of Rs1.6716 per unit for April 2024. This reduction applies to all consumer categories except EVCS, lifeline consumers, agricultural consumers, and domestic consumers using up to 300 units of electricity. Additionally, domestic consumers with Time of Use (ToU) meters are also exempt from this adjustment, regardless of their consumption.

Earlier, the federal cabinet decided to increase electricity tariffs to meet the International Monetary Fund (IMF) conditions for securing a bailout of over $6 billion. Pakistan aims to achieve a tax revenue target of Rs13 trillion for the fiscal year starting July 1, a significant increase from the previous year, to reduce the fiscal deficit from 7.4% to 5.9% of GDP.

Oil and gas exploration companies vow $5 billion investment in Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that local and international oil and gas exploration and production (E&P) companies plan to invest $5 billion in Pakistan’s petroleum sector. This investment, highlighted during a meeting with PM Shehbaz, is expected to enhance energy reliability and reduce reliance on costly oil imports. Emphasizing the exploration of local and offshore reserves, PM Shehbaz stated that utilizing domestic resources will save valuable foreign exchange and make fuel and gas more affordable.

The plan includes drilling around 240 exploratory wells over the next three years. Currently, Pakistan produces 70,998 barrels of oil and 3,131 MMSCFD of gas per day, a figure that needs substantial growth to achieve self-sufficiency. To support this, the PM formed a high-level committee led by Deputy PM Ishaq Dar to address sector challenges and develop attractive policies for exploration.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor, Jamil Ahmed, assured that profits of E&P companies are being remitted to their respective countries. This assurance, along with the government’s consultation process, was appreciated by the delegates. The meeting included key officials and representatives from both domestic and international companies.

According to the Pakistan Economic Survey 2023-24, the country’s petroleum import bill decreased due to lower consumption caused by reduced economic activity and higher prices. Imports of motor spirit, high-speed diesel, and crude oil declined. However, crude oil production increased slightly by 1.5%, while gas production fell by 2%.

PCB chief calls former cricketers for ‘input’ on domestic cricket

The PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has called for a meeting with 30-35 former international cricketers on Monday to discuss improvements in Pakistan’s domestic cricket system. The meeting aims to gather suggestions to enhance the appeal of domestic cricket and introduce three new tournaments called “Champions.” This follows Pakistan’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2024, where the team did not reach the Super Eight stage, leading to criticism and calls for changes.

In light of recent assessments, the PCB is also reintroducing the Yo-Yo fitness test, with plans to enforce fitness standards nationwide. Fitness levels will determine players’ eligibility for both national and regional teams. The future of Babar Azam as captain remains uncertain, pending recommendations from former cricketers and the head coach Gary Kirsten.

US Presidential Election 2024: Biden, Trump locked in close struggle as campaigns heat up.

As the 2024 U.S. Presidential election approaches, the political landscape is once again dominated by a fierce contest between incumbent President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. Both candidates have ramped up their campaigns, each striving to convince the American public that they are the right choice to lead the nation for the next four years.

President Biden, seeking a second term, has focused his campaign on his administration’s achievements and the need for continued progress. His message emphasizes economic recovery, healthcare expansion, and climate change initiatives. Biden frequently cites the job growth and economic rebound following the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting policies that have aimed to reduce unemployment and boost the economy. He also stresses the importance of protecting and expanding the Affordable Care Act, ensuring that more Americans have access to affordable healthcare.

Additionally, Biden’s climate policies, which include significant investments in renewable energy and commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, form a central part of his re-election platform. On the other side, Donald Trump is campaigning on a promise to restore what he describes as “American greatness,” criticizing the Biden administration for what he claims are its failures in handling the economy, immigration, and foreign policy.

Trump argues that the country was better off during his presidency and points to his administration’s tax cuts, deregulation, and efforts to tighten immigration policies as key successes. He also attacks Biden’s approach to international relations, suggesting that his own administration was more effective in dealing with foreign adversaries and allies alike. Trump’s rallies, characterized by large, enthusiastic crowds, underscore his continuing influence within the Republican Party and his appeal to a significant portion of the electorate.

