Sindh forbids pillion riding on Muharram 9 and 10.

In anticipation of the holy month of Muharram, the Sindh government has taken proactive measures to ensure peace, security, and the observance of religious rituals across the province. These measures, outlined in a notification by the provincial home department, include a ban on pillion riding effective ahead of Ashura on Muharram 9 and 10, coinciding with the commencement of the new Islamic year in the first week of July.

The ban on pillion riding is a standard precautionary measure aimed at preventing potential security threats during sensitive periods such as Muharram, a time of deep religious significance for Muslims worldwide. However, exceptions have been made to accommodate specific groups, including women, children under the age of 12, senior citizens, differently abled individuals, journalists, law enforcement personnel, private security agency personnel in uniform, and employees of essential services. These exemptions ensure that those who may not pose security risks are not inconvenienced unnecessarily.

Additionally, the government has enforced Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), which prohibits carrying and displaying weapons without a permit, as well as conducting processions and Majalis (religious gatherings) without prior authorization. This legal framework is crucial for maintaining public safety and order, particularly in densely populated areas where large gatherings could potentially escalate into security challenges if not properly regulated.

During Muharram 1 to 10, authorities in Sindh have been instructed to strictly enforce regulations concerning the use of loudspeakers, dissemination of materials inciting hatred or violence, unauthorized presence on rooftops during Muharram events, and unauthorized assemblies of five or more individuals, except for sanctioned religious processions and gatherings. These measures are designed to prevent any disruptions to public tranquility and ensure that religious activities proceed peacefully and respectfully.

Furthermore, the directive suspends all previously issued permissions by the Home Department for carrying weapons under relaxed conditions, reinforcing the stringent enforcement of the ban on arms and ammunition during this period. Station House Officers (SHOs) have been empowered to take legal action against violators of these regulations under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), emphasizing the government’s commitment to upholding law and order.

Meanwhile, in Punjab, a similar approach has been adopted with the declaration of 502 sensitive locations where stringent security measures will be enforced during Muharram. The provincial interior ministry has restricted processions and gatherings to designated areas where comprehensive monitoring will be conducted to ensure compliance with safety protocols and prevent any potential security threats.

These measures reflect the government’s proactive stance in safeguarding public safety and religious freedoms during Muharram, a period of solemnity and commemoration for Muslims worldwide. By implementing these regulations, authorities aim to facilitate the peaceful observance of religious rituals while mitigating any risks to public security, underscoring the importance of effective governance and community cooperation in maintaining harmony and cohesion during sensitive times.

Reflecting on Khan’s departure and the transition to new leadership, Horst expressed confidence that the foundation laid by Khan would endure, ensuring continued progress in US-Pakistan relations. “While Ambassador Khan is leaving us, the relationship between Pakistan and the US is stronger than ever,” Horst affirmed. She conveyed gratitude on behalf of the State Department for Khan’s two years of dedicated service, which had left an indelible mark on bilateral ties.

His contributions have set a high standard for future ambassadors and underscored the importance of personal engagement and strategic vision in international diplomacy. Elizabeth Horst’s tribute encapsulated the profound impact of Ambassador Khan’s tenure and affirmed the enduring strength of US-Pakistan relations forged under his leadership.

One of the most notable challenges was the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022. This event was a momentous and emotionally charged time for the entire royal family, but especially for William, who had to assume a more prominent role in supporting his family. The situation was further complicated by the strained relationship with his brother, Prince Harry, who traveled separately to Balmoral following the Queen’s passing. Meghan Markle’s decision to stay behind due to her contention with Kate Middleton only added to the tension. Despite these complications, William managed the situation with remarkable finesse, a quality highlighted by royal commentator Ingrid Seward. She noted that even during this emotional period, William’s wife, Kate, had to prioritize their children’s first day at a new school, showcasing the couple’s dedication to their family responsibilities despite personal grief.

Harry and Meghan’s move to the United States and their subsequent public statements about the royal family have caused considerable strain. Despite these challenges, William has maintained a composed and diplomatic approach, focusing on his duties and responsibilities as the Prince of Wales. His ability to remain steadfast in his role, while navigating the complexities of a public familial rift, has been commendable.

NASA refutes reports that astronauts are stuck in space

NASA’s Boeing Starliner has faced several setbacks, delaying its return from the International Space Station (ISS). Initially scheduled to return on June 14, then pushed to June 26, the return date is now indefinite due to helium leaks and thruster malfunctions.

The Starliner, carrying astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams, launched from Florida’s Cape Canaveral on June 5. Shortly after docking at the ISS, multiple helium leaks were discovered, along with issues in the thrusters used for fine maneuvers. One thruster failed to engage during docking, causing delays as engineers attempted to diagnose and rectify the problems. Despite these challenges, NASA insists the astronauts are not stranded and are actively engaged in their mission on the ISS.

NASA’s Commercial Crew Program manager, Steve Stich, emphasized the agency’s commitment to safety and thoroughness. Stich compared the current issues with those encountered during the early Space Shuttle missions, highlighting the complexity and risks associated with space travel. He stated that the mission management team is closely monitoring the situation and will only proceed with the return when it is safe to do so.

