Innocence By: Dr. Maqsood Jafri Book: Songs of Humanity

Published by: Author House, Indiana, America in 2009
@
I found the fragrance of innocence and love
In the angelic smile of a babe, a gift of spring.
When we are children, we are all alike.
We make friends, without prejudice or greed.
We help each other in the time of dire need.
We are ignorant of racial or religious feuds.
Under the canopy of love, we are all one.
We use neither swords nor bombs nor guns.
As children, we greet each other with trust.
Friendship is our goal, our cherished ideal.
As adults, we sow the seeds of dissent.
We allow malice to grow in our hearts.
Conflicting ideas become the source of rancor.
In the name of religion, politics, and arrogance,
We bomb neighboring countries and leave
Innocent civilians choking on their own blood.
Return to childhood innocence so that we may
Leave the world intact for the children of tomorrow.

CPEC – a blessing and multipurpose umbrella for both Pakistan and China

By Chaudhry Muhammad Latif
Knowing the implications of friendship of China and Pakistan, the western powers including the USA had launched extensive publicity and propaganda against China on religious basis in fifties. Their purpose was to create distance between Pakistan and China, two neighboring countries, whose friendship had the potential to change their fate and future.
Pakistan recognized China on January 4, 1950, and established diplomatic relations with her in 1951. In his tenure as Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mr. Zulifqar Ali Bhutto made admirable and formidable contribution to bring China and Pakistan closer. As a consequence, the great leader of China, Mr. Zhou Enlie, as Prime Minister, visited Pakistan in 1964. In December, the same year, Pakistan’s President General Muhammad Ayub Khan, embarked upon his visit to China. Mr. Z.A.Bhutto steered the mutual friendship on the basis of two friendly nations and not just two countries. He mostly wore a close neck coat which became very popular in Pakistan as a token of love and respect for Chinese leadership.
In this bond of deep friendship, Zhou Enlie’s visit to Pakistan stands as the most critical and important event which paved the way for further strengthening the relations. The Jet which was presented to Chinese Prime Minister, Zhou Enlie in 1964, stands with dignity in Chinse museum. The arch enemies of Pakistan were shocked when the cooperation between two countries was developed to these heights like CPEC.
The cooperation between China and Pakistan ranges from economic to military levels. China has proved most reliable friend and has helped Pakistan at every difficult juncture, like 1965 war with India, in the East Pakistan tragedy 1971, at the time of nuclear explosion on May 28, 1998, in the calamity of earthquake 2005, in Corona epidemic 2019 they treated Pakistan as a part of China, and most recently in the financial crises threatening default.
In July 2013, the Chinese celebrated leader, the President of China Mr. Xi Jin Ping, launched the vision of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is the outcome of the said vision. The BRI and CPEC have completed a decade in 2023. It remained ideal global cooperation platform and strategic vision of China for global development. It is interesting to note that BRI has extended its activities in our brother Muslim countries of Malaysia up to Malaka Strait and Indonesia. CPEC is most important for Pakistan and China as our friends and foes are generally common.
The courageous initiative of CPEC was undertaken by great and popular leader of Pakistan, as Prime Minster of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, and Chinese President Mr. Xi Jin Ping in the year 2013. The objective was to shift the focus of cooperation from geo politics to geo economics. The BRI which aimed to revive the ancient Silk Road, is the central piece of Chinese foreign policy. CPEC is the principal component of BRI, intended to connect Pakistan’s Gawadar port city to China’s Xin Jiong region through a network of roads, railways, and pipelines. To sum up Sino-Pakistan relation ship which essentially emanates from the national interest of both countries, attributed as “Community of Common Destiny”.
Friends are tested and tied in calamities. Pakistan remained unilaterally fast friend of the USA since its inception. It joined defense pacts with them and thereby earned displeasure of Russia and faced the negative vetoes on Kashmir issue. Unlike, the USA created a perception of a false friend because a friend in need is a friend indeed. In 1965 war, instead of helping Pakistan being its ally, they stopped the supply of PL-480 wheat. In 1971 tragedy, the then ambassador of USA, Mr. Farland issued a policy statement at crucial stage that East Pakistan would not and should not be a part of Pakistan, and also the 7th Fleet never reached Dacca. Pakistan was again penalized for atomic explosion in May 1998. Despite havoc of floods in Pakistan, the IMF imposed preconditions unjustified by a lender to a sovereign country. The IMF, no doubt, follow the policy of USA.
In Afghan Jihad against Russia, the Taliban forces and volunteers from Pakistan were martyred together and Pakistan also hosted millions of refugees from Afghanistan. The result proved that the war was for the USA which became single super power. The USA supplied war equipment including stinger missiles. But the brunt and backlog had to be faced by Pakistan.
It was shocking for Pakistan when USA suddenly decided to destroy the Taliban Afghanistan who had made sacrifices for the USA. Pakistan was forced to participate in the USA war in Afghanistan. As a result Pakistan lost his sincere friends in shape of Afghan Taliban and it provided a platform for our enemies to sponsor terrorism in Pakistan. The USA, despite our countless sacrifices during the war in Afghanistan, was always demanded to do more due to trust deficit.
In this background the recent shift in our foreign policy to reconcile with Russia is justified to safeguard our national interest. At this juncture visit of Ukraine dignitary seems ans attempt to sabotage the national policy towards Russia. Pakistan has been subjected to discrimination in economic relations with Iran. India is allowed to trade with Iran but Pakistan is tabooed.

