South Korea’s Ko aims for return to form at women’s British Open

Ko Jin-young hopes to rediscover the form that catapulted her to the head of the world rankings in the Women’s British Open at the historic setting of Muirfield in Scotland.

The 27-year-old South Korean won two majors in 2019 during a meteoric rise in the women’s game and claimed five titles in scooping the majority honours on last year’s LPGA Tour.

But she has struggled to hit top form this season, her sole victory coming at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore back in March.

Ko recently spent time working with her coach back in South Korea, but a lowly finish at last week’s Scottish Open leaves her still a little mystified.

“But I am so thrilled to be here at Muirfield,” she said Wednesday on the eve of the tournament.

“I’ve always wanted to play the course and my (English) caddie told me how amazing it is.

“He’s right. It’s been a bit windy but it is very nice and I am really looking forward to the test. I think level par could win.”

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Ko hasn’t played in a British Open since 2019, when it was staged over the parkland Woburn course in central England.

‘Pressure’
But she has form on Scottish links having finished runner-up to Park Inbee at Turnberry in 2015.

“I do enjoy links courses and it’s nice to be back,” Ko added. “When I was a young girl I always wanted to be the world No 1 and I can’t really believe that I have made it. But there is a little bit of pressure.”

England’s Georgia Hall, meanwhile, is relishing a return to links golf.

Hall won the British Open at Royal Lytham and St Annes in 2018 and was joint-second behind Anna Nordqvist at Carnoustie last year.

“I have never been to Muirfield before but the British is always my highlight of the year,” said Hall. “I always have confidence playing on links courses.”

Muirfield has been host to 16 men’s British Opens but the club has not always been so welcoming to women and received widespread criticism with a vote to maintain an all-male membership policy in 2016.

Osaka makes a triumphant return with a three-set San Jose win

Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka made a triumphant return from a two-month layoff by defeating Chinese teen Zheng Qinwen on Tuesday at the WTA San Jose hardcourt tournament.
The 24-year-old Japanese star outlasted the gritty 19-year-old 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 in a first-round match at the US Open tune-up tournament.
Osaka had not played a competitive match since losing in the first round of the French Open due to a left Achilles tendon injury.
“It’s really cool to be back playing,” Osaka said after the victory. “I haven’t played since May. I didn’t know that. Somebody told me that. It’s really good to be back.”
Former world number one Osaka, whose ranking has slid to 41st, will next play in the second round against the winner of a later match between 18-year-old American sixth seed Coco Gauff, this year’s French Open runner-up, and Anhelina Kalinina of Ukraine.
The match marked the return of Osaka’s father, Leonard Francois, as her coach. She had been working with Wim Fissette for the past two years.
“It’s good for him to be back because he always makes me smile,” Osaka said. “It’s just good to be back so I’m really happy.”
In the first set of her return match, Osaka broke Zheng for a 2-1 lead, saved a break point to hold in the fourth game, and held from there to capture the first set after 45 minutes with a service winner.
World number 51 Zheng broke for a 5-3 edge in the second set and held at love on a service winner to force a third set.
Osaka broke twice for a 4-0 lead in the final set, denied Zheng’s fightback bid with a second-serve ace on a breakpoint, and held for a 5-0 lead.
After Zheng held, Osaka did the same to capture the match on a service winner after two hours and two minutes.
Reigning Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan lost Monday in her first match since capturing her first major title, falling to 12th-ranked Daria Kasatkina.

Dev Patel: Actor breaks up knife fight in Australia

Dev Patel successfully broke up a knife fight in Adelaide earlier this week, his representatives have confirmed.

The actor, who has starred in Slumdog Millionaire, witnessed the fight in Adelaide .

A man and a woman were reportedly fighting in the street and in a convenience store when the man was stabbed in the chest.

Patel’s spokesman said the star “acted on his natural instinct”. The man who was stabbed is expected to survive.

“We can confirm that last night, in Adelaide, Dev Patel and his friends witnessed a violent altercation that was already in progress outside of a convenience store,” representatives for Patel told BBC News.

“Dev acted on his natural instinct to try and de-escalate the situation and break up the fight. The group was thankfully successful in doing so and they remained on site to ensure that the police and eventually the ambulance arrived.”

Dev Patel’s journey from Slumdog to Lion
Copperfield’s colour-blind casting ‘felt natural’
Officers were called at around 8.45pm (local time), following reports of a man and woman fighting in the street, South Australia Police said.