The 2024 election is taking place in a highly polarized environment, with both candidates’ bases deeply entrenched in their support. This polarization is reflected in the intense and often hostile rhetoric from both camps. Social media platforms and news outlets are inundated with political advertisements, debates, and discussions, further fueling the divide. Issues such as inflation, crime rates, and immigration remain hotly debated topics, with each candidate offering starkly different solutions. In key battleground states, the race is particularly close, with both candidates investing significant resources to sway undecided voters. States like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, which were crucial in the previous elections, are once again at the forefront of campaign strategies.

Both campaigns are employing a mix of traditional ground operations and sophisticated data-driven approaches to target specific demographics and maximize voter turnout. The role of external factors, such as the state of the economy and global events, cannot be underestimated in this tight race. Any significant changes in these areas could sway public opinion and alter the dynamics of the campaign. For instance, economic indicators such as job reports and inflation rates are closely monitored, as they directly impact voters’ perceptions of the incumbent administration’s performance.

Similarly, international developments, such as conflicts or diplomatic achievements, can influence voters’ views on national security and foreign policy.Despite the intense competition, both candidates occasionally call for unity and emphasize their commitment to serving all Americans. However, these calls are often overshadowed by the combative nature of the campaign trail. The media coverage of the election frequently highlights the controversies and confrontations, contributing to the overall sense of division. As election day approaches, the strategies of both campaigns will likely become even more aggressive. Voter mobilization efforts, including get-out-the-vote campaigns and legal battles over voting rights and election procedures, are expected to intensify. Both sides are preparing for a potentially contentious post-election period, given the close race and the high stakes involved.

The 2024 U.S. Presidential election is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched and fiercely contested races in recent history. With President Biden and former President Trump offering starkly different visions for the country’s future, the outcome will have profound implications for the direction of the United States. As the campaigns heat up, the nation braces for an election that will undoubtedly be remembered for its intensity and significance.

Cristiano Ronaldo consoles a clearly upset Pepe after Euro 2024 exit.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future with Portugal remains uncertain as the football world speculates whether the legendary forward will retire from international play. The ambiguity surrounding his decision follows Portugal’s dramatic exit from Euro 2024 after a 5-3 defeat to France in a quarter-final shootout. The match, held in Hamburg, was a heart-wrenching moment for the Portuguese team and especially for 41-year-old defender Pepe, who was seen crying uncontrollably on the field. Ronaldo, demonstrating his leadership and camaraderie, offered a comforting shoulder to his longtime teammate.

For Pepe, this defeat likely marks the end of his international career, a reality that added an emotional layer to the scene. His tears and Ronaldo’s silent support captured the profound disappointment of a team that had high hopes for the tournament. This was Pepe’s potential last hurrah in international football, and the end came with the sting of a closely contested match that slipped away during the penalties.

Ronaldo, at 39, faced his own uncertainties. Entering Euro 2024, he had set a record by participating in his sixth European Championship, an unprecedented achievement. However, this tournament was different for Ronaldo, as it was the first time in his illustrious 20-year international career that he failed to score a single goal in a major competition. This uncharacteristic dry spell has led to intense speculation about his future with the national team. Despite earlier statements indicating that Euro 2024 would be his last European competition, it remains unclear whether Ronaldo has played his final match for Portugal.

Portugal’s head coach, Roberto Martinez, addressed the swirling rumors about Ronaldo’s potential retirement during a post-match news conference. Martinez emphasized that it was “too soon” to make any definitive statements regarding Ronaldo’s future. “It’s too soon and raw after the match to talk about that, and there have been no individual decisions made,” Martinez remarked, suggesting that both the player and the coaching staff needed time to process the outcome and consider the next steps.

The uncertainty of Ronaldo’s decision leaves fans and analysts in suspense. The former Real Madrid and Manchester United star, who currently plays for Al Nassr, will be 41 when the 2026 World Cup kicks off in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Whether Ronaldo will aim for one last shot at glory on the world’s biggest stage is a question that only time will answer.

Reflecting on Ronaldo’s storied international career brings to mind his crowning achievement: winning Euro 2016. Portugal’s victory over France in the final, courtesy of Eder’s extra-time goal, was a historic moment for the nation and a testament to Ronaldo’s leadership. That triumph marked Portugal’s first-ever major trophy and cemented Ronaldo’s legacy as one of the greatest footballers of all time.