Aviation in Pakistan: Too Much Throttle, Very Little Thrust

Awais Qadir
Writer is an expert in aviation industry, wealth of experience encompassing contract negotiations, revenue optimization, and media management.
@awaisqadir5

Aviation in Pakistan has come a long way since its humble beginnings with just one airplane in the aftermath of the partition in 1947. Over the decades, the industry has grown significantly, both in terms of fleet size and economic value. However, despite the substantial investment and expansion, Pakistan’s aviation sector faces a unique set of challenges that have often left it with too much throttle and very little thrust.

Pakistan’s aviation industry had a modest start, with Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) being founded in 1955 as the national flag carrier. Initially, PIA operated with a single DC-3 aircraft, but it rapidly expanded its fleet, connecting domestic and international destinations. During the 1960s and 70s, PIA was considered one of the leading airlines in Asia, known for its exceptional service.

Today, the aviation industry in Pakistan has grown to be worth approximately Rs500 billion, contributing significantly to the country’s economy. It provides employment opportunities to thousands of people, from pilots and flight attendants to ground staff and maintenance crews. Furthermore, aviation facilitates trade and tourism, connecting Pakistan to the rest of the world. However, the sector faces a unique conundrum that limits its potential.

Pakistan’s geopolitical situation has resulted in significant security concerns, leading to increased costs for aviation security measures. These concerns have deterred many international airlines from operating in the country.

Despite the economic growth in the sector, some airlines in Pakistan continue to operate with aging and fuel-inefficient aircraft. This not only impacts operational efficiency but also affects the passenger experience. The aviation industry in Pakistan often grapples with regulatory challenges, making it difficult for airlines to expand and innovate. Frequent policy changes and bureaucratic red tape hinder progress.

Some Pakistani airlines have faced financial instability, leading to issues like flight cancellations and delayed payments to employees. These problems erode public trust in the sector. While PIA traditionally served as a bridge between Pakistan and the world, it has faced challenges in maintaining its international presence. This has limited Pakistan’s connectivity to global markets.

Despite these challenges, there are opportunities for Pakistan’s aviation industry to regain its momentum. Investments in modern aircraft, improvements in infrastructure, and a commitment to security can help restore confidence in the sector. Additionally, fostering a more favorable regulatory environment and strengthening the financial stability of airlines are essential steps toward progress.

Pakistan’s aviation industry has a rich history and tremendous potential. However, it currently faces a paradoxical situation of having too much throttle in terms of economic value but not enough thrust to soar to greater heights. To overcome these challenges, Pakistan must address security concerns, modernize its fleet, streamline regulations, and promote financial stability. With the right strategies and investments, the aviation sector can once again become a key driver of the country’s economic growth and global connectivity.

As oil transporters strike, a gasoline scarcity is anticipated

Due to an increase in supply through the while line pipeline, which transports petroleum products from Karachi to other areas of the country, oil transporters have gone on strike, halting the supply and distribution of petroleum goods throughout the nation.

According to the Oil Tankers Contractors Association (OTCA), the delivery of petroleum products has been suspended by up to 90% as a result of the strike. Suleman Tareen, a leader of the group, claimed that the oil transporter’s company has been severely impacted by the high level of gasoline delivery through the white line pipeline following the sale of diesel through this method.

As oil transporters strike, a gasoline scarcity is anticipated

We urge to the government for a part in operating the cars it has produced under the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) contract since the white line pipeline, which has been supplying gasoline since 2021, will kill our business, Tareen added.

In addition, OTCA wanted a price increase for the supply routes and forbade a five-year increase in the flow of petroleum products through the White Line Pipeline from Karachi to Mahmoodkot.

According to a story in The News, the oil carriers have asked for a quota from the white oil pipeline as well as 100% and 50% price increases on local and long routes, respectivel

The Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC) has urged for a solution to the problem while also warning the government that the supply and distribution of petroleum products may be restricted as a result of the oil transporters’ strike.

The OCAC wrote in a letter to Director General Oil, Petroleum Division, “We bring to your attention that the ongoing strike by oil transporters has resulted in a significant disruption in operations and distribution of petroleum products across the country.”

The loading of tank lorries at important terminals and depots in Karachi, where the majority of the nation’s oil imports are managed, has reportedly been negatively impacted by the strike.

According to Pakistan State Oil (PSO), “the loading of tank lorries has been severely affected due to the ongoing strike by the oil transporters and their unions at Port Qasim, Korangi & Keamari Terminal and Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has reported issues at these depots, Jaglot and Sihala Depot, which is further exacerbating the supply chain disruptions in the northern area of Pakistan.”

The OCAC requested that the government step in right away to ensure that tank lorries are continuously loaded at the depots in order to maintain a steady and reliable supply of petroleum products to all regions and prevent any negative effects of shortages in the nation.

PM Kakar emphasizes proper funding for developing countries at the SDG meeting

A NEW YORK Anwaarul Haq Kakar, the interim prime minister, said on Tuesday that while the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are being achieved, appropriate resources be given to the developing countries.

He stated, while participating in the SDG Summit Leaders Dialogue 6 on the topic of “Mobilizing finance and investments and the means of implementation for SDG achievement,” that only 12% of the SDG targets were on track eight years after Agenda 2030 was adopted, with the poly-crises of Covid, Climate, and Conflict having wreaked havoc on developing nations’ economies.

