Pakistani rupee trades at Rs 268.30 against the US dollar in interbank

image 16 4

The Pakistani rupee continued to decline on Friday, losing about Rs12 to the US dollar in the interbank market as the government loosens control over the currency in a bid to convince the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to release a delayed loan tranche.

The local currency moved up from Thursday’s interbank market close of Rs255.43 to Rs268.30 on Friday.

In response to an important demand from the IMF as part of a bailout deal put in place in 2018, forex providers loosened a cap on currency rates, which has caused the dollar to rise by Rs30.41 on the interbank market since Thursday.

The rupee decreased by Rs3 from the previous day to 265 to the dollar in the open market, according to the ECAP’s currency rates.

image 16 2

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali hinted at a potential election delay by saying that he does not see the province holding elections within the allotted three months.

The governor stated that 400 tribal elders had asked him to hold elections in three to four months during a meeting with journalists on Friday.

He said, “How would the elections be held if a province requests a census first or intelligence agencies suggest delaying polls?

The governor claims that 400 elders from amalgamated districts made together a tribal jirga that urged a census be conducted before to the general elections.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), on the other hand, voiced concerns about the prior census and threatened to boycott the polls, he continued.

K-Electric refutes the “false claims” against the previous director

467562 40812 updates

Asad Ali Shah, a former director, recently made a declaration through a letter that was “concocted and fabricated to tarnish the reputation of KE,” according to a statement from K-Electric (KE), which informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) that legal action had been taken against him.

The disclosure also highlighted a court plea, of which a copy has been obtained, that purports to contain a thorough denial of each of the claimed “material misstatements” made by Shah, the son of the former Sindh chief minister.

Shah alleged that the power firm had engaged in errors and had broken key accounting rules.

Such communication, however, “bends facts and suppresses crucial information causing damage and looks to be a purposeful, mala fide attempt to undermine the company’s reputation in the eyes of the public,” according to KE.

In order to demonstrate that the false claims of writing off bad debt as receivables from the Government of Pakistan are unfounded, KE highlighted a 2017 judgement of NEPRA on KE’s Multiyear Tariff.

Is the interior of the Earth rotating anticlockwise?

image 14

From where we are located on the surface of the planet, we can only view around 0.5% of it. The solid iron core of our planet, which lies deep below the crust, heated rock mantle, and liquid outer core, is one of the planet’s greatest mysteries.

A recent study suggests that the iron ball that makes up the inner core of the Earth may have just stopped rotating before abruptly reversing its rotational axis.

Although it could feel like the end of the world, scientists believe there is no need for concern. According to Insider, scientists don’t think it will significantly change life on Earth other from perplexing them.In order to determine how quickly the Earth’s inner core is spinning, Yi Yang, an associate research scientist at Peking University, and Xiaodong Song, chair professor at Peking University, analysed seismic waves from earthquakes that have occurred along comparable paths through the Earth’s inner core since the 1960s. The journal Nature Geoscience on Monday published their findings.

Against the dollar, the rupee falls to a historic low of 255 in interbank

Against the dollar, the rupee falls to a historic low of 255 in interbank

image 13 9

Due to the relaxation of an unofficial ceiling on the dollar exchange rate on Thursday, the rupee significantly declined against the dollar in both the interbank and open markets.

The rupee suffered its worst intraday loss in July 2022, more than Rs24, during today’s interbank trade.

Rupee experiences huge losses and falls to an interbank low of 255. Due to the local currency’s stability in the interbank market during the past few months and the fact that it did not fall as analysts had projected, many people believed that the government was in charge of the exchange rate.

The State Bank of Pakistan reported that the dollar finished the previous day at Rs230.89. But today’s intraday interbank market had the dollar priced at Rs255.

image 13 8

The International Cricket Council named Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam its ODI Player of the Year after another excellent season with the bat (ICC).

The 28-year-old has received the honour for the past two years running.

Babar had a year-ending total of 679 runs from nine matches at an average of 84.87, three centuries, and five half-centuries. He was at his very best with the bat in the 50-over game. However, just one game was free from a significant score.

His exploits have also assisted him in keeping the top rank on the Batter’s list since assuming the throne in July 2021.

He also led Pakistan to 8 triumphs in 9 games when serving as the team’s captain for the ODIs in 2022, with their lone loss coming against Australia in Lahore.

After that, Babar helped Pakistan defeat the visiting Australians and square the series at 1-1 with a century in just 73 balls in revenge. Babar made his quickest ODI century with this performance.

In addition to being crowned the “ODI Player of the Year” for his nearly perfect record, Babar Azam was recently elected captain of the ICC’s “ODI Team of the Year.”

The ICC awarded Marco Jansen “Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year,” Suryakumar Yadav “Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year,” Tahlia McGrath “Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year,” Richard Illingworth “Umpire of the Year,” and India’s Renuka Singh “Emerging Women’s Cricketer of the Year.”

The choice was taken in the course of a party consultation conducted at the Pakistan Muslim League House on Davis Road in Lahore.

Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, Shujaat’s brother, has been appointed PML-Q leader. At the meeting, Tariq Bashir Cheema, a close adviser to Shujaat, was fired, and Kamil Ali Agha was chosen to serve as the party’s central secretary-general.

The development came days after Shujaat had terminated Chaudhry Parvez Elahi’s basic membership due to his remarks regarding a potential merger with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

According to PML-Q leader and Minister for National Food Security Tariq Bashir Cheema, in response to the most recent action, Shujaat is still the party’s president and has the support of “serious members.”