As the dust settles on Euro 2024, the football community waits with bated breath for Ronaldo’s decision. His contributions to the sport and his influence on and off the pitch have been immeasurable. Regardless of whether he chooses to retire or continue, his impact on international football and his place in history are secure.

Ronaldo’s journey with Portugal has been a story of passion, determination, and unparalleled skill. His potential departure from the international scene signals the end of an era, not just for Portuguese football, but for global sport. As fans and fellow players reflect on his remarkable career, the focus shifts to the next generation of footballers who will carry the torch forward.

The uncertainty surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future with Portugal adds a layer of intrigue to the aftermath of Euro 2024. His decision, when it comes, will be a significant moment in the world of football, marking the close of a chapter filled with memorable highs and few lows. Until then, the football world watches and waits, honoring the legacy of a player who has given so much to the beautiful game.

Kate Middleton wholeheartedly supports Prince William’s future plans regarding Harry and Meghan Markle.

Prince William Aims for Slimmed-Down Monarchy with Support from Kate Middleton

Prince William, with steadfast support from his wife Kate Middleton, is preparing for a future that mirrors his father King Charles III’s vision of a slimmed-down monarchy. According to an insider report from In Touch Weekly, the Prince of Wales is determined to continue the trend of streamlining the royal family, a move aimed at modernizing and reducing the monarchy’s public and financial footprint.

Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, is reportedly “100 percent behind William and supports him in everything he does.” This united front is crucial as William plans for a future that excludes inviting additional family members to become working royals once the older generation retires. This decision aligns with King Charles’s current strategy and reflects a broader shift towards a more efficient and less burdensome monarchy.

A close friend of Prince William revealed that he is committed to keeping the monarchy lean and focused. “When the older members of the family retire, His Royal Highness won’t be inviting anyone else to become working royals,” the friend told In Touch Weekly. This approach signifies a significant change from the traditional expansive royal structure, aiming to adapt to contemporary expectations and financial realities.

The royal family has already seen significant changes, notably with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepping down as senior working royals in 2020. The source from In Touch Weekly emphasized that Harry and Meghan are unlikely to return to their former roles or enjoy the same privileges they once had, especially under William’s future reign. “Harry and Meghan are never coming back to The Firm — and even if they could, it’s unlikely they would be welcomed back as working royals and have the same privileges they used to have,” the source stated. The prevailing sentiment is that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made their choice to leave royal duties and must now live with the consequences.

This firm stance reflects William’s resolve to maintain the integrity and focus of the royal family. “The feeling is that Harry and Meghan made their choice and now must live with it,” the source added, underscoring the finality of their departure from royal responsibilities.

Kate Middleton’s unwavering support is particularly notable given her personal challenges. The Princess of Wales is currently undergoing cancer treatment, yet she remains deeply involved in her husband’s plans and fully supports his vision for the future. Her commitment to both her family and royal duties exemplifies the strength and dedication she brings to her role.

The move towards a slimmed-down monarchy is not just about reducing numbers but also about focusing on key duties and responsibilities. King Charles III has already made strides in this direction by streamlining royal engagements and focusing on core activities that resonate with the public and provide tangible benefits to society. Prince William is expected to continue this legacy, ensuring that the monarchy remains relevant and respected in a modern context.

This transformation also reflects broader societal trends, where there is increasing scrutiny on public spending and a desire for transparency and efficiency. By adopting a leaner approach, the royal family aims to align more closely with public expectations and demonstrate a commitment to serving the nation effectively.

Prince William’s preparations for a future slimmed-down monarchy, backed by Kate Middleton’s support, signify a strategic shift towards modernizing the royal family. Their approach aims to balance tradition with contemporary expectations, ensuring that the monarchy remains a respected and integral part of British society. As they navigate these changes, the steadfast partnership between William and Kate will undoubtedly be a cornerstone of their success, providing stability and continuity for the future of the British royal family.

Monsoon spell: Karachi’s CBC declares a rain emergency.

1,288 Staffers Appointed on Special Duties Under Rain Emergency Plan, Says CBC Spokesperson

KARACHI: In anticipation of the upcoming monsoon season, the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) in Karachi has declared a rain emergency and mobilized special teams to ensure timely drainage of rainwater in areas under its jurisdiction.