The couple continued fighting inside a nearby service station where witnesses attempted to break up the fight, before the woman allegedly stabbed the man in the chest.

A 32-year-old man from Glengowrie was treated at the scene by ambulance officers before being taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

The statement from Patel’s team continued: “There are no heroes in this situation and sadly this specific incident highlights a larger systemic issue of marginalised members of society not being treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.

“The hope is that the same level of media attention this story is receiving (solely because Dev, as a famous person, was involved) can be a catalyst for lawmakers to be compassionate in determining long-term solutions to help not only the individuals who were involved but the community at large.”

Further details about the situation and the motivation of the alleged attacker have not been made clear.

Patel got his big break in British teen drama Skins and has also starred in The Green Knight, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Lion, for which he received an Oscar nomination.

Sri Lanka faces ‘great danger’ as the crisis drags

Sri Lanka faces a “great danger” with fuel shortages sparked by its unprecedented economic crisis set to continue at least till the year’s end, President Ranil Wickremesinghe warned Wednesday.
The 73-year-old, who was propelled to power last month after his predecessor Gotabaya Rajapaksa was forced to flee the country and resign after months of protests, said the financial meltdown had turned into a serious political crisis.
“Today we are facing an unprecedented situation that our country had never faced in recent history,” he said while opening a new session of parliament.
Tens of thousands of people overran Rajapaksa’s official residence last month over acute shortages of food, fuel, and medicines endured by Sri Lanka’s 22 million people since late last year.
Wickremesinghe said the only way to escape the crisis was “if we all face this challenge together as one people,” and asked all parties in parliament to join his initiative for a “unity government”.
Sri Lanka was considered a prosperous middle-income country before defaulting for the first time on its foreign debt of $51 billion in mid-April.
The country has run out of foreign exchange to finance imports with officials estimating the country urgently needs at least $4 billion to bring in essential goods and address current shortages.
Wickremesinghe has been leading talks with the International Monetary Fund to secure a four-year bailout program. He told parliament the negotiations were progressing but did not provide a timeline for when a deal would be finalized.
Motorists spend days waiting to buy rationed fuel while the country faces lengthy electricity blackouts. Inflation has crossed 60 percent. Wickremesinghe thanked India for granting credit lines to import petrol and diesel but said Colombo must be able to pay with its own foreign exchange earnings and that rationing would continue at least till the end of this year.
He also criticized Rajapaksa for rejecting two major infrastructure investments from Japan which could have brought in $3 billion. The cancellation of light rail transit (LRT) and a deep-sea terminal at the Colombo port also damaged the ties between Japan and Sri Lanka, Wickremesinghe said.
However, the pro-West Wickremesinghe did not refer to China which owns over 10 percent of Sri Lanka’s bilateral loans. Beijing’s agreement is crucial for any debt restructuring deal.

Hearing Canada Indigenous horror like being ‘slapped’: Pope

Pope Francis on Wednesday likened hearing first-hand tales of abuse at Catholic-run schools from Indigenous victims in Canada to being slapped.
Many children were physically and sexually abused at the schools, and thousands are believed to have died of disease, malnutrition, or neglect what Francis said after his Canada trip was “genocide”.
The pontiff returned Saturday from a six-day visit where he met representatives of the First Nations, Metis, and Inuit people to apologize for what he called the “evil” committed at Catholic-run residential schools.
“I assure you that in these meetings, particularly the last one, I had to feel — like slaps — those people’s pain,” Francis said during the weekly general audience at the Vatican.
The 85-year-old said hearing from “elderly people who lost children, who don’t know where they are” was “a painful moment”.
He wrapped up his Canadian journey Friday in the capital of the vast northern territory of Nunavut, Iqaluit, where he once again asked forgiveness for abuse at the 139 residential schools run by the church.
About 150,000 Indigenous children were sent there from the late 1800s to the 1990s.

Beyoncé removes Kelis sample and ableist slur on Renaissance

Beyoncé has updated her latest album, Renaissance, in response to criticism from fans and the pop star Kelis.

The song Heated has received a lyrical update, removing a slur that is often used to demean people with spastic cerebral palsy.

download 4 1

In place of the so-called “s-word”, Beyoncé now sings “blast”.

Meanwhile, a reference to Kelis’s hit Milkshake has also disappeared from the album, after the singer complained she had not given permission for its use.

The “la la la” hook from Milkshake was originally used in the background of Beyoncé’s song Energy. Those vocals have now been erased from the mix.

