Arshad Sharif murder inquiry halted, says commission head.

Sunday, the leader of an investigative committee appointed to investigate journalist Arshad Sharif’s murder declared the body couldn’t continue.

sharif's murder inquiry halted

On the evening of October 23, Sharif was reportedly murdered in Kenya by members of the local police force. An official police statement issued later expressed “regrets on the unfortunate incident” and said that an investigation was now being conducted into the matter.

Initially, the local police were cited in the Kenyan media as reporting that Sharif was killed by police due to a “mistaken identity,” and the media in Kenya reported this information.

Kenyan media subsequently reported that one occupant in Sharif’s vehicle at the time of his assassination fired at paramilitary GSU police.

A federal team investigated the killing. Initially, a three-member panel included FIA director Athar Wahid, Intelligence Bureau DDG Omar Shahid Hamid, and ISI Lt Col Saad Ahmed. Later, the ISI official was removed, reducing the team to two.

On Monday, the federal cabinet authorized the formation of a three-member panel chaired by retired judge Abdul Shakoor Paracha to “inquire into the facts” of the killing. Sharif’s mother rejected the committee and asked for a judicial commission from the CJP.

In a statement that was released today, Paracha said that he had told the government that the commission would not be able to go further with the investigation for the following reasons:

  • Dissatisfaction and rejection of commission by Sharif’s mother.
  • Request by Sharif’s mother to the CJP for justice.
  • DDG Hamid has already visited Nairobi as part of the first team to probe the death.
  • No media representative is part of the commission.

In his justification, Parachi said that it was not “legally sustainable that he (DDG Hamid) can be a part of the commission based on his previous findings.” This meant that DDG Hamid could not serve on the commission. In addition, he said that it was essential for there to be a media representation serving on the commission in order to ensure that “justice is not only served but is seen when done.”

In addition to this, he mentioned the request that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had made to Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial for a full judicial panel to probe the death of the journalist. “I believe that this has accomplished what it set out to do [for a commission],” stated Paracha.

DAR ES SALAAM: According to Tanzania’s national TV, a passenger plane crashed into Lake Victoria on Sunday while trying to land in blustery conditions at an airstrip in the lakeside city of Bukoba.

It was unknown how many passengers were on board the Precision Air flight or whether any people died, but fifteen people have so far been saved.

According to TBC, the plane “dropped in Lake Victoria this morning due to storms and heavy rains,” after taking off from the commercial hub of Dar es Salaam.

Only the plane’s green and brown tail was visible above the surface of Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa, in video footage and photos that went viral on social media.

26 of the 43 people on the Precision Air flight were saved and taken to the hospital at first.

The two pilots were able to talk to local officials from the cockpit after the crash, but the prime minister says they may have died since then.

Local fishermen and people trying to help have been trying to get to the people inside.

Because the aircraft went down close to the beach at the end of the runway at the Bukoba airport, rescue workers were able to wade into the water to get some of the passengers and crew members aboard the flight to safety.

When Abdul Nuri watched the jet crash into Lake Victoria, which is the largest lake in Africa, he was at the airport waiting for his trip to Dar es Salaam, the largest city in Tanzania, when it happened.

“We were really shocked. People panicked and some started crying and shouting,” he said to the BBC.

The tragic event, which took place at about 08:30 (05:30 GMT), has been attributed to adverse meteorological conditions.

The ATR-42 aircraft has been pulled considerably closer to the coast by emergency personnel with the use of ropes, and part of the plane’s body is now visible above the water.

Because of privacy concerns, WhatsApp will remove the View Once Message feature from the desktop.

WhatsApp will remove View Once Message from the desktop due to privacy concerns.

WhatsApp removing view once option

For privacy reasons, Whatsapp is no longer offering it’s desktop users the option to view once-delivered messages. A new function called screenshot blocking was launched by WA last month, and it prevents users from taking screenshots of their conversations. This was implemented after the view once messages functionality so that users couldn’t capture screenshots of their conversations. Whatsapp is eliminating the “view once” option for PC users because the screenshot-blocking feature is only available on mobile. Since November 1, this modification has been implemented.