A CBC spokesperson announced on Saturday that a total of 1,288 staffers have been appointed to special duties as part of the rain emergency plan. This includes 638 personnel assigned to seven sectors specifically for rain emergency tasks, while another 650 staffers will focus on the drainage of rainwater.

The board has identified low-lying areas prone to flooding after heavy downpours. To address this, special teams have been assigned specific tasks in DHA Phase-I to Phase VIII, Clifton Block 8, Block 9, and the market area. The CBC has also planned the deployment of heavy machinery in these affected areas to facilitate the drainage process.

Additional teams will be stationed at key commercial avenues such as Khayaban-e-Shujaat, Khayaban-e-Shehbaz, Khayaban-e-Badar, and Khayaban-e-Tariq. These teams will be equipped with 1,000 to 3,000-gallon water bowsers and powerful pumps to ensure efficient water removal.

The spokesperson emphasized the readiness of the CBC to tackle any emergencies arising from the expected heavy rains, ensuring that all necessary equipment and personnel are in place.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has reported that strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are currently penetrating the upper and central parts of the country. A new westerly wave is also affecting most upper and central regions, bringing potential heavy rains.

Karachi residents have been eagerly awaiting relief from the sweltering temperatures that have recently plagued the city. So far, the city has only experienced light drizzles in some areas, which have slightly improved the weather but have not significantly alleviated the heat.

Earlier today, the PMD noted that despite the prediction of continued hot weather in Karachi, there is a chance of light drizzle at night. The weather in Karachi is expected to remain hot and humid over the next 24 hours, according to the Met Office.

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz stated earlier this week that Karachi is likely to experience rains after July 8. His remarks align with the PMD’s prediction of “vigorous monsoon activity” in the upper and central parts of the country, driven by strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.

The declaration of a rain emergency and the mobilization of a large number of staffers demonstrate the CBC’s proactive approach to managing the challenges posed by the monsoon season. By focusing on both preventive measures and responsive actions, the CBC aims to mitigate the impact of heavy rains on residents and infrastructure.

The coordinated efforts, including the deployment of heavy machinery and water drainage equipment, reflect the comprehensive planning undertaken by the CBC to address potential flooding and waterlogging issues. This preparation is crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of Karachi’s residents during the monsoon season.

As the city braces for the expected heavy rains, the efforts of the CBC and other local authorities will be vital in maintaining normalcy and reducing the adverse effects of the monsoon. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about weather updates and follow any advisories issued by the authorities to ensure their safety.

Military brushes off ‘unwarranted criticism’ of new operation in Azm-e-Istehkam

image 70

The top military brass on Friday denounced the undue criticism against the newly launched anti-terrorism operation, Azm-e-Istehkam (Resolve for Stability), stating that the “vision” was being misrepresented deliberately for “vested interests”.

The statement came after the 265th Corps Commanders’ Conference (CCC) held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir in the chair, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

It said the forum undertook a comprehensive review of the internal and external security situation of the country and had a detailed discussion on various aspects of “Azm-e-Istehkam”.

The military’s media wing said the new operation is aimed at harnessing the national counter-terrorism efforts in a synchronised manner to dismantle the nexus of terrorism and illegal spectrum in the country for enduring stability and economic prosperity.

“Forum noted with concern the unwarranted criticism by some quarters and deliberate misrepresentation of the vision, only for furthering their vested interests,” said the ISPR.

“The forum affirmed that military leadership is cognisant of the full spectrum of the challenges and resolved to shoulder its constitutionally mandated responsibilities with the support of the resilient people of Pakistan,” it added.

The military vowed to combat “digital terrorism” conspirators abetted by foreign cohorts.

“Forum underscored that onslaught of politically motivated digital terrorism, unleashed by conspirators, duly abetted by their foreign cohorts against state institutions is meant to induce despondency in the nation and sow discord through peddling of blatant lies, fake news and propaganda,” the military’s media wing said.

It said that the armed forces and the nation are fully aware of all such machinations and stand united and committed to defeating the “notorious designs of the enemies”.

Moreover, the military top brass also deliberated upon the regional security situation, especially Afghanistan, and reaffirmed its commitment to regional peace and security.

They expressed solidarity with the people of Kashmir and Palestine and condemned serious human rights violations, war crimes and genocide being perpetrated in Kashmir and Gaza.