A drum sample – based either on Milkshake or an earlier Kelis track called Get Along With You – remains integral to the song.

The updates happened on streaming services including Spotify, Tidal and Apple overnight on Tuesday, just five days after Renaissance was released.

At the time of writing, the original versions remain on YouTube.

It is also too late to change the vinyl and CD editions of the album – although future pressings may contain the revisions.

Beyoncé to re-record offensive Renaissance lyric
New Beyoncé album a dance-floor hit with critics
Beyoncé came under fire from disability advocates over the weekend for including an ableist slur on Heated, which was co-written by Drake.

It came just a few weeks after another US pop star, Lizzo, apologised for using the same derogatory term in her song GRRRLS.

Both Lizzo and Beyoncé said they were unaware of the connotations of the word – whose links to cerebral palsy are less well-known in the US.

In a statement on Monday, Beyoncé’s publicist said: “The word, not used intentionally in a harmful manner, will be replaced in the lyrics”.

Make stoves, not war: Ukrainian blacksmith helps troops

stoves

Make stoves, not war: Ukrainian blacksmith helps troops. He’d hardly know a Beretta from a Bazooka, but Anton Zaika can sure find his way around a blacksmith’s forge — and he is helping Ukraine’s war effort in his own unique way.
The talented artisan had carved out a modest but successful business selling metal furniture to wealthy European clients, but the war came five months ago and changed his priorities.

Make stoves, not war: Ukrainian blacksmith helps troops

Now he makes anti-tank barriers to protect the local volunteer battalion in the northwestern frontline city of Sumy, and special iron stoves adapted to trenches to keep them warm.
His services come free of charge to the local territorial defence unit fighting the Russian invasion, and he has even started buying and converting beat-up old cars into makeshift armoured personnel carriers.

“After the first day of the war, there were no police anymore in the city and not much army,” Zaika, 32, told AFP at his workshop in Sumy, a city of 260,000 people just 25 kilometres (16 miles) from Ukraine’s border with Russia.

“So, we’ve mainly had a territorial defence. It was our citizens who took up arms and stopped the enemy from entering the city. I’m no good at weapons, so I did what I was good at to help them.”
Sumy, which can trace its history back to its founding by the Cossacks in the mid-17th century, found itself battling for survival from the start of Moscow’s assault on Ukraine in February.

Urban warfare
Almost captured by the Russians, the city quickly fought back over six intense weeks of fierce street-to-street urban warfare as part of a wider Ukrainian counteroffensive.
But it remained surrounded and bombarded daily by artillery — with trains and buses out of the city suspended, roads and bridges pulverised, and its population trapped, their food and water running dangerously low.

Air strikes continued into summer, as Russian ground forces made repeated attempts to retake the city. Zaika, who has run the business for seven years since learning the metalwork trade from his father, had hoped to build another workshop with around 25,000 euros of metal he had bought.
But he used up the entire stockpile within the first month of the war as he began getting requests for help from the local territorial defence unit.

He has since made more than 500 stoves for fighters but also to make life more liveable for people in bomb shelters and in nearby towns and villages where the gas supply had been knocked out by shelling.
Eventually, the public began to chip in, bringing materials they had found that could be put to use in the trenches or in military shelters.
‘Winter is coming
Zaika says he remembers one patriotic donor walking six kilometres in the snow with a stack of electrodes weighing around 20 kilograms (45 pounds).

Russia backs the Myanmar junta’s efforts to ‘stabilize’ the country, hold elections