Boeing’s Vice President of the Commercial Crew Program, Mark Nappi, acknowledged the difficulties but remained optimistic about the overall progress. He mentioned that despite the negative publicity, the mission has provided valuable data and insights that will benefit future flights. The additional time on the ISS allows for further testing of the spacecraft’s systems and procedures, ensuring better preparedness for subsequent missions.

NASA and Boeing plan to use this period to conduct an agency-level review similar to that undertaken after SpaceX’s Demo-2 mission. This thorough review process aims to ensure that all systems are functioning correctly and to document the lessons learned. The goal is to avoid similar issues in future missions and to refine the Starliner’s systems for its long-term role in ferrying astronauts to and from the ISS.

While the delays are frustrating, they reflect NASA and Boeing’s dedication to astronaut safety and mission success. The teams are working diligently to address the helium leaks and thruster malfunctions, ensuring that Wilmore and Williams return home safely at the appropriate time.

What Led to Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s Relationship Issues Two Years After Marriage

The recent turbulence in Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s marriage, nearly two years after their highly publicized reunion and wedding, has been a subject of intense media speculation. Several factors have contributed to the strain in their relationship.

One significant issue has been their demanding careers. Jennifer Lopez has been deeply involved in promoting her latest film, “Atlas,” and preparing for an upcoming tour. This intense focus on work has led to her spending extended periods away from home. Meanwhile, Ben Affleck has been busy filming “The Accountant 2” and managing other professional commitments. This physical separation has reportedly contributed to the couple’s growing distance.

The pair has also faced personal challenges related to their blended family. Balancing responsibilities with their respective children from previous marriages has added layers of complexity to their relationship. Ben Affleck shares three children with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, while Lopez has twins with her ex-husband Marc Anthony. The logistical and emotional demands of co-parenting in such a context have not been easy.

Rumors of a fallout began circulating when fans noticed that Lopez and Affleck had not been seen together in public since March 2024. The speculation intensified when Lopez canceled her summer tour, citing the need to focus on family and personal well-being. Despite these issues, both have made public efforts to appear united. They were recently seen together at Affleck’s daughter Violet’s graduation, which was a rare joint appearance amid the rumors of their problems.

Additionally, communication issues have been cited as a critical factor. Sources close to the couple suggest that they have struggled to maintain effective communication amidst their busy schedules and external pressures. This breakdown has led to misunderstandings and a sense of isolation for both parties. .

Despite these challenges, neither Affleck nor Lopez has officially confirmed a separation. They have remained relatively silent on the matter, choosing not to directly address the breakup rumors. In her newsletter, Lopez alluded to the negativity surrounding her personal life but focused on her professional achievements instead. This approach has left many questions unanswered, fueling further speculation about the true status of their relationship.

The fallout between Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez appears to be the result of a combination of professional commitments, family dynamics, and communication struggles. While they have not officially confirmed a separation, the ongoing strain in their marriage has been evident, leading to widespread media coverage and public interest.

A Call For An Effective International Conference.

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I want to highlight a serious issue i.e: A call for an effective international conference.

According to the annual UNHCR Global Trends report, 120 million people are forcibly displaced around the world. This includes 43.4 million refugees, 68.3 million internally displaced people, 6.9 million asylum-seekers, and 5.8 million others in need of protection. The report states that 75% of these displaced people are from middle-income countries, migrating to seek protection or jobs. Additionally, many displaced people live in climate hazard zones. Besides this, Conflicts from Sudan to Syria, Congo to Afghanistan, Ukraine, Gaza, and Myanmar are among the numerous emergencies we see globally.

This report highlights the dire condition of the world. Can we still claim we are safe? Organizations established for global betterment are failing to address these issues effectively. The situations in Palestine and Sudan are clear examples of how international bodies like the UN are doing little for innocent people. Except for a few countries, the world’s condition is miserable. This is how our organizations are protecting us at an international level. Getting food, clothes or a home is not only the need of today’s generation. There were homes in Palestine as well. What happened to these homes we already know. We need protection. We want to live a peaceful life in the world. The world that is free of wars or terror. It can be only possible through the unity of 195 countries collaboration.

The most important thing for all the people is their lives other things are secondary. If we don’t find people in the world so for whom there are a lot of housing schemes, job schemes, etc. To make the world peaceful, we must first create peace in different states that are suffering from wars, sexual abuse, poverty, hunger, and crimes. This is the only way to make the world a beautiful place and the way to control the displacement of people worldwide. It can be only possible when international organizations remove the difference between developed and underdeveloped countries by providing a hard framework. I hope you will publish my article in your newspaper.
Yours truly,
Mehak Ali.

Do curricula bridge the gap between Industry and Institution?

Dr Muhammad Akhlaq

Generally, the curricula are taken as a collection of teachings, training and lessons that are
taught in educational institution. Typically, it might be a set of descriptions with the entirety
of the experiences a student would have during teaching by a teacher. With these two
sentences, where do we stand in Pakistan with our curricula of different subject?
Importantly, a curriculum with its directives of lessons and experiments may truly lead one
to the certain goals set by a profession. It may execute clear conclusion points of the
courses to be accomplished by the students and teachers at the same time. There are
different levels for which different curriculums have been designed and implemented
across the country. The curriculum is a set of object lessons which help teachers to
associate their goals and outcomes on a day-to-day basis. Curriculum having overall
purposes for teachers to achieve through their instruction helps them as it provides
guidance on how to break them down into smaller outcomes. This means that each lesson
plan, or learning activity can be geared towards achieving a specified learning goal that
helps students’ progress. A valuable curriculum will provide the opportunity to connect
teachers across institutions as well as the relevant industries, so that they can share the
problems and plan together thereafter. This allows them to think long term and to
encourage student development across the key stages and across the subject disciplines
throughout the profession.