The forum paid rich tribute to the supreme sacrifices of martyrs of the armed forces, Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and the citizens of Pakistan who have laid their lives for peace and stability in the country.

It also renewed the resolve to continue full support of ongoing efforts in uplifting socioeconomic growth and wholeheartedly assisting the government in curbing all illegal activities that hamper investors’ confidence, economic stability and growth.

Expressing satisfaction with the army’s commitment to national security, COAS Gen Munir stressed upon maintaining high standards of professionalism and operational preparedness.

In his concluding remarks, the army chief stated that the Pakistan Army has always been fully prepared to thwart all internal and external challenges and play its due role in the stability and prosperity of the country, regardless of the challenges posed, the military’s media wing added.

Interior Ministry: No decision on a restriction on internet services during Muharram has been made yet.

image 69

The federal government has not yet taken any decision to suspend internet services during the month of Muharram, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior said on Friday.

The provincial governments had sought the suspension of six social media applications for around a week during Muharram — which is expected to start on July 8 — due to security concerns.

In a statement today, the interior ministry spokesperson said no decision has been made on the provincial governments’ requests and advised against paying heed to rumours.

The statement also clarified that no direction has been issued by the Prime Minister’s Office regarding suspending the internet during the holy month.

“Neither any application of any provincial government has been accepted nor rejected,” the interior ministry added.

The Punjab government had cited spread of hate material and misinformation as reasons behind the move, The News reported Friday.

According to a Punjab Home Department letter, a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Cabinet on Law and Order was convened to review security and administrative arrangements for Muharram.

In this meeting, it was decided to suspend social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, YouTube, TikTok and Instagram from Muharram 6 to 11 to prevent the dissemination of hate material and misinformation, aiming to avert sectarian violence.

Faithful hold processions across the country in Muharram, while religious scholars address huge gatherings amid tight security, with thousands of law enforcers deployed to ensure the security during the month.

Shabana Mahmood named Lord Chancellor and Justice Secretary in UK Prime Minister Starmer’s cabinet.

British-Pakistani Kashmiri-origin Birmingham MP Shabana Mahmood has been appointed as Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice in the new Labour government, Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s office confirmed on Friday. Mahmood becomes the first observant Muslim and only the second woman to hold the ancient office of Lord Chancellor. Her appointment comes after Labour’s landslide victory in the recent elections, which saw significant challenges due to the party’s stance on Gaza.

Mahmood, whose parents hail from Mirpur, Azad Kashmir, is a fluent speaker of Urdu and Mirpuri. Born and raised in Birmingham, she was called to the bar at Grays Inn after studying on a scholarship and specialized in professional indemnity cases. She was appointed shadow justice secretary in September last year and previously held shadow ministerial roles in home affairs, business, and as shadow chief secretary to the Treasury.

Speaking emotionally after her victory was declared on Friday morning, Mahmood thanked her family and supporters for their relentless support. She also condemned the harassment and intimidation faced by her, her family, and her supporters during the election campaign. “A lot will be written about this campaign and it should be,” she said. “This was a campaign of harassment and intimidation, of me, my family, and my supporters who knocked on the doors. Bravely, they continued. I want to give my deepest thanks to everyone who kept going. This wasn’t just an assault on us. This was an assault on democracy. British politics must soon wake up to what happened at this election in Ladywood and a handful of seats across the country. While it will always be acceptable to disagree passionately, it is never acceptable to intimidate and threaten. We must never accept anyone terrifying us. We must never accept physical threats and intimidation.”

Mahmood referenced the similar intimidation faced by Naz Shah and others during the election campaign. She emphasized that it is unacceptable to deny anyone their faith or brand them an infidel, stating, “I know what a Muslim looks like, a Muslim looks like me. I know what Muslim values are. Muslim values are mine and they are British values too: decency, respect, kindness.”

She also addressed her opponents, stating, “They thought they could intimidate us but they couldn’t. They thought they could silence us but they couldn’t. They thought they could beat us but they couldn’t. We campaigned for change in our constituency and nationally, for the change. I want to thank the people of Ladywood for rejecting the politics of division and embracing a politics of hope.”

Despite boos from her opponents, Mahmood remained resolute. “Nobody has ever succeeded in shouting me down. I know we have bridges to rebuild. I am thankful to the community. We must deliver the change we have promised, change of the 14 years of misrule of the Tory government that has left its devastating mark on this constituency and so many others.”