A “morally bankrupt” worldwide financial architecture has made the situation worse.

The Sustainable Development Goals Summit, which will be held on September 18–19, will celebrate the halfway point in achieving the 2030 Agenda.

PM Kakar emphasizes proper funding for developing countries at the SDG meeting

PM Kakar emphasized that Pakistan will demand climate justice at the upcoming CoP28, including the fulfillment of the commitment to deliver over $100 billion yearly in climate finance, allocation of this to climate adaptation, and the urgent launch of the Fund for “loss and damage”.

The inclusion of numerous proposals put forth by Pakistan and other developing nations in the SDG Summit Political Declaration was welcomed by the prime minister. These proposals included support for the Secretary General’s SDG Stimulus, early capitalization of Multilateral Development Banks, rerouting of Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) for development, and reform of the global financial system.

To guarantee the prompt execution of these accords, he suggested that the General Assembly form a Working Group.

Kakar emphasized the need for sufficient funding, voiced Pakistan’s support for the Global Development Initiative (GDI), and urged action in crucial sectors to meet the Sustainable Development Goals.

He praised the milestones reached in the execution of the GDI, the most recent of which was the effective formation of the Inter-Agency Task Force on GDI, and he reiterated Pakistan’s support for it.

In order to achieve the SDGs, Prime Minister Kakar emphasized the importance of China’s Belt and Road Initiative and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

In order to realize their shared goal of implementing the SDGs, he said Pakistan looked forward to strengthening its cooperation with China and the other members of the Group of Friends of GDI.

The top five contenders for the ODI World Cup 2023 are revealed by Kevin Pietersen

Kevin Pietersen, a former cricketer for England, has offered his perspective on the favorites for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, which will begin on October 5. Ten of the world’s best cricketing nations will compete in a round-robin format during the league round of this World Cup to display their skills. Afterward, the top four teams will proceed to the semifinals.

starting the competition
On October 5, New Zealand and the reigning champions England will square off in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium in the tournament’s opening match. India, the tournament’s host nation, will kick off their World Cup campaign on October 8 in Chennai against the five-time defending champions, Australia.

The top five contenders for the ODI World Cup 2023 are revealed by Kevin Pietersen

Pietersen, who was instrumental for his English team throughout the 2007 and 2011 World Cup campaigns, has shared insightful information on the likely front-runners for the next major international competition. The 43-year-old analyst recognized South Africa’s excellent position in his analysis following their series triumph against Australia. However, he stressed that India is the clear favorite, mostly as a result of the benefit of competing at home.

Pakistan was again mentioned by Pietersen as a serious threat in this World Cup. The cricketer from Pietermaritzburg acknowledged that England is a formidable contender but pointed out that they lag India in the category of favorites.

“South Africa’s victory over Australia elevates them to CWC challenger status. The main asset is Klaasen. India won the Asia Cup and is the favorite at home. Pakistan is a constant danger. ALWAYS! In terms of favorites, England is right behind India. Australia will be there or nearby as well.

Pakistan has not yet released their team for the 2023 World Cup, unlike India, Australia, South Africa, and England. The Men in Green are concerned about injuries since Naseem Shah’s shoulder ailment could limit his involvement and complicate their bowling attack. Cricket fans anxiously anticipate the matchups between these powerful teams on the international stage, which heightens the excitement for the World Cup.

Tim Southee of New Zealand will have thumb surgery before the World Cup

Prior to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, the New Zealand cricket squad has been handed a severe blow after right-arm bowler Tim Southee injured his thumb during their most recent One Day International (ODI) match against England on September 17.

The 34-year-old will have surgery, and it won’t be decided until next week whether he will take part in the major event.

Tim Southee of New Zealand will have thumb surgery before the World Cup

Southee injured his thumb while attempting to take a catch, breaking and dislocating it.

Tim Southee will have surgery on his fractured and dislocated thumb on Thursday, according to a statement from New Zealand Cricket (NZC), which was released on Wednesday.

Once the findings of the surgery are known, a decision will be taken about the senior pace bowler’s availability for the forthcoming ICC Cricket World Cup in India early next week.

Gary Stead, the coach of New Zealand, said, “We’re crossing our fingers that Tim’s surgery goes well.

It will be a matter of ensuring Tim can tolerate the pain and manage the actual wound when returning to train and play after having pins or screws placed in his right thumb, assuming the procedure is successful.

The natural target date for his availability would be October 5 in Ahmedabad, when we play England in our World Cup opener. We want to give Tim every opportunity to be a part of this World Cup campaign because he is obviously a tremendously experienced and vital character in our team, the coach continued.

The Kiwis have now dispatched their second side to play a three-match ODI series against Bangladesh, which is scheduled to start on Thursday, after playing a four-match ODI series against England.

However, despite being a member of the World Cup team, captain Kane Williamson is yet to participate in a competitive game following surgery for an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) he sustained during the 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

It should be mentioned that the Black Caps finished as runners-up in the World Cup after they were humiliated by England in the championship game on “boundary count” in 2019.

Nagorno-Karabakh Is Experiencing War Once Again Because the World Did Nothing to Stop It

Again, there is open hostility in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Azerbaijani defense ministry declared the start of a new military campaign on Tuesday, bombarding nearby communities and the nation’s capital Stepanakert without discrimination.