Keeping in view the various curricula of different disciplines in Pakistan, queries may
ascend in one’s mind. Do we have ever tried to measure the points of contact among those
curriculums of various levels? Is there any shared aim of the lessons and experiments
taught at various levels? Do our students reach secondary and higher education with same
levels? Have we ever focused on calling different stake holders to sit around a table to
design sequential curriculums of various disciplines? Does the curriculum in Pakistan
bridge the industry and academia? What sort of production or problem solution
approaches are being achieved directly or indirectly from the curriculum by the industry in
Pakistan? Does the research done in Pakistan ever come out of the thesis getting termites
in cupboards?
Whatever the discipline is, generally there are two different ways to design a curriculum.
First is the subject oriented design which particularly focus the subjects like mathematics,
statistics, zoology, and biology thereby warranting that a fundamental arrangement of
knowledge is communicated to students throughout the lesson.
The other is a learner oriented or problem-oriented curriculum design which focuses more
on what the students need to learn, or how they might know about solving a problem. This
sort of design is purely scientific approach with deep-rooted insight of professional
knowledge and skill.
Before preparing or modifying the curriculum, one must keep the following point of focus in mind.

The curriculum should consist of the following parts: Purpose statement which
justifies the need of your topic and class, outcome statement which explains the goals of
your class thereby enlightening that what you want your students to know about after the
class accomplishes, course syllabus which tells that what sort of information do you want
to narrate to your students through an all-embracing document already approved by its
professional body according to the current and future market needs of the community, the
most important one is the strategic framework which portrays the different teaching
methods used in the class, essential resources includes the availability of book notes and
any other items required for the teaching, verification method depicts the points to be
focused and presented to the administration and parents like success and failure of the
students and being last but not the least is the capstone project which is the final valuation
of the student learned in the typical filed though curriculum as well as the relevant
professional skills. The capstone project is the cumulative final assessment of the student
through which a student may get his/her way to a desired professional destination.
In the current era of research and technology the restructuring and modification of the
curriculum equipped with the latest information and skills is utmost necessary. Very
unfortunately, it has been observed that most of the curriculums in Pakistan are merely a
sort of blind transformation of the educational programs from the developed countries
especially from USA and Europe. Without keeping the local market needs in view, it seems
very much astonishing to implement the curricula of the developed world in a developing
country like Pakistan. This radical predicament ultimately results in the joblessness,
inflation, and the instability thereafter.
No doubt from the very beginning, Higher Education Commission of Pakistan is trying to
develop as well as revise the curricula of various discipline through its sub-committee
namely National Curriculum Revision Committees (NCRCs). This committee, in order to
impart quality education, calls the academicians, researchers and professionals through
the relevant bodies and/or councils inviting them to revise the curricula from time to time.
The meetings are called most often but the experts just dare to mix up the topics and
terminologies by changing the head and making new groups without incorporating the new
materials as per current local needs of the time and future. Nevertheless, it is observed
that the local market fails to produce the local product. The import is growing day by day
instead exporting the local product with few exceptions. Despite of various revisions, it
seems that the curricula are still outdated. The topics which were taught in early eighty’s
are still outlined in the courses.
As per need of the time, the curricula should be market oriented. The production as well as
problem centered syllabus may train the graduates to step forward to their professional life
with zeal and zest having the confidence to serve the society with their knowledge and
skills. The authorities in coordination with HEC through academicians and professionals
need to create the opportunities around according to the requirement. The curricula must
also be designed to encourage the professionals to establish and promote the self-
business accordingly. To stop the skilled brain drainage, the government should plan to
support the professionals alternately wherever and whatever possible.

With King Charles, Prince William has had enough of Prince Harry.

image 215

Prince Harry has finally come to see Prince William putting his own foot down when it comes to Kate Middleton and his admission back into the royal fold.

Everything has been claimed by royal commentator Phil Dampier.

According to a report by OK magazine he weighed in on things during an interview.

There he highlighted Prince William’s shifting priorities and admitted, “William’s main priority is to protect Catherine from any stress or upset and the King is also not in the mood to put himself through some kind of emotional roller coaster with an unpredictable Harry.”

“I’d like to think that at some point the penny has dropped with Harry and he realizes that he has permanently damaged his relationship with his blood family, but I wouldn’t bet on it,” Mr Dampier also admitted during the course of his chat.

For those unversed, the royal rift has been ongoing since Megxit became formal.

By this time there has been a memoir dropped, a Netflix docuseries shared, as well as personal interviews by the Duke himself, highlighting just how ‘painful’ life was in the Royal Family.

In the eyes of Mr Dampier, “It’s very sad because Harry was once so popular and the King is not seeing his grandchildren.”

Poehler noted that she was impressed with the storyline of the sequel, “When they told me their idea of how to approach the second one, I thought it was just genius.”

While talking about the main idea of the movie Poehler explained that the story of the Inside Out 2 revolves around questions like, “What kind of friend do you want to be? What kind of person do you want to be? What do you care about?”