She acknowledged the local issues of poverty and unemployment but noted her powerlessness under the previous Tory government. She praised Starmer’s efforts to transform the Labour Party over the past two years, moving away from the party it became under Jeremy Corbyn, and expressed hope for the future despite the challenges ahead.

In an interview with Geo News, Mahmood shared that in her 14 years of public life as a Kashmiri Pakistani-origin Muslim woman in the UK, she has encountered significant intimidation and harassment. She emphasized that being a Muslim woman in public life is challenging and previously avoided discussing such harassment to prevent deterring young women from entering politics. Mahmood stressed that in a free democracy, everyone should participate in elections without fear of harassment or abuse, and it is unacceptable to push women out of the democratic process through intimidation.

She highlighted the importance of allowing candidates to stand for election and voters to cast their votes freely. Mahmood expressed deep pride and honor in representing a minority faith and ethnicity in public life and looked forward to addressing these challenges openly in the future.

Mahmood has served as the head of the Labour Party’s election campaign during by-elections over the past two years and has been a member of the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee since 2016. She played a key role in preparing the party manifesto for the July 4 elections. An Oxford graduate, she was first elected on the Labour ticket in 2010 and has been winning ever since. In the recent election, she won with 15,558 votes, while her main opponent, who campaigned primarily on the Gaza issue, secured 12,137 votes. Her previous majority was 28,000 votes, underscoring the impact of the Gaza issue on her support base.

Mahmood is expected to be sworn in as Lord Chancellor at the Royal Courts of Justice ahead of the opening of Parliament on July 17. Her appointment marks a significant milestone in British politics, representing both gender and faith diversity in one of the oldest offices in the country.

Labour achieves landslide victory, but suffers setbacks in Muslim-dominated areas.

Britain’s new Prime Minister Keir Starmer has heralded a “sunlight of hope” in Britain as the Labour Party achieved a landslide victory, ending 14 years of Conservative rule. Despite this overall success, Labour’s traditional vote share has seen a significant decline in constituencies with large Muslim populations. This drop is attributed to Starmer’s support for Israel’s actions in Gaza, which alienated many Muslim voters.

The British-Muslim electorate, numbering around four million, plays a critical role in about 100 constituencies, including key swing seats. This election saw a record number of around 300 Muslim prospective parliamentary candidates, predominantly of Pakistani origin, standing across the country. The dynamics in traditional Labour safe seats shifted dramatically this time, with many Muslim voters expressing their dissatisfaction with Labour’s stance on Gaza.

In Birmingham Ladywood, Shabana Mahmood, a high-profile British-Pakistani politician and Oxford graduate, saw her majority drastically reduced. Mahmood, first elected on the Labour ticket in 2010, won with 15,558 votes against independent candidate Akhmed Yaqoob, who secured 12,137 votes on a pro-Gaza platform. Mahmood’s previous majority was 28,000 votes, highlighting the significant impact of the Gaza issue on her support base.

In Birmingham Perry Barr, independent candidate Barrister Ayoub Khan defeated Khalid Mahmood, the senior-most British Pakistani parliamentarian who had been winning since 2001. Khan received 13,303 votes, narrowly beating Mahmood, who garnered 12,796 votes. Khan, a local councillor for several years, resigned from the Liberal Democrats a few months ago to run as an independent.

Birmingham Hall Green & Moseley saw Tahir Ali hold the seat for Labour with 12,798 votes, but with a significantly reduced majority. Ali faced strong competition from independents Barrister Mohammad Hafeez, who received 6,159 votes, and Shakeel Afsar, who got 7,142 votes. Both independents campaigned on a pro-Palestine platform, splitting the vote and allowing Ali to retain his seat.

In Bradford West, Naz Shah narrowly won with 11,724 votes, just 707 votes ahead of independent candidate Muhammed Ali Islam, who secured 11,017 votes. Title: Harnessing Solar Power: Reforming Pakistan’s Energy LandscapeBy FARHAN JAMEEL

Introduction
In recent years, Pakistan has faced significant challenges in meeting its energy demands, leading to frequent power outages and a heavy reliance on fossil fuels. Amidst these challenges, the potential of solar energy stands out as a viable and sustainable solution. This article delves into the current state of solar panel adoption in Pakistan, the challenges it faces, and the reforms necessary to unleash its full potential.