A view-once message is only visible to the recipient, therefore if you open WA on your desktop, you won’t be able to see it. This means that you can no longer use it on the web/desktop version of WhatsApp, WhatsApp for Windows, or the beta version of WhatsApp for macOS (native catalyst app). You also can’t use the desktop site to send a view-only message at once.

However much WA tries to protect its customers’ privacy, some users will always manage to capture a snapshot of their conversations. Even after receiving a message on another phone, some people may attempt to snap a photo of your location. You should always think about the recipient carefully before sending a message.

All at once, these capabilities are being taken away. At some point in the future, desktop computers will no longer be able to transmit or receive view-once messages. The user’s privacy is protected by this function, as otherwise sensitive and confidential data may fall into the wrong hands. People are happy with the upgrade since WhatsApp is constantly striving to provide a pleasant and secure messaging environment for all users. It’s annoying when a desktop site won’t load a message, but at least you can still read them on your phone. Therefore, it isn’t really an issue.

Sardar Mir Balakh Sher Khan Mazari, a former caretaker prime minister and the chief of the Mazari tribe, passed away on Friday, according to reports from Dera Ghazi Khan. He was 94.

In recent months, he was receiving care in a Lahore, Pakistan, private medical clinic. He attended Aitchison College in Lahore after being born in 1928 in Kot Karam.

In 1951–1952, Mir Balakh Sher was one of the tribal chiefs who signed an agreement allowing Punjab to absorb nine Baloch tribal lands in the Koh-i-Sulaiman range.

After then-president Ghulam Ishaq Khan dismissed the government of Nawaz Sharif in 1993, he was appointed interim prime minister. The Supreme Court, however, quickly reversed the president’s decree and reinstalled Nawaz Sharif, effectively ending his time in office.

He was the tribal chief of the Mazari people who lived in the tri-state region of Pakistan (Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan).

Both his son, Riyaz Mazari, and his grandson, Dost Muhammad Mazari, a former deputy speaker of the Punjab Assembly, are currently serving in parliament.

His late brother, Sher Baz Mazari, was also a politician and thinker with a progressive outlook.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, meanwhile, has expressed his sadness at Mir Balakh Sher’s passing.

Mr. Mazari’s contributions to the country, he added in a statement, would be remembered for generations. He prayed that the deceased’s soul would find peace with Allah and that the family would find strength to grieve.

Following the PM’s visit to China, the government is considering a $13 billion package.

Government is eyeing a $13 billion package, Following the Prime Minister’s trip to China,

Government considers $13 billion deal after pm china's trip

ISLAMABAD:
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said on Friday that Pakistan has received a $13 billion financial package from China and Saudi Arabia, including $5.7 billion in fresh loans, which would assist stabilize the reserves and the rupee.

As a percentage of Pakistan’s projected gross foreign funding needs for the fiscal year 2022-23, the $13 billion package represents 38 percent.

In light of the IMF’s failure to produce a sizable financial package despite imposing a number of stringent criteria, its realization can remove the risk of default.

Dar told a gathering of journalists a day after his return from Beijing that Pakistan has asked China to roll over $7.3 billion in debt and provide a new credit of $1.5 billion.

Pakistan has requested a total of $8.8 billion in loans from China.

Dar revealed that he had also requested a fresh loan of $4.2 billion from his Saudi counterpart.

He further mentioned that the Saudi minister of finance has given “a favorable signal.”

Three eights of Pakistan’s projected gross external funding needs might be met by the combined value of financial assistance from China and Saudi Arabia. The government’s spending plan is meant to restore the rupee’s lost worth.

Dar stated that the real worth of the rupee, after adjusting for inflation, was less than Rs200 to a dollar, expressing his desire to see a higher value of the local currency without foreign infusion.

In response to a question, the finance minister indicated that the IMF had not yet settled on dates for the staff-level meetings. It was this month, though, that he had anticipated the visit to occur.

After Shehbaz’s first trip to China as prime minister, the minister returned from Beijing. Shehbaz spoke with both Xi Jinping and Li Keqiang, the president and prime minister of China, respectively.

According to Dar, the trip was a huge success and sparked new life into the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He claimed the Chinese leader had asked him to make a $1.5 billion loan through a currency swap during their talks.