Aerial photos and videos taken in recent weeks have revealed that Azerbaijan has been building up its military force around Armenia’s and Nagorno-Karabakh’s borders. As a copycat of the Russian military’s insignia in Ukraine, the upside-down letter “A” on Azerbaijani military vehicles appears to be a threat to cut through Southern Armenia and secure the land corridor into Nakhchivan and to Turkey, as President Ilham Aliyev has demanded since the end of the 2020 war.

Nagorno-Karabakh Is Experiencing War Once Again Because the World Did Nothing to Stop It

The terrible humanitarian situation in this breakaway territory of the South Caucasus has been denounced by numerous international organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and foreign governments. Malnutrition and medication shortages are killing locals.

According to the 1948 Genocide Convention of the UN, the continued blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh and its 120,000 residents since December 2022, as well as frequent ceasefire violations by Azerbaijan, led the previous Prosecutor General of the International Criminal Court, Luis Moreno Ocampo, to label this as genocide.

A closer examination of the reality on the ground reveals that neither peace nor averting another war are options.

Azerbaijan started and won an unprovoked war in the fall of 2020 with support from Turkey, Pakistan, and Israel, regaining roughly 10,000 square kilometers of Armenian-controlled territory in and around Nagorno-Karabakh. Since November 2020, local self-defense forces and Russian peacekeepers without a wide international mandate or established rules of engagement have been patrolling the remaining 2,200 square kilometers.

Regular clashes along the international border between Armenia and Azerbaijan as well as on the Line of Contact in Nagorno-Karabakh have become the new standard. The Armenian government has announced that Azerbaijan had occupied around 150 square kilometers of its internationally recognized sovereign territory since May 2021.

Since October 2022, neither Russian nor unarmed European observers have been able to stop Azerbaijani incursions. The Azerbaijani government and different state-sponsored activists have started to talk more frequently since November 2020 about the state of Armenia standing in for “Western Azerbaijan.” It has long been an unofficial goal of Baku to repatriate Azerbaijani residents in Armenia and to dispute the nation’s right to exist. Armenia has now been cautioned not to criticize Azerbaijan’s racist remarks, which it uses for internal propaganda, in order to protect the prospects of a peace agreement. In the meantime, Aliyev has taken large areas of the Armenian highlands on the border and puts the population of the lowlands under fire—often literally—encouraged by this passivity of outside actors.

nagorno karabakh armenia azerbaijan

Following the election of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Armenia’s emergency parliamentary elections in 2021, the Armenian government began promoting a new narrative about a “peace deal” with Azerbaijan. Pashinyan has even openly proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh to be a part of Azerbaijan in order to satisfy one of Baku’s main demands.

The opportunity to try to bring about peace in the region was given to Russia, the EU, and the US by this backtracking. Most likely acting under coercion brought on by Azerbaijan’s threat of use of force, the Armenian leadership.

Security reasons will prevent spectators from attending the Pakistan vs. New Zealand exhibition game for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 on September 29 in Hyderabad.

They had asked for the game to be postponed, but because of the already crammed schedule, it was agreed to play it in the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium behind closed doors.

According to some sources, Shaheen and Babar had a verbal altercation in the locker room following the team’s defeat to Sri Lanka. Shaheen, however, just put an end to all the rumors by sharing a photo of himself and Babar on Instagram and X.

His “Family” caption was accompanied by a heart emoticon.

Prior to the World Cup, the rumors of a disagreement between Shaheen and Babar had worried Pakistani supporters because the green shirts primarily rely on their key players.

Recent media speculations state that all-rounder Shadab Khan is set to be replaced by fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi as the vice-captain of the ODI and T20I squads.

This shift is most likely to occur because Shadab Khan has recently struggled with his performance, which has been of worry.

Pak-USA Ties A need of time

By Jahanzeb Alam

Pakistan and the United States have shared a multifaceted and often turbulent relationship throughout their histories. This intricate association has been influenced by geopolitical interests, strategic alliances, and evolving priorities.

In the early years of Pakistan’s existence, it held significant strategic importance for the United States as a staunch Cold War ally. Its proximity to the Soviet Union made it strategically vital, leading to substantial military and economic support from the U.S. Pakistan was seen as a critical bulwark against communist influence in the region.

However, this close alliance suffered a severe setback during the 1971 Indo-Pak war when the United States sided with India, Pakistan’s longtime adversary, during the conflict that culminated in the birth of Bangladesh. This period marked a sharp deterioration in bilateral relations.

Throughout the 1980s, the United States expressed concerns about Pakistan’s nuclear program, resulting in sanctions imposed under the Pressler Amendment. The situation escalated further when Pakistan conducted nuclear tests in 1998, leading to increased international pressure.

The dynamics of the relationship shifted dramatically after the September 11 attacks. Pakistan emerged as a vital partner in the U.S.-led global war on terrorism. Pakistan provided logistical support and shared intelligence, particularly concerning neighboring Afghanistan. In return, Pakistan received substantial financial aid.

Despite this cooperation, mutual distrust persisted. The U.S. accused Pakistan of maintaining connections with militant groups like the Afghan Taliban and the Haqqani Network, alleging elements within Pakistan’s military and intelligence apparatus supported these factions.

The United States conducted drone strikes on Pakistani territory, often without Pakistan’s consent, causing public outrage and further straining relations. Violations of Pakistani sovereignty in these instances fueled anti-American sentiments.

As the U.S. gradually shifted its focus away from Afghanistan, there was a reduction in aid and military cooperation with Pakistan. Simultaneously, the United States sought closer ties with India, leading to a sense of marginalization for Pakistan.