“I think that is a completely universal experience,” she added.

The Inside Out 2 hit the theaters on June 14.

In light of recent controversies, Ariana Grande’s mother soothes her with a birthday wish.

image 213

Ariana Grande and her family are seemingly trying to control damage as her birthday coincided with her recent ‘hurtful’ remarks.

Grande, who is being slammed for romanticising a serial killer on public platform, took her birthday excitement to social media only a few days after her controversial podcast interview on Podcrushed.

The post showcases a black-and-white photo of Grande smiling with her eyes closed as she eats cucumber slices, writing “Thank you and love you. hello 31 :),” in the caption but also making sure no criticism make it to the comment section.

While Grande, 31, still didn’t get online support from her boyfriend Ethan Slater, her mother tried doing her bit by leaving a cheerful birthday message in the comment section.

“I love you my sweet sweet angel,” her mom wrote while many other faces from the entertainment and fashion industry also shared their admiration for the Grammy-winning singer, including Donatella Versace.

“Happy birthday to you gorgeous @arianagrande ????????????????,” the fashion mogul wrote.

Grande also shared a dance video from her childhood where she could be seen pulling off the steps from Spanish hit song Aserejé by early 20s girl band Las Ketchup.

Grande’s mom previously recounted her daughter’s talent as a child, adding that Grande ‘didn’t know’ she could sing and ‘thought everybody sounds like that.’

“She was probably 3, 3½. And she was in her car seat and I was driving and listening to NSYNC as every mother should be,” recalled Joan. “She hit one of JC [Chasez]’s power high notes and I kind of pulled the car over and I said, ‘Ariana, was that you?’,” she told People.

Adele hopes for a major Hollywood break by relying on “insider” Rich Paul.

image 212

According to a source privy to Life & Style, the singer, who announced her marriage to the sports agent in November, will be profiting off her husband who reportedly has “all the inside connections.”

“Rich is a big thinker, and that has served him incredibly well over the last 20 years in business and over the last few years that he’s been with Adele,” the insider said.

The tipster dwelled on the fact that despite her fame, Adele has always been treated like “an outsider.”

“For Adele, there’s always been a disconnect between her enormous popularity and power when it comes to recording music and the way she has been treated in Hollywood, which is mostly like an outsider,” they explained.

On the other hand, Rich has made resourceful connections in the industry in the past twenty years.

“Rich, on the other hand, is the ultimate insider and very comfortable making things happen behind the scenes. He is going to be a major leader in the sports and agency businesses for decades to come.,” they continued, adding that how he’s going to help Adele is still a mystery.

The tipster concluded, “The big question in front of him right now is how to help Adele get to the next level, get some serious Hollywood-based projects in the pipeline, and become more of a multimedia brand the way so many of Rich’s long-term clients have become.”

Four ministers were detained for allegedly using “black magic” on the president of the Maldives.

image 211

Two ministers were among four people arrested for allegedly performing “black magic” on Maldives President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, reports cited officials as saying.

As per Economic Times, the suspects include Fathimath Shamnaz Ali Saleem, the state minister for Environment, Climate Change and Energy, her ex-husband Adam Rameez, who is also a minister at the President’s Office and two others.

The climate minister was remanded in custody for a week pending investigations, officers said, without giving details for her arrest in the mysterious matter.

“There have been reports that Shamnaz was arrested for performing black magic on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu,” said the Sun, a local media outlet.

Notably, both Shamnaz and Rameez were known to have worked with Muizzu as members of the Male City Council when he was serving as the city’s mayor, The Economic Times reported.

Police would neither confirm nor deny the report and have declined to share any information about the reasons for the alleged performance of black magic.

Shamnaz holds an important position in a nation which remains on the frontlines of the climate crisis, with UN environment experts warning that rising seas could make Maldives virtually uninhabitable by the end of the century.

Sorcery is not a criminal offence under the penal code in the Muslim-majority country, but it does carry a six-month jail sentence under Islamic law.

People across the picturesque archipelago widely practice traditional ceremonies, believing they can win favours and curse opponents.

Previously, a 62-year-old woman was stabbed to death by three neighbours on Manadhoo in April 2023 after she was accused of conducting black magic rituals, the Mihaaru news site reported last week, after a lengthy police investigation.

It quoted police as saying that they had failed to find any evidence the murder victim performed sorcery.

In 2012, police cracked down on an opposition political rally after accusing organisers of throwing a “cursed rooster” at officers raiding their offices.

Pakistan will not be asking the US for help with Operation Azm-e-Istehkam.

image 210

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has clarified that Pakistan will not seek US support in conducting the Operation Azm-e-Istehkam launched to root out the menace of militancy from the country.

In an interview with a US media outlet, he said that the decision to launch a new operation was not made in haste, adding that Pakistan witnessed a significant surge in terrorist incidents.

The Central Apex Committee on the National Action Plan (NAP) last Saturday approved the “Operation Azm-e-Istehkam”, a reinvigorated and re-energised national counter-terrorism drive, to eliminate terrorism from the country.

However, opposition parties including the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) opposed the military operation, demanding that parliament must be taken into confidence about the new operation.

Referring to the opposition’s criticism in today’s interview, the defence minister said some political groups and parties are opposing the military operation for political point scoring.