The minister pleaded with China to extend the trade facility’s limit from 30 billion Yuan to 40 billion Yuan. After the expansion, the current $4.5 billion facility’s value of 30 billion would rise to $6 billion.

According to the State Bank of Pakistan, Pakistan paid more than Rs26 billion in interest to China in the fiscal year 2021 for using a $4.5 billion Chinese trade finance facility to cover the maturing debt.

The mother of Arshad Sharif requests an autopsy report from IHC

Arshad Sharif’s Mother requests an autopsy report from IHC on a murder case.

Arshad Sharif's mother wants IHC's autopsy report.
  • The petition says the family has repeatedly contacted PIMS management but they have neither provided report nor refused to give it.
  • Petitioner says she fears the autopsy will be altered to distort facts.
  • Says report should be given to family and not made public.

Arshad Sharif’s mother, Riffat Ara Alvi, has petitioned the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for her son’s autopsy report.

According to Riffat Ara’s petition, the family’s point of contact had requested the postmortem report from the appropriate authorities on November 3. They contacted the administration but were told the report had been sent to the police.

According to The News reporting, she added that the police had also rejected the family’s point person and directed them to the administration.

The petition states that the family has frequently contacted the administration of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), but they have neither given the report nor refused to do so. According to the appeal, Arshad Sharif’s family was “humiliated” by the PIMS and local authorities for being “kept in the dark” about the post-mortem findings.

According to the petitioner, they should be kept in the loop at all times to prevent any appearance of bias in the autopsy. Riffat Ara asked that there be no outside interference in the process and that the family’s designated point person be involved from the start.

The petitioner asked that the postmortem report for Arshad Sharif be given to his family and not made public without their consent. Arshad’s mom had already written a petition to Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial asking for a judicial commission investigation into her son’s death.

To “shield the case from controversy and political hypocrisy and ensure justice for the family,” she had pleaded with CJ Bandial. She said that the Kenyan police had altered its position on the journalist’s death “three to four times,” and she claimed that federal ministers “made stories” before the departure of the investigating team, some of which are on the public record.

So that “the feeling of uneasiness among the family members of Shaheed Arshad Sharif along with the journalism community is taken care of,” she has asked for the establishment of a high-powered judicial commission.

The mother of the murdered journalist stated this was her “first and the last letter, begging for justice in line with the law,” expressing the hope that her message would not be ignored in the same way that her son’s letter was.

“Otherwise, I rest my case to Allah SWT waiting for His justice,” she said.

In Karachi, the police break up Baton charges and tear gas at a PTI rally

Karachi police bust up a Rally held by the PTI, complete with batons and tear gas.

Karachi police disperse Batons, tear gas at PTI protest

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf protesters, including women, marched on the so-called red zone’ in Karachi on Friday for the second day in a row, this time in response to the alleged “assassination attempt” on former prime minister Imran Khan. Police responded with tear gas shelling and a baton charge.

The PTI attempted to rally in front of the Karachi Press Club, but the police detained several of its members, including women.

While over a dozen male workers remained in police custody, the police later claimed that the woman workers were freed shortly after incarceration.

In the afternoon, PTI Karachi president Bilal Ghaffar sent out a video message inviting party members, sympathizers, and all residents of Karachi to a protest on the main Sharea Faisal, next to the Nursery bus stop.

In response to the PPP government, the opposition party claims that it is “using harsh force in political vendetta.”

The workers gathered at the party office, known as Insaf House, where the leaders gave brief statements, outlined the protest’s strategy, and swore to maintain calm.

Minutes after the crowd gathered on Sharea Faisal, blocking off one lane of the main road, the party leaders made a declaration that they would be marching to the Karachi Press Club.

An overwhelming police presence moved in an attempt to halt the employees, but they were unsuccessful.

Following the nearly one-mile march, senior police officials attempted to negotiate with PTI leaders but ultimately failed. Near Regent Plaza, police used tear gas and batons to disperse the protesters.

Several protestors, including female party workers, were arrested and taken away in police vehicles. During this incident, PTI MPA Raja Azhar’s foot was hit by a shell, severely injuring him.

The government defended the police crackdown, claiming that PTI leaders were to blame for breaking the law by refusing to comply despite repeated warnings.