U.S. assistance to Pakistan experienced periodic fluctuations, often linked to concerns about Pakistan’s commitment to counterterrorism efforts. During times of cooperation, the United States provided substantial economic and military aid.

Recent years have seen complex bilateral relations continue. Pakistan plays a role in facilitating peace talks in Afghanistan, yet tensions persist over issues like human rights concerns and Pakistan’s deepening relationship with China.

Despite the complexities, there are compelling reasons for Pakistan to prioritize efforts to improve its relationships. Strengthening these relationships can unlock significant economic opportunities, increase trade, and attract investments, ultimately boosting Pakistan’s economy.

Improved relations with neighbors like India and Afghanistan can promote regional stability by reducing tensions and conflicts. Effective cooperation with both neighboring countries and the United States is crucial in the fight against terrorism, ensuring Pakistan’s security and regional stability.

Collaborative efforts with neighboring nations on energy and infrastructure projects can address Pakistan’s energy deficits and enhance its transportation networks, stimulating economic growth and development.

Furthermore, cultivating positive relations with the United States can amplify Pakistan’s diplomatic influence on the global stage. Strong ties with a superpower like the U.S. can enable Pakistan to address international issues more effectively.

Enhanced relations can also lead to improvements in humanitarian conditions, including addressing refugee crises and facilitating the return of displaced populations.

To achieve these objectives, Pakistan should consider a range of strategies. Actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to resolve ongoing conflicts with neighboring countries, such as the Kashmir issue with India and border disputes with Afghanistan, is paramount. Promoting dialogue and negotiations as the preferred means for peaceful resolutions can foster trust and cooperation.

Pakistan should demonstrate unwavering commitment to counterterrorism by taking tangible actions against militant groups operating within its borders. This will engender trust and garner support from neighboring nations and the global community.

Fostering economic integration with neighboring countries through initiatives like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and regional trade agreements can stimulate economic growth and enhance stability. Encouraging informal diplomacy and people-to-people exchanges with the United States can help rebuild trust and strengthen cultural and educational ties.

Maintaining a balanced foreign policy that emphasizes both regional cooperation and global engagement is essential. Pakistan should avoid being drawn into regional power struggles that can strain relations with neighboring nations. Proactively working toward conflict prevention by addressing potential flashpoints through dialogue and confidence-building measures can also contribute to regional stability.

In conclusion, Pakistan’s pursuit of improved relations with its neighbors and the United States holds immense potential for economic development, security, and regional harmony. Diplomatic endeavors, conflict resolution, and a steadfast commitment to counterterrorism are fundamental steps in realizing these aspirations.

Tales of Separation and Reunion Reviewed by Dr. Maqsood Jafri

This is a booklet written by Qaiser Khan and published by Centre for Peace, Development and Reforms. Ms. Aniqa Moona belongs to Rawalakot, Azad Kashmir. She writes poetry in English and Urdu and is very much devoted to the freedom of Kashmiris from the strangulation and yoke of Indian hegemony and barbarity. I have read this booklet thoroughly as it engrossed my soul, captured and captivated my mind for its being a document of pain and sufferings of separation of the people of Poonch and Kashmir. District Poonch is divided into two parts. One part is under the control of India and the other is under the control of Pakistan. I was born in Indian administered Poonch. Poonch city is my birth place. My father Late Tehseen Jafri was an educationist and well known poet and public speaker. He took act part in the Pakistan Movement and delivered speeches in the whole Poonch mobilizing masses in the favor of freedom movement. In 1948, he migrated to Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Some of the presidents and prime ministers of Azad Kashmir such as Sardar Mohammad Ibrahim Khan, Sardar Mohammad Abdul Qayyum Khan and Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan were the students of my father in Poonch City before the partition of India.
There are some brief tales of the Kashmiris in this booklet who belong to divided District Poonch and Indian- held Kashmir. These seven sagas are deeply heart wrenching. On reading theses tales, the reader’s eyes are soaked with tears. One is grieved to read how people were separated from their kith and kin. A dividing line was drawn on both sides of Poonch called Cease Fire Line and later after Simla Agreement, it is called The Line of Control. Actually, this line drawn on the ground is the line drawn in the hearts of Kashmiris. The Poonch River divides both parts. The eastern bank of River is in Pakistani side, while the western bank is in Indian side. Mostly, the people gather at one side and welcome each other with gushing tears and warm sighs. What a human tragedy. The victims of separation are buried alive in the graves of miserable anguish and agony. If the son is on Pakistani side, the father is on Indian side. If the sister is on one side, the brother is on the other side.
The author has visited the people living near the border on Pakistani side and interviewed them. These interviews are heart breaking. In this booklet, the tales of Samad, Maasi Haseera, Master Saghir, Shreef Khan, Sabahat Abrar, Hafiz Mohammad Khan and Poet Sufi Mohammad Shareef have been written. These people belong to Pooch which is the Pakistan administered part. Especially, the tale of Maasi Haseera is deeply pathetic. The author has given the caption about her as “ Story of a Mother.” Amidst the crisis and chaos of partition in 1947, a family of nomads in a small village called “ Degwaar”, located in Poonch District of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Maasi Haseera lost her son. She was in the Pakistani side of the village while her son was in the Indian side of village. In her separation, she lost her senses. She used to murmur and roam around the streets. She died moaning and wailing. People made her tomb on the road side on her honor. On reading her story, my eyes rolled tears . What a great human tragedy. Shame on the on the so- called champions and stalwarts of human rights. Besides, theses pathetic tales there are two exclusive interviews
of the immigrant families of Kashmir. One is of eminent poetess and literary legend Ms. Sajida Bahar of Muzaffarabad, Azad Kashmir. This interview unveils many folds of Kashmiris tests, trials, tragedies, turmoils and tribulations. Her interview is like a beacon in the opaque and dreary nostalgic nights of pangs. Her parents lived in Baramulla, Indian occupied Kashmir. The other interview is of Late Justice Shareef Hussain Boukhari. He was separated from his family which lived in Kashmir. He lived in Lahore and through out life missed his mother, which he says that oftentimes he met her mother in dreams, till she was laid down in her grave. His interview is a hard slap on the fece of UNO, which has failed to resolve Kashmir issue according to the UN resolutions. It is the adamancy, expansionist designs and hegemony of India that on both sides of border people are suffering. The author appreciates the confidence building measures which were taken in 2005, and bus service was started between both sides of Kashmir. It was a way forward and welcoming step to temporary reunion of the people from both sides. This process also stopped. The fascist and dictator, the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has violated the UN resolutions on Kashmir and annulled the articles 370 and 35/ A of the Indian constitution and illegally annexed Kashmir with India. We need to highlight the violations of human rights in India Illegally Occupied Kashmir and mobilize world opinion against Indian aggression.
I would humbly beseech the author to kindly add one more tale in his booklet. That is the sad saga of my mother. In 1948, she migrated with my father and settled in Rawalpindi city from Poonch city, Indian held territory. Her all family remained in Poonch as no one of them migrated to Pakistan. I saw my mother always weeping bearing the cumbersome pain of the separation of her near and dear ones. Once, I saw her pulsating on the floor of the house like a fish out of water. I was a child. I mournfully asked my father as to why she was crying. He told me that a letter from Poonch city has come with a sad news that her father had died. Many a time, I found her crying on such news. Death news of sister and brother. She went to grave with tears and sighs. I am deeply pained when, her memories are recalled. Two days ago, I visited her grave and recited Surah Fateh with plaintive heart. My tears trickled on her painful life. Kashmir may be a territorial dispute or an ideological or a national issue for people, but for me it is an emotional issue as well. My two books titled “ The Plight of Kashmir” and “ Kashmir: Under Siege” published by National Book Foundation, Islamabad depict my sentiments about my birth place which I have never seen after the migration of my family.