Russia backs the Myanmar junta’s efforts to “stabilize” the crisis-wracked country and hold elections next year, its foreign minister said in talks with top generals on Wednesday, according to Russian state media.
The Southeast Asian nation has been in turmoil since the putsch last year, with the junta accused by rights groups of committing war crimes as it struggles to crush resistance to its rule.
Isolated internationally and with Western governments imposing sanctions, the military government has sought to deepen ties with major ally and arms supplier Russia — whose invasion of Ukraine it has said was “justified”.
“We are in solidarity with the efforts [by the junta] aimed at stabilizing the situation in the country,” Sergei Lavrov said during talks in Myanmar’s capital Naypyidaw, according to the TASS news agency.
“Next year, you will hold legislative elections and we wish you success,” Lavrov added, referring to proposed August 2023 elections that opponents of the coup have said will be neither free nor fair.
On Monday junta chief Min Aung Hlaing — who traveled to Moscow last month — said polls could only take place when the conflict-wracked country was “stable and peaceful”.
The putsch has sparked renewed fighting with established ethnic rebel groups in border areas, while dozens of civilian “People’s Defence Force” militias have also sprung up to battle the military.
Russia — along with ally China — has been accused by rights groups and a UN expert of arming the military with weapons used to attack civilians.
Lavrov and junta chief Min Aung Hlaing also discussed opening new consulates “to promote an increase in travel” between their two countries, TASS said.
The junta has yet to comment on Lavrov’s visit.
Lavrov is scheduled to travel on to an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) foreign ministers meeting in Cambodia from which the junta’s top diplomat has been excluded.
The bloc joined a chorus of international outrage last week after the junta announced it had executed four prisoners, including a former lawmaker and a democracy activist, in the country’s first use of capital punishment in decades.
‘Disappointed and disturbed’
ASEAN has been growing increasingly frustrated at Myanmar’s lack of progress on a five-point peace plan agreed upon last year. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen — the current ASEAN chair — on Wednesday warned Myanmar against further hangings.
He said the regional bloc was “disappointed and disturbed” by last month’s executions, and that the further use of capital punishment would mean a “rethink” of the five-point peace plan.
Isolated on the international stage, the junta has turned increasingly to allies including China and Russia.
Junta chief Min Aung Hlaing was in Moscow on a “private” visit in July and reportedly met with officials from Moscow’s space agency Roscosmos and nuclear agencies.
In Naypyidaw, Lavrov said Roscosmos would build “new infrastructure” in Myanmar in cooperation with the junta.
The army has justified its power grab by alleging massive fraud during the 2020 elections, in which Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) trounced a military-backed party.

Fourth Peruvian PM resigns in one year

In a letter sent to Castillo, who has survived two impeachment votes in 12 months and is the target of five criminal investigations, Torres said he was stepping down “for personal reasons.”

Torres posted a copy of the letter, in which he wished Castillo success, on Twitter.

His resignation will trigger an automatic cabinet reshuffle.

Torres, 79, first served as Castillo’s justice minister, and then took over the prime ministerial portfolio in February after three previous prime ministers had come and gone.

The country has had seven interior ministers since Castillo took over in July 2021 — a high turnover even for a country that is no stranger to political upheaval.

In five days of 2020, Peru had three different presidents.

Leftist Castillo — a rural school teacher who unexpectedly took power from Peru’s traditional political elite in elections last year — has been under nonstop fire from his right-wing rivals.

He also finds himself in the crosshairs of the attorney general’s office, with investigations into alleged public tender corruption and claims that Castillo plagiarized his university thesis.

Opinion polls show that three-quarters of Peruvians disapprove of Castillo’s management of the country.

Why certain heatwaves are more deadly than others

image 169

LONDON: Early data indicates that during last month’s record-breaking heatwave in Europe, England and Wales had roughly 1,700 more deaths in only one week, while 1,700 more deaths were recorded in Portugal and Spain.

The findings provide the first evidence of heat-related deaths when temperatures from London to Madrid reach close to 40 degrees Celsius or more, but they are expected to vary when data are updated.

The data for England and Wales, which the British Office for National Statistics released on Tuesday, compares the number of fatalities that were reported between July 16 and 22 to what would be predicted for the same time period based on 5-year mortality trends.

The World Health Organization’s estimate for the Iberian Peninsula is equally tentative. However, the numbers from July were well below the 70,000 deaths attributed to heat during a heatwave in Europe in 2003.The following are a few of the reasons why some heatwaves are deadlier than others.

After Trick Me singer Kelis accused her of “theft,” Beyoncé appeared to have taken the sample out of her recently released song Energy.

Stunning Beyoncé

According to Rolling Stone, the fifth song from Beyoncé’s Renaissance album on Tidal and Apple does not contain a sample of the singer’s 2003 song Milkshake.

image 166

According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, Kelis’ sample is still present on the track that has received criticism on Spotify.

Kelis’

This is in response to the 42-year-old singer’s Instagram comment on a fan page that shared a photo of the two musicians and wrote, “@Beyonce’s Renaissance album will include a @kelis sample on the song “Energy.”

Before writing, “My mind is blown too because the level of disrespect and utter ignorance of all three parties involved is astounding,” Kelis added, “It’s not a collab, it’s theft.”

“Like everyone else, I learned about this. Nothing is ever exactly as it seems, and some people in this industry are soulless and dishonest, she continued.