Cheema stated during a news conference that Shujaat had already suspended Elahi’s membership and that he would explain “why such a drama is taking place” at the appropriate moment.

Twitter is being sued in Germany for its anti-Semitic content

image 13 6

According to a statement made on Wednesday, a group of Jewish students and an anti-hate speech organisation have filed a lawsuit against Twitter (TWTR.MX) in Germany, claiming the firm failed to take down anti-Semitic information.

HateAid and the European Union of Jewish Students criticised what they called a lack of moderation with regard to material that can encourage hatred.

Six posts that the groups claimed to be anti-Semitic were the subject of the complaint, which was lodged in a Berlin court but not removed despite being reported. The groups said that in one instance, the deletion of a post that denied the Holocaust was expressly rejected.

Denying the Holocaust is illegal in Germany.

HateAid and the EUJS stated in a statement that they were investigating whether Twitter users had the legal authority to enforce the service’s terms and regulations, which include not tolerating threats and abusive behaviour.

Requests for comment from Twitter did not immediately receive a response.

The Punjab Police detained Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday morning. He is the vice president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a former minister of communication.

According to a tweet from PTI leader Farrukh Habib, police have detained Fawad Chaudhry at his house in Lahore. He asserted that the new administration in a hurry started gathering up PTI leaders.

Prior to it, tens of thousands of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters gathered in front of PTI leader Imran Khan’s residence in Zaman Park, Lahore, early on Wednesday to protect him from a probable arrest by the Punjab police.

Many PTI personnel, including women, kids, and senior party officials, came to Zaman Park in response to the request issued via the party’s official Twitter account.

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry asserted that thousands of workers had only come here with a 30-minute notice while speaking to the media in front of Imran Khan’s house. The most popular politician in the country, Imran Khan, is being detained, he asserted, therefore that would constitute an attack on Pakistan.

Fawad Chaudhry stated that the arrest of Imran Khan would cause riots across the country of Pakistan. Imran Khan is our red line, according to Chaudhry. He said the people of Pakistan would back their beloved leader and put all the cities under lockdown.

The PTI lawmaker was taken into custody by Islamabad police in Lahore’s Defence A police neighbourhood, and he will probably appear before a magistrate in the Cantt courts.

Fawad’s temporary incarceration would likely be requested by the Islamabad police department from the local court.

According to media accounts, the event happened on Sunday of last week, but the police didn’t become involved. Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates are all Muslim nations who denounced the occurrence.

The Foreign Office released a statement that read, “It is unquestionably a provocative Islamophobic hate crime conducted under the cover of freedom of expression.”

The statement continued, “We also think that it is the duty of national governments and the international community as a whole to avoid such heinous acts, which are committed with the secondary intent of provoking and inciting religious enmity and violence.

IED attack in Bannu claims the life of a soldier

image 11

The military’s media wing reported on Monday that a security guard was killed in an IED attack in the Jani Khel neighbourhood of the Bannu region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) named the murdered soldier as Sepoy Gul Sher, a 24 year old Khyber district inhabitant.

As the armed forces fight against escalating terror, the military’s propaganda wing declared that “sanitization of the area is being carried out to eradicate any terrorists in the area.”

Attacks against security personnel and residents in general have grown as a number of militant groups have reassembled, posing a serious threat to the nation, which has fought terrorism on numerous occasions.

After the illegal Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) broke a cease-fire with Islamabad in November of last year, attacks mounted both inside Pakistan and from the Afghan border.

According to sources, the TTP has reunited in Afghanistan following the Taliban’s takeover, and Pakistan has repeatedly urged the neighbouring country’s interim administration to prevent terrorism from being committed on its soil.

However, the Taliban-led administration has fallen short of expectations.

According to statistics released by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, militant activity has been concentrated mostly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the former accounting for 31% of attacks during the past year and the latter 67%.

Despite the deadline having passed, electricity has not yet been entirely restored throughout Pakistan

LAHORE/KARACHI/QUETTA/ISLAMABAD: Despite the government’s 10 p.m. deadline having passed, there are still some areas of the country without electricity, which is affecting companies and the daily lives of more than 220 million people.

The interruption, which started at around 7:30 am and has already lasted more than 14 hours during the busiest time of the winter, has prompted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to urge an investigation.

The outage happened on a day in winter when Islamabad’s temperature is expected to drop to about 4 degrees Celsius (39°F) and Karachi’s to about 8 degrees Celsius (46°F).

The blackout, which Energy Minister Khurram Dastagir claimed was caused by a power surge, is the second significant grid breakdown in three months and adds to the nearly daily blackouts Pakistan’s population experiences.

Analysts and government representatives attribute the power issues to an outdated energy network, which, like much of the country’s infrastructure, is in critical need of an upgrade but which the government claims it cannot pay.

The energy minister tweeted that power has begun to be restored nationwide as darkness fell and households were left in the dark and without electricity. “We have experienced certain obstacles, but we will overcome these obstacles and restore the power,” Dastgir had earlier told reporters.

The goal is to restore electricity by 22:00 (10pm) local time, although far earlier restoration efforts are being made “The total restoration will be finished by tonight, the minister had promised, but later in the press conference he made the unspecified statement.

Dastgir quickly explained that the power producing units are momentarily turned down in the winter at night as a cost-saving measure to reduce fuel expenses following the earlier in the day reported power outage.

“Frequency fluctuation was seen in the southern region of the country between Jamshoro and Dadu when the systems were turned on one by one this morning at 7:30.”

“There was a voltage fluctuation, and cascade effects caused power generating units to shut down one by one. According to the federal minister, this is not a serious crisis.
