China disputes NASA’s claim that it will seize control of the moon.

BEIJING: China on Monday rejected as an irresponsible smear a warning from NASA’s director that China might “take over” the moon as part of a military program, saying it has always called for the creation of a community of nations in space.

Over the last ten years, China has accelerated its space program with a focus on moon exploration. China’s first unmanned lunar landing took place in 2013, and by the end of this decade, it plans to launch rockets capable of carrying astronauts to the moon.

In an interview with the German newspaper Bild, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said: “We must be very concerned that China is landing on the moon and declaring: “It’s ours now and you stay out.”

image 54

According to the head of the US space agency, China’s space program is a military one, and China has stolen concepts and technology from other countries.

Zhao Lijian, a spokesman for the Chinese foreign ministry, stated: “This is not the first time the head of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration has ignored the facts and spoken irresponsibly about China.”

“The US side has continuously built a smear campaign against China’s normal and reasonable space endeavors, and China firmly opposes such reckless remarks,” the US side has said.

He claimed that China has consistently supported the development of a shared future for humanity in space and opposed its militarization and any space arms race.

NASA intends to launch a crewed mission to orbit the moon as part of its Artemis program.

Unmanned missions to the south pole of the moon are being planned by China for this decade.

Prince Harry, who is “petrified,” retaliated by “throwing toys out of a pram.”

According to reports, Prince Harry has become increasingly “petrified” of The Crown’s future plans for Megxit.

Russell Myers, the royal editor for the Daily Mirror, asserted this in a Lorraine interview.

In response to The Crown’s intentions to reveal Megxit in their upcoming episodes, he charged that the Duke had “thrown his toys out the pram.”

When host Lorraine Kelly questioned Mr. Myers about whether Prince Harry was pleased to be a part of The Crown, the topic of conversation came up. Who knows if they can do it without him or if he can be written out of it.

image 53

In response, Mr. Myers fessed up, “Well, I’m not sure. The authors have already stated that they will not continue all the way to the present.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could see everything that has happened regarding Megxit, Harry and Meghan, and the major saga that is currently taking place?

Harry has been putting his foot down and refusing to be featured, reportedly having a big deal with Netflix.

The British Army’s Twitter and YouTube accounts have been restored following a hack.

LONDON – The British Army reclaimed control of its Twitter and YouTube accounts on Sunday after they were briefly hacked and used to promote cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens.

“Please accept our apologies for the brief interruption in our feed. We will investigate thoroughly and learn from this incident “According to a tweet from the @BritishArmy Twitter account. Previously, the account retweeted several posts about NFTs.

image 50

Additionally, the army’s YouTube account, which had been renamed “Ark Invest” and featured a number of videos about cryptocurrencies, was returned to its prior state.

Currently, it has 177,000 subscribers to its YouTube channel and 362,000 followers on Twitter.

A large international investment company is called Ark Invest. An email and website comment request was sent to the company, but there was no immediate response.

robots

Perhaps soon, robots will be able to detect cancer.

Robots with the ability to “sniff” hidden illnesses, surprising ones like cancer, by smelling a person’s breath could make disease detection easier in the future.

Researchers are looking for methods to identify diseases by analyzing chemical compounds in patients’ breath, sweat, and even tears. According to experts, these chemicals act as diagnostic “fingerprints.”

Researchers explain that the robot will never be made commercially available and refer to the idea as “volatolomics.”

image 49

The nose comes into contact with volatile organic compounds, which have a low boiling point and quickly evaporate when we smell anything. These are the metabolic byproducts of the human body that can be expelled in one way or another.

For a variety of reasons, including communication, reproduction, and even defense, all organisms release VOCs. Similar to how it does when it becomes ill, the body also releases VOCs in response to biological changes.

A systematic review and meta-analysis conducted by a team of Dutch researchers revealed that electronic noses (e-noses) have a high level of diagnostic accuracy for the detection of cancer in exhaled breath.

Exhaled breath samples can be analyzed using GC-MS, which combines gas chromatography and mass spectrometry.

