KARACHI: The alleged gang rape of a young girl in the provincial capital by flood victims was brought to the attention of the Chief Justice Sindh High Court (CJ SHC) on Wednesday.
According to the SHC Registrar, the Chief Justice became aware of the occurrence after reading about it in the news. On October 27 at 1 pm, DIG South was personally called before Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M. Shaikh.

He explained, “The PTI has asked to hold a sit-in at the Srinagar Highway. Khan had already made plans to visit D-Chowk prior to the court decision.
Rahman claimed that afterwards PTI leaders Fawad Chaudhary, Shireen Mazari, Sadaqat Ali Abbasi, Usman Dar, Shahbaz Gill, and Saifullah Niazi also called on party members to report at D chowk.
The court also requested Khan’s response to the plea for launching a contempt case against him.
The CJP noted as he asked the PTI chairman to clarify before the court who said what: “From Khan’s comments, it seems like he was briefed of the court’s directives as he mentioned that the SC ordered removing barricades.”
Referring to the conclusion of the PTI’s long march at Jinnah Avenue on May 26, Rehman said that Khan’s most recent request to travel to D-chowk constituted a violation of the court’s order.
He claimed that Khan “passed the restricted area H9 and reached Blue Area where he concluded the rally.”
According to the additional attorney general, PTI attorneys Babar Awan and Faisal Chaudhry gave the court their word that they would stay out of the restricted area.
Following this, CJP Bandial stated that since Rehman’s argument had some merit, it would be best to have a response from those who had provided assurance.
Justice Bandial stated at the hearing that Khan should provide an answer because the reports had sufficient support.
“It is not required for Khan to attend, even if a notice is delivered,” he declared.
The court merely wants the rule of law to triumph, the chief justice continued, not to grab headlines. When a show-cause notice in a civil contempt action is served, he continued, “one needs to appear.”
According to Justice Yahya, the court cannot request a response from anyone without prior notification.
The PTI leader should respond in light of these reports, according to the court, which also ordered to provide Khan access to the police, ISI, and IB reports.

Earlier in the hearing, AAG Rehman told the court that PTI has filed a miscellaneous appeal asking for an order to suspend the long march right now.
As he issued the summons to march, CJP Bandial noted that the plea had now become effective.
Justice Afridi commented that it would be preferable for the government to withdraw its request for orders to stop the long march in order to avoid any negative legal ramifications.
The SC is “neither an executive nor does it want to be one,” CJP Bandial stated. No one’s right to demonstrate can be taken away, he continued.
He emphasised, however, that the demonstration should stay within the bounds of the law.
The CJP noted that the circumstances of May 26 are unclear and said that the violation of the affidavit “has to be looked at prima facie in the context of the facts.”
At this point, the assistant attorney general asked for time to receive new instructions from the government regarding the plea and demanded that the long march of PTI be stopped.
The court granted the request and assured the administration that it may contact it if any problems arose prior to October 31.

ISLAMABAD: Although Covid-19 restrictions in Pakistan have been loosened, vice chancellor of the Health Services Academy Prof. Dr Shahzad Ali Khan warned on Tuesday that the virus may mutate more frequently in the winter.
Dr Shahzad added that this is the reason more and more people need to get vaccinated as soon as possible since the virus may impact those who have not received a vaccination. He encouraged the authorities to keep a closer eye on confirmed instances.
Speaking to attendees at an event called “Covid-19 Test and Treat Advocacy in Pakistan,” which was put on by Shifa Foundation Pakistan in association with Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND) and Unitaid, Dr Khan addressed the issue of cancer advocacy in Pakistan.
“In China, there is quarantine between cities, which means a person has to finish a quarantine of seven days before travelling to another city and then another seven days after arriving at the destination, even within the country,” he said. He added that mutation could be positive or negative but that stakeholders in the health sector should be prepared to deal with negative mutation.
Says virus may affect non-vaccinated people
“However, I want to stress that since unvaccinated people have a higher risk of mutation, everyone should get vaccinated, and those who have already had vaccinations should get booster shots. Increasing surveillance of positive cases is also necessary because they may contribute to the virus spreading quickly, according to Dr Khan.
Participants were informed that Shifa Foundation held several meetings with important stakeholders, including religious leaders, teachers, doctors, and community elders, to solicit their support in spreading awareness to encourage people to test and treat in centres already available at health facilities.

An orbital NASA sensor that was primarily created to further research airborne dust and its effects on climate change has also proven to be highly effective at detecting significant global emissions of methane, a powerful greenhouse gas.
Since it was installed in July on the International Space Station, the tool, an imaging spectrometer, has found more than 50 methane “super-emitters” in Central Asia, the Middle East, and the Southwestern United States, NASA reported on Tuesday.
Large landfills and widespread oil and gas complexes are two of the newly measured methane hotspots, some of which were previously recognized and others that were recently identified.
By measuring the wavelengths of light reflected off the surface soil in certain places, the spectrometer was initially constructed to determine the mineral composition of dust carried into the atmosphere from Earth’s deserts and other arid regions.
The Earth Surface Mineral Dust Investigation, or EMIT, by NASA, will assist researchers in determining if airborne dust in various regions of the world is likely to trap or deflect heat from the sun, so causing the planet to warm or cool.
Scientists at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in the Los Angeles area, where the instrument was conceived and constructed, have discovered that methane absorbs infrared light in a distinct pattern that the spectrometer in EMIT can easily identify.

Methane is believed to be released from the Turkmenistan plumes at a rate of 111,000 pounds (50,400 kg) per hour, which is comparable to the peak flow from the Aliso Canyon gas production blowout in 2015, which is one of the biggest accidental methane leaks in American history.
A waste-processing facility in Iran and an oilfield in New Mexico were two additional significant sources of emissions, each of which released almost 60,000 pounds (29,000 kg) of methane per hour. According to JPL representatives, neither was previously known to scientists.
Before the end of its year-long mission, EMIT, one of 25 Earth research instruments in orbit, may discover hundreds of methane super-emitters, according to NASA.