Chaudhry Wali Joo family of Muzaffarabad – Champion of charity

By Chaudhry Muhammad Latif
I may state at the very outset that my objective of this article is not to seek projection of a particular family rather the purpose is that instead of begging from different countries of the world, we should approach the generous and philanthropist personalities of the Pakistani nation. The world is surprised to see our poor plight which is a country with a group of over wealthy people. While a major section of the society falls below the poverty line. The elite is alleged for evasion of payment of their dues as most of them stand pitched in the Assemblies and Senate being electables . If one patriotic billionaire of Sri Lanka could restore the financial position of his country, our billionaires could also change the fate and future of Pakistan.
At the same time the families who sacrifice for the nation must be respected and recognized by the society. So the description of Chaudhry Wali Joo family has been selected as an example. Chaudhry Wali Joou was like Chaudhry Zahoor Ellahi of Gujrat whose death was announced by the BBC in their Urdu Service Seirbeen with the remarks that champion of charity in Pakistan had died. The financial positon of Chaudhry Wali Joo in the year 1947 is evident from a cheque number 25661, dated 13-2-1947 amounting to 5000/- rupees in favor of Khawaja Wali Joo Sahib, issued by Jammu & Kashmir Bank Limited (Kashmir).
It was custom in British rule in India that each respectable person was registered by every Deputy Commissioner as Kursi Nasheen. Similarly in the State of Jammu & Kashmir the Maharaja Hari Singh had also enforced a law whereby respectables and notables of the state were designated and registered as Chaudhry by respective Deputy Commissioner. So, for the city of Muzaffarabad Khawaja Wali Joo had been designated as Chaudhry and thereby he was city father of Muzaffarabad. As such, his family is known as Chaudhry with all the qualities and generosity of Chaudhry Wali Joo. I am going to record and refer the admirable services and character which made Chaudhry Wali Joo prominent.
Once the Maharaja came to Muzaffarabad. The Maharaja had prescribed a costume for participation in the Darbar which was that of his Dogra family which did not suit Islamic teachings. It was pointed out in the Darbar meeting that local Chaudhry Wali Joo was absent. Maharaja ordered to produce him by all means in his Darbar. Accordingly Chaudhry Wali Joo was brought in the meeting and he was physically quite fit. Maharaja asked Chaudhry Wali Joo the reason of his absence. Chaudhry Wali Joo told him that the uniform prescribed for your Darbar does not suit Muslim values therefore he avoided to join the Darbar. The Maharaja declared there and then to discord the Darbari uniform and all participants were allowed to attend the Darbar in the dress of their choice. This was the devotion of Chaudhry Wali Joo for Islamic teachings.
Another dispute came up when the writer held the assignment of Registrar Cooperative. There was some misappropriation in a cooperative society in which rights of poor members had been usurped. In that case a very close relative of Chaudhry Wali Joo was involved. It was testing position for Chaudhry Wali Joo who too was a member of the society. I was astonished when I recorded the statement of Chaudhry Wali Joo who gave evidence against his close relative who also held very high political position. This was the caliber and character of Chaudhry Wali Joo in matters to truthfulness, integrity and uprightness.
Chaudhry Wali Joo used to distribute ration packages before every Ramzan Sharif for the poor and needy people of the city. Some years ago, my maid servant told that she would not come for duty the next day because she was to get ration from Chaudhry family which would be enough for her family for the month of Ramzan. The family of Chaudhry Wali Joo has upheld this tradition up to date.
The AJK civil secretariat was shifted to new complex in Chatter Domel. But there was no facility of transport for civil servants. The writer being Secretary Services was worried for lower staff. Therefore, Chaudhry Shamas Din son of Chaudry Wali Joo was requested by the writer to extend the facility of pick and drop by his Chaudhry Bus Service as the month of Ramzan was near in the hottest days of June. I was so obliged when Chaudhry Bus was made available to Civil Secretariat free of fare till we arranged new buses out of Benevolent Fund resources.
In 4-field mosque the Masjid committee decided to expand the mosque and replace the roof with lanter. I, being the president of Masjid committee went to cement shop owned by Chaudhry family at Tanga Stand. They promised to send the cement at requisite place. When the construction of mosque was completed the committee contacted the cement shop to send the bill. They replied that total amount had been paid by Chaudhry family and nothing was outstanding against the 4-field mosque.
The purpose of stating a few events of one family of Chaudhry Wali Joo shows that noble people are certainly available in our society, who should be motivated and mobilizeds and utilize own resources in Pakistan. Our leaders should generate confidence in the public and rectify the problem of trust deficit.
The writer is Retired Additional Chief Secretary and Advocate Supreme Court of AJK.