“Political parties’ reservations on Azm-e-Istehkam will be addressed and the [operation] will be discussed in parliament,” he said, adding that the opposition parties would be briefed on details of the operation.

He also said that Azm-e-Ishtehkam is being opposed on “political grounds” as some parties prioritised their political interests over the country.

Moreover, Asif said all All Parties Conference (APC) could be called to evolve consensus on the operation.

The federal minister maintained that terrorism is linked to the country’s economy, saying that the economic condition couldn’t be improved until terrorism is wiped out from the country. “How the foreign investment would come without eliminating terrorism?”

Asif also said that China expressed concerns over Pakistan’s security situation as the former wanted to see its neighbour economically independent.

He added that Pakistan would be China’s first priority if it improves the security situation. The defence minister said that the military operation — Azm-e-Istehkam — was also being conducted given the country’s economic hardships.

Responding to a question, Asif said cross-border elements were operating the banned outfit while some of its cells were working in Pakistani territory, he said.

“Exporting terrorism from Afghanistan soil to our territory is a clear violation of international law. A party is violating the international law and not fulfilling its right as a neighbour.”

Commenting on the expected adverse impacts of another military operation, Asif claimed that Azm-e-Istehkam’s scope would be entirely different from past operations as it would not result in a large-scale displacement of locals.

The Punjab government, led by the PML-N, has never misused its authority to suppress the opposition: Chief Minister Maryam

image 209

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said on Friday that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government neither abused its authority against the opposition nor did it ever try to restrict facilities for its [jailed] political rivals.

CM Maryam was addressing the Punjab Assembly’s (PA) session discussing Budget FY25 under the chair of Speaker Malik Ahmed Khan.

The opposition lawmakers resorted to ruckus during her address and chanted anti PML-N slogans, but she continued to speak amid the noisy protest.

However, the daughter of PML-N supremo blasted the former provincial government of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), saying: “They were busy setting new records of incompetence and removing air conditioners from other people [when they were in prison cells].”

CM Maryam stated that the ruling PML-N President Nawaz Sharif had instructed the authorities that instead of one install two air conditioners in the prison cell of PTI founder Imran Khan— the former premier who is held at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.

She said that PTI’s trolls used to ridicule her for her public-friendly actions. “They take checking the price of roti at a tandoor as an insult and used to mock me.”

“Punjab is the only province that has reduced the price of roti. Instead of shouting slogans here, they [PTI lawmakers] should reduce prices [of roti] in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” she said.

The CM mentioned that a tax-free budget was presented in Punjab for the first time, which should have pleased the opposition as well. The citizens of Punjab have sighed in relief after years, she added.

The chief minister detailed that her government restored basic facilities to the masses, which were halted by the previous administration, especially the provision of free medicines at government hospitals. Moreover, inflation was brought down to its lowest level in years, she added.

Due to the noisy protests by the opposition, the provincial assembly failed to approve the supplementary budget and adjourned the session till Saturday, 2pm.

Speaker Malik Ahmed Khan said that he tried to run the house in a better way and now he would use his “constitutional powers” to maintain order.

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari, while talking to journalists after the budget session, said that they also sat on the opposition benches but did not misbehave like today’s opposition.

She criticised the opposition for crossing the limits of misconduct and said that what happened during the chief minister’s address was regrettable.

Bukhari further stated that a tit-for-tat response would be given to the opposition and in the next session, the treasury would not listen to any opposition lawmaker’s speech.

image 207

At least nine citizens in Karachi have lost their lives in a day due to intense heat prevailing in the port city for over a week.

The deceased have been admitted to different hospitals due to heatstroke. According to the data obtained by Geo News, three heatstroke patients died in the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), commonly known as Jinnah Hospital.

Moreover, the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital reported five deaths while one fatality was reported by the Civil Hospital.

After recent heatstroke-related deaths, the toll jumped to 26. The deceased patients include six male and three female citizens.

Despite scattered rains in parts of the metropolis, the weather remained hot and humid in the city amid predictions of more rains.

According to the Met Office on Friday, the weather in Karachi will be hot and humid during the next 24 hours, while rain with thunder is expected in a few places and the city’s suburbs.

The Met Office said that thunderstorms in the city may form after 1pm, while there is more chance of rain today than yesterday. “Due to low air pressure, there will be no sea breeze today.”

The number of heatstroke patients has witnessed a steep rise in a few days as Karachi remained under the grip of extremely hot and humid weather with the mercury touching 42°C while “feels-like” exceeding 50°C a day earlier in the port city.

Three days ago, at least 150 heatstroke patients were brought to Karachi’s Civil Hospital, including 40 citizens affected by intense heat remained admitted to the medical facility since Tuesday morning.

Many patients got dehydrated due to sizzling temperatures and were discharged after providing necessary medical assistance, Additional Medical Superintendent Civil Hospital told the media.

Meghan Markle declines to yield to Kate Middleton in the role of obedient Duchess

image 205

Meghan Markle is reportedly fighting back against Kate Middleton because she does not want to be subservient to her.

Royal commentator and expert Tom Bower issued these claims and sentiments.

According to a report by Express UK Mr Bower issued a number of accusations against the Duchess of Sussex.

He started by branding her ‘discontent’ due to how “in the royal hierarchy she was subservient to Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and the future Queen.”