The SSP for the south, Asad Raza, said that the PTI members had broken the rules by holding their rally in the Red Zone.

We couldn’t allow the people to block the vital road unexpectedly and march on Red Zone, so we communicated with the party officials and pleaded with them to turn back calmly. In the end, the resistance provoked cops to taking action.

The leaders of the PTI said that the Pakistan Peoples Party had used “political vendetta” to justify the use of excessive force by the police.

They said that the PPP government did not even notice the women protesters.

“It’s a complete cruelty,” said Bilal Ghaffar, president of the PTI in Karachi and a member of parliament.

The PPP, which presents itself as a champion of democracy, “never gave women employees any consideration.”

He stated, “The Sindh police have become a political wing of the administration. But we won’t let that deter us. The protest movement will carry on as planned, and we will soon reveal our next strategy. Despite this savagery, we are a peaceful group that will not stand for the success of a plot that has been planned to provoke our employees.

Experts applaud the excellent visit of the prime minister Shehbaz Sharif to China

IR expert Dr. Rizwan Naseer: China is without a doubt Pakistan’s most reliable partner. The leaders of the two nations discussed their respective economic and strategic objectives during the Prime Minister’s recent visit to China. Special economic zones will be constructed in all of Pakistan’s provinces as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor initiative, which will boost the country.

Experts applaud the excellent visit of the prime minister to China

There will be employment opportunities for the residents of these places. The Chinese foreign ministry further confirmed that both nations have agreed to speed up the CPEC projects and will reap the rewards of this game-changing initiative. During his trip to China, the German Chancellor also showed interest in the Belt and Road Initiative.

Already over 70 nations are involved in the initiative, which will link Asia and Europe. China, another permanent member of the UN, has consistently backed Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir issue. The genocide of the Kashmiris in IIOJ&K and the treatment of minorities in India have alarmed the European Parliament as well.

Pakistan must actively campaign for support from the international community on the Kashmir problem.

Former Ambassador Najam us Saqib: The prime minister’s trip to China was primarily intended to improve relations between the two countries in all areas. China will continue to support Pakistan in the future, it is mentioned clearly in the joint statement following PM Shahbaz Sharif’s visit to China. The Prime Minister’s visit put an end to rumours that the CPEC project would take longer to finish than expected.

Both nations have mutually decided to advance development projects and broaden the project’s scope for the China Pakistan Economic Corridor. The ongoing development initiatives, such as ML-1 and special economic zones, have been studied and examined. The Chinese President Xi Jinping was also congratulated by the Prime Minister on being elected to a third term as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China.

She recently learned she has amazing potential and is appreciative of her accolades as she investigated the world of directing.”Direction was never something I thought about in particular, but because I was involved in other facets of filmmaking, I was undoubtedly aware of it as well. I had a few scripts that I had written and shared with my director buddies. She disclosed.

The director’s hat was originally put on by her, she said, “My friends were quick to answer that as it was my conception thus I should take the call.” The cherry on top was that my very first project received honours. She also discussed the career experiments she had undertaken. I’ve had practically every kind of job, and I was fortunate to get the opportunity to experience the Navras on television. Recently, I’ve had larger roles like Sheela in Gangubai and Ganga Devi in Jamtara-2 that have allowed me to fully explore my personality’s grey area. My favourite, however, is still Ankhon Dekhi.

The New York Times reported last week, citing U.S. officials familiar with a classified analysis that was scheduled to be delivered to Congress on Monday, Oct. 31, that the most recent incidents under review were caused by a combination of foreign surveillance, including relatively routine drone flights, and airborne clutter like weather balloons.

The Iranian foreign ministry’s spokeswoman, Nasser Kanani, denounced the murder attempt on former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan in a statement on Friday.

The spokesperson for the foreign ministry appealed to Almighty God for the former prime minister’s and the other victims of the incident’s injuries to recover quickly. However, the UAE also strongly denounced the attempted murder of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, reaffirming its support for Pakistan and its people in the face of terrorism and bloodshed.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC), the UAE strongly condemns these criminal activities that are against human values and principles and intended to undermine security and stability.