IHC notifies FIA regarding Imran’s request for bail in the cypher case

Imran Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), requested post-arrest release in the cypher case, and the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday sent a notice to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) regarding this request.

IHC notifies FIA regarding Imran’s request for bail in the cypher case

Chief Justice Aamer Farooq of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) heard the PTI chairman’s bail request. Imran’s attorney, Salman Safdar, made an appearance.

In response to the PTI chairman’s lawyers’ repeated requests for an expedited hearing, the court stated that the process is in place and the bail application will be set by next Monday.

The petition was served with a notice from the court asking FIA to respond by the next hearing.

A special court had rejected the bail plea of the deposed prime minister, after which he approached the Islamabad High Court.

The PTI chairman is in jail on judicial remand till September 26. The special court has sought a challan from the FIA in the case. Earlier, the PTI chief, in his petition, stated that the prosecution had filed a malicious and fabricated case. He argued that the special court, made to hear cases related to the Official Secrets Act, “completely ignored several of the prosecution’s irregularities and contradictions”.

A written order by special court judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain stated that the missing cypher case was a top-secret case, and the prosecution had “irrefutable evidence against Imran Khan and [PTI leader] Shah Mahmood Qureshi to prove their connection to the case”.

The court noted that “sufficient incriminating evidence is available on record to connect the accused with the instant case”. “[The] record further depicts that there appear reasonable grounds for believing that the accused/petitioners are guilty of the offence [under] sections 5 and 9 of the Official Secrets Act, 1923 in the light of the content of the instant FIR [First Information Report].

Additionally, there are good reasons to think that the petitioners and accused have committed an offense that is not subject to bail. A seven-page written order stated that “the record which is in color of various documents is sufficient for the purpose of discarding the bails of both the accused.”

In the judgment, the court also observed that despite its instructions from September 11th, the petitioners’ attorneys failed to address any errors in a certificate’s footnote.

“As a result, this court is forced to deliberate on the merits of the immediate bail applications as well as on compliance with the court order. Therefore, both accused parties’ instant post-arrest bail applications are denied.

Before facing a vote of no confidence on March 27, 2022, former prime minister Imran Khan had produced a piece of paper from his pocket that was supposedly a diplomatic cipher and waved it in front of a crowd in Islamabad, claiming it was proof of a “international conspiracy” to overthrow his administration.

After the PML-N-led coalition government announced an official inquiry against the former PM and his close associates for violating the Official Secrets Act of 1923 for illegal possession of the classified document public, the FIA launched its investigation into the so-called “cypher-gate” on July 19, this year.

On August 19, the agency detained Qureshi, who had been the nation’s foreign minister throughout the PTI’s leadership.

Imran was detained on August 29 as reported by the agency.

‘Jawan’ by Shah Rukh Khan surpasses the $100 million mark at the box office

The “Jawan” movie starring Shah Rukh Khan has surpassed the $100 million mark at the box office.

Red Chillies Entertainment, the film’s producers, reported that the movie has now made $103 million globally. The movie has made $68.5 million in India.

‘Jawan’ by Shah Rukh Khan surpasses the $100 million mark at the box office

After “Pathaan,” which debuted in January and earned $130 million at the box office throughout its run, and starred Khan as well, “Jawan” is currently the second-highest grossing Indian movie of the year. With $82 million, Sunny Deol’s “Gadar 2” is currently in third place, and Rajinikanth’s “Jailer” is in fourth place with $76.6 million.

“The Nun II” and “A Haunting in Venice” took the top two spots with $44.8 million and $37.2 million, respectively, while “Jawan” came in third with $17.7 million.