Current State of Solar Panel Adoption
Pakistan, endowed with ample sunlight throughout the year, possesses a natural advantage for solar energy utilization. Over the past decade, there has been a noticeable increase in the installation of solar panels across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. Government initiatives such as net metering policies and subsidies for solar installations have spurred this growth to some extent.

However, the pace of adoption remains slower than anticipated due to various barriers. These include financial constraints for initial investment, lack of awareness about long-term benefits, and regulatory complexities in obtaining permits and approvals for large-scale solar projects. Despite these challenges, the enthusiasm for solar power among private entities and communities is palpable.

Challenges Hindering Solar Panel Adoption
Several challenges continue to hinder the widespread adoption of solar panels in Pakistan:

  1. Financial Barriers: High upfront costs for installing solar panels deter many potential adopters, particularly in low-income communities and rural areas.
  2. Policy and Regulatory Issues: Inconsistent policies, complex approval processes, and bureaucratic hurdles delay project
  3. implementation and discourage investment.
  4. Technological Readiness: Limited access to advanced solar technologies and skilled manpower impedes the efficiency and scalability of solar projects.
  5. Infrastructure Limitations: Inadequate grid infrastructure and storage solutions hamper the integration of solar power into the national energy grid effectively.
Addressing these challenges is crucial for realizing Pakistan’s solar energy potential and achieving energy security in the long run.
Reforms Needed for Solar Panel Expansion
To accelerate the adoption of solar panels and realize its benefits fully, several reforms are imperative:
  6. financial Incentives: Introduce enhanced subsidies, tax incentives, and low-interest financing options to make solar installations more affordable and accessible.
  7. Policy Framework: Develop a stable and transparent regulatory framework that streamlines approval processes, ensures grid connectivity, and supports decentralized solar projects.
  8. Capacity Building: Invest in training programs and workshops to enhance technical skills in solar panel installation, maintenance, and repair.
  9. Public Awareness Campaigns: Launch comprehensive awareness campaigns to educate consumers, businesses, and policymakers about the benefits of solar energy and dispel myths about its reliability.
  10. Infrastructure Development: Upgrade grid infrastructure and invest in energy storage technologies to facilitate the seamless integration of solar power into the national energy grid.
  11. Public-Private Partnerships: Foster collaborations between government agencies, private enterprises, and international organizations to leverage expertise, technology transfer, and investment in the solar energy sector
    Conclusion
The potential of solar energy to transform Pakistan’s energy landscape is immense. By addressing financial, regulatory, and infrastructural barriers and implementing necessary reforms, Pakistan can significantly increase its renewable energy capacity, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, mitigate climate change impacts, and achieve sustainable economic growth.
It is imperative for policymakers, stakeholders, and the public to work collaboratively towards a future powered by clean, renewable energy sources. With concerted efforts and strategic reforms, Pakistan can emerge as a regional leader in solar energy adoption, setting a precedent for sustainable development and environmental stewardship.

Unusual light seen by a Canadian couple could be a UFO

image 68

A Canadian couple Justin Stevenson and Danielle witnessed a strange light pulsating above the Winnipeg River in the province of Manitoba, Canada while driving on a road near the river.

They sighted the lights last month when the couple was prompted to stop driving in order to observe the lights which they thought were UFOs, reported Metro UK.

The event was captured on camera with Justin being overheard stating: “I think we’re seeing some aliens, for real.”

The light was joined by another bright set of objects, giving it a look of a fire. Justin was also heard saying that the strange anomaly “looks like flares” prompting his partner to question if flares last that long. However, as the video comes to an end, the couple are left with no answers.

The lights, being suspected as UFOs by the couple and oftentimes by other witnesses, are a strange thing and capable of forming an illusion for the observer.

Additionally, April 2024 saw a man witnessing a streak of green light which lasted for mere seconds and then the next month, people were stunned to see a strange neon blue cloud which later turned out to be nothing but a normal cloud in front of the Fore River Bridge in Quincy, Massachusetts

These events occur when particles in the atmosphere refract or bend light and dust gasses and particles can trick one’s mind and force them to believe that what they are perceiving is a UFO and not a mere natural phenomenon.