Recall that shots were fired at the long march container, injuring Senator Faisal Javed, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), former Prime Minister Imran Khan, and killing one. At Allahwala Chowk in Wazirabad, the firing incident took place during the long march reception camp.

Imran Khan, the chairman of the PTI, finally chose to speak out after being shot and hurt in an attempt on his life while perched atop a container during a long march. He said that he had been made aware of the impending danger in advance. While still a patient at the Shaukat Khanum Hospital in Lahore, where he is receiving medical attention for his wounds, Khan remarked during a televised address, “I had already discovered that there was a plan in place to assassinate me somewhere between Wazirabad and Gujrat.”

According to Imran Khan, “they utilised similar methods they tried employing against [former Punjab governor] Salman Taseer” when describing how “they” intended to kill him.To turn the people against me, they sought to accuse me of blasphemy, he claimed.Khan began his speech by criticising the current administration and bemoaning the fact that his administration was overthrown by a resolution of no confidence.

The coalition leaders “used money to become successful,” he said, adding that the PTI-led government also had the financial resources to engage in horse trading but refrained from doing so. “The government could have never lost the no-trust move, but they [the coalition leaders] used money to become successful.”

Sizewell C: UK Government denies new nuclear plant under review

UK government has stated that there will not be a new nuclear facility at Sizewell C.

UK declines nuclear plant review

A new nuclear power plant in the southeast of England is not being considered, according to the government.

According to a UK government official, as ministers aim to reduce spending, “including Sizewell C,” every big project is being reviewed.

However, Downing Street dispelled the notion that the plant will now be delayed or reassessed on Friday.

However, it is anticipated that a new high-speed rail route in the north of England will be drastically reduced.

Critics claim Sizewell C will be expensive to build and take years to complete, despite the fact that it is anticipated to meet up to 7% of the UK’s overall electricity needs.

In the 2030s, the facility is not anticipated to start producing power. It would be challenging to eliminate Sizewell C, though, considering it was a pledge made in the 2019 manifesto.

The prime minister’s spokesperson said on Friday that talks with private companies over finance had been “productive” and that negotiations were still going on. He added that it was “hoped to get an agreement over the line as quickly as possible.”

At the Autumn Statement on November 17, the new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is expected to announce the government’s tax and expenditure intentions.

The latest indication that recent undertakings by former Prime Minister Liz Truss were highly likely to be rolled back came from the new Business Secretary, Grant Shapps.

Ms. Truss promised to complete the construction of a significant rail project in northern England, with a high-speed link eventually connecting towns and cities from Hull to Liverpool through Bradford.

The Northern Powerhouse Rail rail line’s plans, however, are currently anticipated to be scaled back.

The commerce secretary said in an interview with the BBC that trips between Manchester and Leeds, for instance, have already been cut to 33 minutes, as promised in the Conservative party’s 2019 manifesto.

“Going and digging new tunnels across the Pennines wasn’t really necessary. It’s untrue to imply that we’re not doing what we promised to do about leveling the north, “added he.

Scaling back the rail route, however, presented “severe problems,” according to Henri Murison, chief executive of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership lobby organization.

“Our economy continues to suffer from the poor transportation infrastructure in the North, which also discourages private investment.

“This option currently saves little to nothing for the Treasury. Since Northern Powerhouse Rail is still in the early stages of construction, the great bulk of the necessary investments will not be made during the current expenditure review period.

What is Sizewell C and where will it be?

Sizewell C, which is slated to be built by the French energy giant EDF on the coast of Suffolk, has received the “full support” of both Ms. Truss and President Emmanuel Macron of France, who made the pledge last month.

The plant received approval from the government in July. According to EDF, there would be enough energy to power nearly six million homes.

A major component of the UK government’s goal to lessen the reliance of the UK on fossil fuels has been the construction of new large-scale nuclear facilities. While serving as prime minister, Boris Johnson revealed his ambition to erect eight additional reactors over the following eight years.

A departure from that stance would signify a significant shift in the UK energy strategy.

In the summer, Mr. Sunak ran for the Conservative leadership and vowed to support Mr. Johnson’s initiative to construct eight additional reactors.

In an effort to achieve energy independence by 2045, he also argued in favor of changing the licensing laws to allow the UK government to build more nuclear units.