He explained it all and admitted, “In Meghan’s celebrity world, ranking depended on wealth and fame.”

“As a seasoned operator, Meghan deluded herself that her status in the Royal Family placed her above Victoria in the social pecking order.”

So “She was irritated to discover that the Beckhams had considerably more wealth than herself.”

“They owned five homes, had constant access to private jets, invitations to sail on yachts and much more money.”

“And she was soon to be a duchess,” all those years ago.

For those unversed, at the time Meghan Markle had developed a rather close relationship with the Spice Girls’ star, even being offered beauty advice.

However, this “growing friendship” later sparked cracks and the Duchess wound up “furious” over a number of things.

The resolution to reject Omar Ayub’s resignation was approved by PTI legislators.

image 198

Members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) parliamentary party on Friday unanimously approved a resolution against accepting the party’s Secretary General Omar Ayub’s resignation.

In a surprising development, top PTI leader Omar on Thursday stepped down as the secretary-general of the Imran Khan-founded party “to focus” on his role as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan.

The politician said that the PTI founder had accepted his resignation that he had tendered on June 22, 2024, via a letter addressed to jailed former prime minister and party Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.

However, a meeting of the PTI lawmakers earlier today okayed a resolution calling for not accepting the opposition leader’s resignation and expressing complete trust in his leadership as the secretary general of the party.

The resolution proposed Omar’s continuation of services as the PTI secretary general.

As the rifts in the former ruling party widened, the resolution also condemned the reports of the potential formation of a forward bloc by some disgruntled PTI leaders.

“There is no truth in the reports regarding any forward bloc in PTI. All members are united under the leadership of the party founder and lifetime chairman,” it stated.

Earlier today, senior leader Sher Afzal Marwat demanded resignation from PTI stalwart Shibli Faraz, saying that the party will only then be freed from the “qabza mafia”.

“I demand the resignation of Shibli Faraz from party positions and as leader of the Opposition in Senate,” said Marwat, who has been at loggerheads with Faraz and other party leaders.

In May, the outspoken jurist-turned-politician also refused to work with Senator Faraz and Omar, saying they didn’t allow him to meet incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan.

While announcing his resignation, Omar on Wednesday revealed that more changes would be made in the organisational structure of the PTI in the coming days on the directions of the party founder.

“I want to thank all members of the PTI family, Parliamentarians, and Tanzeem Office Holders who have worked tirelessly and braved tremendous hardships for [ex] PM Imran Khan sahib and PTI,” he had written in a post on X.

The development came amid the deepening conflicts within the ranks of the PTI with Geo News reporting citing sources on Wednesday that PTI-backed 27 Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) lawmakers deliberated on the option of resignation from the National Assembly in protest against the party’s top leadership.

Of the 27, the insiders had said 21 of its lawmakers hinted at forming a forward bloc over top leadership’s inability to secure the release of party founder Imran Khan from jail.

They also “conveyed a message” to PTI chief Barrister Gohar and Secretary-General Omar Ayub to make serious efforts for incarcerated leaders’ release.

The disgruntled MNAs complained that some leaders were eyeing higher posts instead of focusing on the PTI founder and party leaders’ release.

Ayub was appointed as the PTI secretary-general last year after his predecessor Asad Umar quit the party and active politics, joining the ranks of dozens of party members who parted ways with former PM Khan in the aftermath of violent May 9 protests that saw attacks on public and military installations.

His resignation came on the same day when a district and sessions court in Islamabad shattered the PTI’s hopes for the release of the party founder as Khan and his wife’s pleas seeking suspension of their sentences were rejected.

Khan, the deposed prime minister who was ousted from power via the opposition’s no-confidence motion in April 2022, has been facing a slew of charges ranging from corruption to terrorism since his removal as the premier.

He has been behind bars since August last year after he was sentenced in the Toshakhana case and subsequently sentenced in other cases ahead of the February 8 elections.

Despite securing relief in other cases including £190 million reference and Toshakhana, and acquittal in the cipher case earlier this month, the former premier remains behind bars due to his conviction in the iddat case.

Khawaja Asif is under fire from PTI for making hints about starting anti-terrorist operations in Afghanistan.

image 204

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) fired a fresh salvo at the government on Friday, criticising Defence Minister Khawaja Asif after reports suggested he hinted at launching anti-terror cross-border attacks inside Afghanistan, the war-torn country that shares a 2,640km border with Pakistan.

“We don’t allow any interference in our country, so we shouldn’t interfere in any other country,” members of the united opposition in the National Assembly stated in an emergency meeting on Friday. The meeting of senior opposition leaders took place in the Opposition Lobby in the National Assembly, with former NA Speaker Asad Qaiser and others in attendance.

In a recent interview with a US media outlet, the defence minister ruled out negotiations with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The government aims not only to curb economic losses caused by the smuggling of oil, fertilizers, and other goods from Afghanistan into Pakistan but also to thwart terrorist infiltration, prevent potential breaches, and implement security checks at the borders.

While condemning Asif’s rhetoric, opposition leaders stated that such statements endanger not only the “brotherly” relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan but also regional peace.

“Our ties with India are based on rivalry, and now we are adopting the same behavior with Afghanistan. We cannot afford further escalation of conflict and disorder,” Qaiser remarked. He emphasised that launching attacks inside a neighbouring country would risk pushing the entire region into war.