She then responded to claims that she was “jealous” of Beyoncé by posting video statements on the app owned by Meta.

image 167

“The truth is that I don’t really have a beef with Beyoncé alone because, at the end of the day, she sampled my song and has done it before. Many other artists, including her, have also done this before. I don’t care about that, it’s fine,” she remarked.

“The problem is that there aren’t that many Black female artists in the industry, even though we are female artists. We know each other, have met, and have friends in common. It’s not difficult. She is reachable, right? Kelis tacked on.

Babar Azam’s reign is in jeopardy as India’s Suryakumar Yadav draws closer, according to a new ICC T20 ranking

jeopardy

Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, is in danger of relinquishing his spot as the best batter in T20 cricket to Suryakumar Yadav, who is closing in on the top spot.

The Indian player moved up three positions on the list to take the second spot among batters according to the most recent ICC T20 rankings. With only two points separating him from Babar, he now has 816 points.

 India

During the T20I series between the Men in Blue and the West Indies, the Indian batsman has been in outstanding form for his team. As a result, he has earned a good ranking on the list.

His rapid rise has been fueled by a century against England in Nottingham last month and a stylish half-century against the West Indies on Tuesday, despite only making his international debut at the beginning of last year.

jeopardy as India

Given that India still has two games left to play in their five-match series against the West Indies, Yadav will likely have the opportunity to surpass Babar at the top of the standings over the upcoming week.

image 157

Since Pakistan’s next T20I match is against India at the Asia Cup at the end of the month, if he performs well in those games, he may surpass Babar as the top-ranked batter.

Veteran Pakistani Mohammad Rizwan dropped to third place after losing one position.

8 economists who determine whether the US is in a new recession are?

President Joe Biden stated that the economic data overall “doesn’t sound like a recession” despite the US Commerce Department’s announcement that the country’s gross domestic product had declined for the second consecutive quarter.

economists

Most nations define a recession as two consecutive quarters of GDP contraction; however, in the United States, the Business Cycle Dating Committee, an independent group of eight economists, determines whether or not a recession has occurred.economists

image 151

The largest economy in the world’s GDP shrank by 0.9 percent on an annualized basis in the most recent quarter, the Commerce Department reported on Thursday. This would lead the government of many nations to declare that a recession had begun in the economy. however, not in the US.

Shortly after the Commerce Department report was released, President Joe Biden told reporters that the new data “doesn’t sound like a recession to me” because of low unemployment and strong job growth.

image 152

For France, for instance, the same GDP figures would be sufficient to declare a recession. A recession is defined as “a decline in Gross Domestic Product over at least two consecutive quarters” by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) of the nation. The same definition is used by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

On Thursday, Biden and senior White House officials emphasised a number of positive aspects of the US economy, such as the fact that businesses are still hiring, the unemployment rate is at a 50-year low, and businesses are still making investments.economists

image 153

Eight economists

Japan is the only other democratic country that does not follow the OECD definition of a recession. There, the Japanese government “is the referee, but the government departs from the automatic two-quarter rule and considers other indicators” such as employment or consumption, said Harvard economist Jeffrey Frankel in a 2019 talk on the American economic exception.

In Japan, the democratically elected government calls the shots. But in the US, the arbiters of recession are just eight economists who form an independent group called the Business Cycle Dating Committee, part of the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER).economists

According to the NBER, a recession is defined as “a significant decline in economic activity that is spread across the economy and lasts for more than a few months.” Therefore, the committee takes into account a variety of factors, including the unemployment rate, wage levels, and investment.

These judges not only decide whether the US economy is in a recession, but they also have the authority to declare one to be over.economists

a politically touchy subject
The economy is always a very delicate political subject in Washington, especially since voter concerns about it may cost Biden’s fellow Democrats the midterm elections in November.

In both the House of Representatives and the Senate, Democrats currently hold a narrow majority. The midterm elections, however, could be disastrous for the party if history is any indication — just as they were during the first terms of Democratic former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

Republicans and conservative political commentators are holding Biden responsible for the state of the economy by pointing to declining GDP figures, rising prices, and a slowing housing market. According to Reuters/Ipsos polling, the economy has a 36 percent approval rating for the president, a record low.economists

Biden heard conflicting accounts of the US economy even in a meeting with people chosen by the White House. Wendell Weeks, CEO of materials science company Corning, said to Biden that the company’s sales to television and computer manufacturers indicate a slowdown in consumer spending.