The Sept. 7 release of Atlee’s film “Jawan,” which stars Khan in a dual role as a father and son determined to fight corruption in Indian culture, broke the actor’s own Bollywood opening day record. The weekend before, it had the second-highest worldwide box office.

Khan has had a busy 2023; “Pathaan” served as a comeback for him after his underwhelming 2018 film “Zero,” and only appearances in the subsequent movies “Laal Singh Chaddha” and “Brahmastra Part One: Shiva” (all of which were released in 2022).

Amazingly, the celebrity has still got the year to go. He has “Dunki,” a film by Rajkumar Hirani that will be released around Christmas. With his blockbuster movies like the “Munna Bhai” series starring Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi, “Sanju” featuring Ranbir Kapoor, and “PK” and “3 Idiots” both starring Aamir Khan, Hirani has a reputation for consistently producing hits.

One of Bollywood’s greatest romantic actors is Shah Rukh Khan. But “Pathaan” and “Jawan” both fit neatly into the action category, while “Dunki” is anticipated to be a comedy-drama. Before Sanjay Dutt won the part, Khan was one of the actors being considered for Hirani’s 2003 breakout success “Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.”

Ashwin is back as India names their ODI team against Australia

The opening two ODIs will not include Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, or Kuldeep Yadav.

The team for India’s forthcoming three-match ODI series against Australia has been released, and it includes off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who last played in the ODI format in January 2022 against South Africa.

Notable players who will be resting in the first two ODIs include Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav. In Rohit’s absence, wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul will captain the team.

Axar Patel will also miss the first two ODIs due to a left quadriceps ailment he sustained at the Asia Cup 2023 final. On September 22, the first ODI in the series will be played in Mohali’s IS Bindra Stadium, home of the Punjab Cricket Association. The third ODI is set to take place on September 27 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot after the second game on September 24 at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.

Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar emphasized the need for these players to have a mental break in order to prepare for the major event when explaining the decision to rest important members of the World Cup squad right before the tournament.

“Rohit is stepping away. Some people are taking a break. Virat and Rohit have been in existence for ages. Hardik was present. also Kuldeep. In the Asia Cup, there was a decent quantity of cricket. In the third game, our starting players will play, and the guys need a mental rest,” Agar remarked in the news conference.

Agarkar also offered information on Axar Patel’s and Shreyas Iyer’s injuries.

If Iyer had chosen a stress fracture, he would not be on the team. He is currently healthy and should receive these three games. He did get a niggle, but he is currently healthy. Hopefully, Axar will be healthy, Ashwin provides expertise, and both Washington and Ashwin are available to serve as Axar’s backup. There is no reason to speculate right now; we’ll examine it when the time is appropriate,” he continued.

PTI: Report requested from the jailer at Attock for preventing the PTI president from speaking on the phone with his sons

Shiraz Ranjha, the PTI chief’s attorney, informed the court that his client had not yet been found guilty in the cipher case.

He said that the former prime minister was being held on judicial detention in Attock Jail. Even though the previous prime minister was acquitted in the case, he said, the culprits were still subject to the Official Secrets Act or the Punjab Jail Laws.

All of the defendants, according to attorney Ranjha, were able to communicate with their families through telephone. For the past three years, they had enjoyed the facilities.

He said that it was wrong to deny the PTI chairman access to the facility.

The PTI attorney requested a postponement of the case until September 26 and asked the court to hold the superintendent of the Attock Jail in contempt of court.

The decision was written by Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain in the open court. Shiraz Ranjha, a lawyer for PTI, asked that the hearing be continued until September 26.

The judge predicted that the PTI chairman’s judicial remand will end on September 26. He promised to speak with the jailer directly.

The judge later postponed the hearing until September 28.

Parvez Elahi is turned over to ACE by ATC on a one-day transit remand

Attorney claims that his client has been the target of political harassment since January and was immediately detained after being released

In a case of vandalism at the Judicial Complex, the Islamabad anti-terrorism court approved Chaudhry Parvez Elahi’s one-day transit remand.

Parvez Elahi was put on remand after the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment asked for it in the case involving the unlawful recruitment of Punjab Assembly members.

In response to the accusation that Elahi hired his employees, the defense attorney questioned whether a chief minister could not even hire his main secretary.

A chief minister has the authority to appoint his own personnel, according to attorney Sardar Abdul Raziq, who also stated that the lawsuit against Elahi was filed on Sunday.

Since January, his client has been the victim of political persecution, and he has also been arrested immediately after leaving court.

Judge Abul Hasanat Zulqernain of the ATC initially inquired as to when Parvez Elahi would be freed. The defense attorney objected to the transportation of his client between cities.

Parvez Elahi requested a suitable order in this regard and informed the court that he has not yet been permitted to meet his family.

The investigative officer responded to the attorney’s question by stating that the case involved vandalism at the Judicial Complex.

Elahi was sentenced to Adiala Jail until surety bonds were submitted.

The defense attorney said that the director general of anti-corruption made up accusations against Elahi all night long.

Elahi testified before the court that when a judge from the Lahore High Court inquired about if there were any cases against him, the prosecution said there weren’t any.

Parvez Elahi’s health should be taken care of, according to Judge Zulqrernain, so that things are made easier for everyone.

On the other hand, the Lahore High Court denied a petition challenging the district and sessions court’s authorization of Parvez Elahi’s physical remand.

The session court’s decision had been contested by the previous chief minister at the high court.