Omar Ayub, Leader of the Opposition in the NA, highlighted that “even major world powers have faced challenges in Afghanistan, which has always been considered a geostrategic focal point in the region”.

“India is leading many terrorist attacks inside Pakistan. Why didn’t the defence minister remark about launching attacks inside India?” he questioned during a media talk outside parliament. The PTI leader reiterated that his party did not want to drag the country into “someone else’s war”. Referring to the federal minister’s comment about eliminating militancy to attract foreign investment, Ayub asserted that in fact, adherence to the Constitution was necessary for investment.

Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar stated that Asif’s statement had “harmed” the country. “Khawaja Asif made these remarks without taking the assembly into confidence,” he added, highlighting the opposition’s crucial role in democracy. Gohar deplored the defence minister’s remarks, suggesting they presented a “negative” image of Pakistan to the world.

In addition, PTI leader Zartaj Gul questioned, “Has the government declared India its friend and Afghanistan its rival?” She picked the defence minister apart even more for what she described as an “extremely irresponsible conversation.”

Opposition parties, including PTI and Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), have opposed the anti-militancy operation, demanding that parliament must be brought into the loop about the new operation.

The Central Apex Committee on the National Action Plan (NAP) approved “Operation Azm-e-Istehkam” last Saturday, a reinvigorated and re-energised national counter-terrorism drive, to eliminate terrorism from the country.

In the interview, the defence minister underscored that the decision to launch a new operation was not made hastily, noting a significant surge in terrorist attacks across Pakistan prompted the government in that direction. He stressed that terrorism was linked to the country’s economy, asserting that improvement in economic conditions hinges on the eradication of terror threats.

“How can foreign investment come here without eliminating terrorism?” he questioned. Responding to inquiries, Asif mentioned militant elements operating from across the border, with some cells working within Pakistani territory. “Exporting terrorism from Afghan soil to our territory is a clear violation of international law.”

Asif on Thursday also announced that the government had decided to strictly enforce international laws at its borders with Afghanistan to curb the influx of militants and smuggled goods into the country. Pakistan has witnessed a jump in cross-border attacks on security forces recently, with militants employing advanced weaponry and equipment.

“All traffic from Afghanistan will only be permitted entry into Pakistan with a valid passport and visa,” Asif informed Geo News, hinting at the end of the longstanding practice of Afghans entering Pakistan without proper documentation.

US Election 2024: Following the debate, will Democrats unseat Biden?

image 203

US President Joe Biden’s debate performance has caused a stir among his own party which has begun questioning whether he should be replaced on the ballot before elections, CNN reported.

A top White House and campaign official for former president Barack Obama said: “There is a sense of shock at how he came out at the beginning of this debate. How his voice sounded. He seemed a little disoriented.”

“There are going to be discussions about whether he should continue,” David Axelrod said on CNN

Campaign and party officials noted Biden’s rubuke to Trump on January 6 attack as a moment where he hit his stride. They also noted his comments on climate change, arguing that he improved as the time passed.

Vice President Kamala Harris said that Biden made a “slow start” to the presidential debate.

A hoarse-sounding Biden stumbled over his words on several occasions during the debate’s first half-hour, but he found his footing at the halfway mark.

However, Biden still has support from Democratic officials as they continue to rally around him publicly and it would be nearly impossible to replace him unless he chooses to do so himself.

And currently, there is no known and serious effort to push Biden off the top of the presidential ticket.

However, according to CNN, Biden would have to step aside if Democrats were to pick another nominee and the nomination would be decided on the floor if he did withdraw.

An operative, who worked on campaigns for over a decade, said: “It’s hard to argue that Biden should be our nominee.”

Democrats were even sharing opinions on who might be Biden’s replacement. One of them even said: “If I was Gavin (Newsom) or Gretchen (Whitmer), I’d be making calls tonight.”

But Newsom said that he would “never turn” his back on Biden.

“Disaster,” one lawmaker told CNN. “Trump is coming off as reasonable even if he’s lying 60 miles per hour. Biden is unintelligible.”

“I think Joe is doing better than he did in the first 15 minutes, and Trump is just lying his way through the debate. But I wish Joe was a lot stronger punching back,” one lawmaker said midway through the debate.

They also question why the president missed opportunities to slam Trump’s comments, especially regarding the abortion issue.

YouTube ‘removed’ Chahat Fateh Ali Khan’s Badoo Badi — once again

image 202

Self-proclaimed singer Chahat Fateh Ali Khan’s joy of having his recently-popular track Badoo Badi back on his YouTube channel was short-lived, as it was once again deleted by the video-sharing platform.

The internet sensation, a day earlier, was rejoicing the return of his video that garnered nearly 30 million views after it went viral and was widely used in Instagram Reels and TikTok videos around the world.

According to the singer, soon after the strike on his video — placed after complaint by the official channel of the late legendary singer, Noorjahan — was lifted, the video was deleted again after it was reported for copyright infringement by another channel.

Earlier, after the video was first deleted, the singer had released another video of the same song, which also received a copyright strike. YouTube, however, did not delete the video but the impact of the strike stopped the it from being monetised.

Last week, the singer also released Bado Badi 2, the second rendition of his viral song on Eid-ul-Adha, but had decided not to upload it on YouTube.