Although domestic demand has continued to increase, US job growth in the first half of the year averaged 456,700 per month. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits slightly decreased, according to Labor Department data released on Thursday.

According to Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, “It doesn’t make sense that the economy could be in a recession with this kind of thing happening.”

A laissez-faire executive and a socialist economist
According to the US business magazine Forbes, the American exception to the rule regarding recession detection dates back to the immediate aftermath of World War I and the unlikely friendship between Nachum Stone, a socialist economist, and Malcolm Rorty, a chief statistician at the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T), who was renowned for his laissez-faire philosophy.

The only economic concept on which the two could agree was that the US needed a body that could establish some undisputed facts as a foundation for economic discussion.

Thus, the NBER was established in 1920 as a standalone organisation with the mission of bringing the best minds in the field of economics together to find solutions to urgent problems like how to measure growth rate.

According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, the epicentre of the quake was located 103 kilometres northwest of Bela. Meanwhile, it measured a depth of 33 kilometres.

This was the second time that an earthquake struck the province within a week. On July 31, another quake measuring 5.6 magnitudes struck several parts of the Makran Division of the province, while tremors were felt in the Gwadar, Pasni, Ormara, and Kech areas as well.

Fawad Chaudhry to government: “Banning Imran Khan, PTI is not up to you

image 140

Fawad Chaudhry, the leader of the PTI, said on Wednesday that “it is not up to you” to ban Imran Khan or the party in response to the government’s statement that it may file a declaration against the party in the Supreme Court.
His comments came after Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah stated that the government might declare PTI to be a foreign-aided party to the Supreme Court based on confirmed evidence, adding that if the high court accepts this declaration, “the party will stand disbanded.”

The party would appeal against the judgement of the Election Commission of Pakistan, according to Fawad, who also stated that a reference has been filed against Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.

Fawad claimed that the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision was against the law and the Constitution and that a reference had been filed against Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja. He also stated that the party would appeal against the judgement.
The ECP ruled in unanimity the day before that the PTI got funding from “prohibited” sources.

A demonstration outside the ECP office was also announced by the PTI leader.

Prior to the announcement of the results, he said that parties associated with the Pakistan Democratic Movement alliance had “meet the chief election commissioner.”

ISLAMABAD: Members of the ruling coalition have dubbed party leader Imran Khan everything from a liar to a corrupt foreign agent to a money launderer and have called the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision in the prohibited funding case of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) a “charge sheet” against the party.

Tuesday, the PPP Chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-spokesman Zardari’s said the verdict proved the former premier was a corrupt person who was running his political party under the name of Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif maintained the ECP decision declared Mr. Khan a “certified liar” for submitting false affidavits.

After the ECP issued its ruling on Tuesday morning, the prime minister tweeted, “The ECP verdict on PTI foreign funding case charge-sheets Imran Niazi for violating the Constitution, providing false affidavits, and taking foreign money.”
Following the ECP decision, former prime minister and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif urged the federal government to take “urgent legal action” against Imran Khan from London, claiming that Imran used to deliver “lectures” about honesty to his audience.
He is actually the largest thief in history, according to the ECP’s ruling today.

Imran Khan has now been proven to be a “foreign agent,” according to PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, who also took potshots at the PTI leader.

Hasan Ali is dropped when the PCB releases the squads for the Asia Cup and the Netherlands trip

image 138

Hasan Ali was dropped in favour of Naseem Shah when the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released its rosters for the T20 Asia Cup and the ICC World Cup Super League ODI matches against the Netherlands on Wednesday.

The PCB unveiled a roster of 16 players for the three-match series against the Netherlands that will begin on August 16 and a squad of 15 players for the Asia Cup that will start on August 27.

In both the ODI and T20I teams, Shaheen Shah Afridi, who is recovering from a knee injury, has been kept. The PCB states that the team trainer and physiotherapist, who will also decide on his comeback to international cricket, will oversee his recovery regimen.

Chief Selector Muhammad Wasim claimed that the administration had merely altered the roster as needed.

We chose our best available players after consulting with the captain and head coach because both contests are crucial to us.

Wasim added that Hasan had been replaced by Shah and given a vacation from playing international cricket.

The top selector stated that Shah is extremely quick and can help the fast bowling department, which currently boasts players like Haris Rauf, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Shahnawaz Dahani.

He continued by saying that although Naseem hadn’t participated in any international white-ball matches, he had shown on the red-ball his prowess as an aggressive pacer with the ability to swing the ball.