Chahat told Geo News he will not be using the song on YouTube in order to avoid being in trouble again.

The new version features a new model and her name is not known yet. The original video had featured model Wajdan Rao who fell out with Chahat making accusations that the singer paid her only Rs5,000 for her work.

The Bado Badi 2 has been released on Chahat’s official Facebook, X, and Instagram accounts. Chahat said that he will be releasing a series of Bado Bado versions.

The first Olympic markswoman from Pakistan fires for a historic medal.

image 201

The 21-year-old Talat, who comes from a military family, is the first Pakistani woman to qualify for Olympic shooting.

“In Pakistan there’s a prevalent taboo that dictates girls should stay at home, do girly things, and play with dolls, while boys are to play with guns,” she said.

“I see no one as competition. I compete with myself,” she told AFP at a target range in the eastern city of Jhelum.

Talat has won dozens of medals at national level and four internationally, including Pakistan’s first shooting medal ever, a bronze, at the Asian Games last year.

Pakistan have only ever won 10 Olympic medals — all by men — and none since the 1992 Games.

Talat, who has just completed her university degree in communications, realistically faces an uphill task to get on the podium in Paris.

She has a global ranking of 37th in the 10m event and is 41st in the 25m, according to the International Shooting Sport Federation.

“I longed for recognition. I wanted to do more,” she said.

“I wanted that whenever shooting is discussed, or ‘Kishmala’ is mentioned, it would be associated with someone who did something great for Pakistan.”

Hoping to defy the odds, she spends 10 hours a day training — one hour of physical exercise and then four hours each on the 10m and 25m ranges.

The last hour in the evening is spent meditating, concentrating on the flickering flame of a candle in an attempt to hone the zen needed to find her target.

“I am dedicated to giving my best performance to let Pakistan’s name shine,” said Talat.

She takes her shots with her spare hand stuffed in her pocket and one eye covered by custom-fit glasses, her face frozen in expressionless concentration.

The sport of target shooting is not a common pursuit in Pakistan.

Cricket is by far the most popular pastime, but all sports suffer from chronic underfunding.

However, guns are omnipresent in Pakistan.

Swiss weapons research group the Small Arms Survey estimated in 2017 that there were nearly 44 million legal or illicit guns held by civilians in Pakistan.

The figure is the fourth highest globally and means there are 22 weapons per every hundred citizens in the nation of more than 240 million.

Talat’s talent has been nurtured by Pakistan’s military. Talat is trained by officers and a foreign coach at a military facility in Jhelum, known as “City of Martyrs” for its strong ties to the armed forces.

She hails from the garrison city of Rawalpindi, where the armed forces are headquartered.

Her 53-year-old mother, Samina Yaqoob, serves as a major in the military’s nursing service and proudly displays her daughter’s many medals in the family living room.

Yaqoob once dreamed of competing herself.

“I got married and got busy with that life, but it makes me happy when I see my daughter move forward with my dream,” she said.

“Girls should step forward, observe, work diligently and their parents should support them,” the mother said.

“She believes she can do anything. That’s just who she is.”

Pakistani musician and social activist Shehzad Roy shared an inspiring personal experience with a female attendant at a local petrol station in a post on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday.

In a video posted by Roy, a female attendant is seen filling fuel in his motorcycle at a local petrol station, a job typically dominated by male workers. Roy noted in his post that the video was recorded with the consent of the attendant.

“I went to put petrol in my motorbike and while switching off the bike and taking off my helmet, I heard a female voice say, ‘Nice bike, full tank, sir?’ I told both the girls that they are my role models and that they give me a reason to believe in Pakistan. Wah!” Roy wrote.

Roy’s admiration for the female attendant arises from the broader societal prejudice against women in male-dominated professions and the limited visibility of women in public spaces in Pakistan. Encountering a female worker in a predominantly male field prompted him to emphasize the critical importance of women’s participation in the country’s workforce.

As a social activist, Roy has consistently underscored the significance of involving women in education, various professions, and employment sectors for the country’s overall progress and prosperity.

Roy, known for his activism, has been a vocal advocate for women’s rights and welfare in Pakistan. He runs a non-profit organization named Zindagi Trust, which is primarily dedicated to promoting girls’ education in the country.

The NGO has adopted several government girls’ schools and has conducted numerous campaigns to raise awareness about the importance of girls’ education. Roy’s dedication to this cause highlights his belief that the active participation of women in education and the workforce is essential for the nation’s development.

This recent interaction at the petrol station is a testament to Roy’s commitment to recognizing and celebrating the contributions of women in traditionally male-dominated sectors. By sharing this encounter, Roy hopes to inspire others to appreciate and support the growing presence of women in all areas of the workforce.

Through his efforts with Zindagi Trust, Roy aims to create a more inclusive and equitable society where women can pursue their ambitions without societal barriers. The NGO’s initiatives have been instrumental in transforming educational opportunities for girls, advocating for policy changes, and improving the overall quality of education in Pakistan.

Shehzad Roy’s interaction with the female petrol station attendant serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of women’s participation in the workforce. His appreciation for her role challenges societal norms and underscores the need for greater gender equality in all professional fields. Roy’s ongoing advocacy for women’s rights and education continues to pave the way for a brighter and more inclusive future for Pakistan.