One study, for instance, claimed that ovarian cancer has specific markers.

52 publications that included more than 3,000 cancer patients were analyzed for the review article on Hospital Healthcare Europe. These publications included patients with lung, gastric, breast, and prostate cancers.

Scientists claim that although volatolomics is a recent concept, the idea has been around for centuries. But back then, there was no technology available for experimentation.

Scientists can put their knowledge to use with machine learning and artificial intelligence. Nanomaterial sensors, for example, can detect VOC fingerprints in food, beverages, pollution, and people.

The findings were published in Nano Research and Hospital Healthcare Europe.

The largest star in the Milky Way is dying.

The largest star in the Milky Way, VY Canis Majoris, is slowly dying as astronomers watch helplessly.

Although they are powerless to save the dying star, scientists can learn more about what happens to red hypergiants after they die thanks to this observation.

The largest star is VY Canis Majoris, a massive red hypergiant that is 1,000 times bigger than the Sun. Because such stars are extremely uncommon, scientists know very little about what happens to them after they die.

image 48

Astronomers used to think that stars died and then exploded into supernovae. However, they now think that it might not be the case after tracking molecular emissions from stars.

No red hypergiant, including the largest star in the Milky Way, has yet been completely mapped out, according to researcher Lucy Ziurys from the University of Arizona.

According to Ziurys and the other scientists, dying hypergiants like this one could become black holes.

Trade groups call on the government to lower power prices for Karachi

In order to save businesses, export production, and the livelihoods of millions of people, representatives of eight trade and industrialist associations held a joint press conference on Sunday at the Karachi Press Club. They urged the government to act quickly to ensure that industries in Karachi have access to affordable electricity.

The associations urged the federal government to direct the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) to supply domestic gas to K-Electric (KE) at rates authorized by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and to make sure that the natural gas allocation policy adhered to both literally and figuratively.

image 47

They believed that millions of people living in Karachi were being unfairly and discriminated treated, which could have a negative impact on the economy and the vast population of the nation.

Both Karachi’s common people and industrialists are finding it more and more difficult to afford electricity. If this inequality is not addressed, it is feared that the deteriorating situation may result in unemployment, which could spark social unrest throughout the city.

Federal B Area Association of Trade and Industry

Bin Qasim Association of Trade and Industry, Surjani Association of Trade and Industry, Pakistan Association of Large Steel Producers, Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers, Pakistan Tanners Association, All Karachi Ice Factories Welfare Association, and Sind Paper Mill Forum were among the associations with representatives in attendance.

It was emphasized during the press conference that starting in September 2021, KE will start adding significant Fuel Charges Adjustments (FCA) to the monthly bills of industrial and residential customers. The FCA is a pass-through expense that is paid for by end-users throughout the city and takes variable fuel prices into account.

Free electricity for households using up to 100 units of energy: CM Punjab

Hamza Shahbaz, the chief minister of Punjab, declared on Monday that the provincial government would cover the electricity costs for households that use up to 100 units of electricity per month.

The Punjab government will cover the utility costs for customers who use up to 100 units of electricity, according to the chief minister, who was speaking to a press conference in Lahore.

The relief program, which will assist nine million households, has been allocated Rs100 billion by the government. This will encourage people who use more than 100 units of electricity to conserve energy, according to Hamza.

image 46

The chief minister added that those in need will receive solar panels from the government.

CM Hamza added that Pakistan will receive assistance from friendly nations and that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Programme will continue. He promised that “the economic situation will be back on track.”

Berating the PTI, the chief minister said that the nation will hold the party leaders accountable. “The PTI government ruined the economy and Imran Khan has to give an account of the foreign funding, Toshakhana, and Farah Gogi’s corruption of billions of rupees.”

Talking about the Punjab by-polls set to take place on July 17, CM Hamza said that the PML-N will come out on top.

A Cuban resident claims to be seeping ‘fully clothed in case of building collapse.’

HAVANA: In the Cuban capital, where collapses are common, Elisa Bacyan, a resident of one of the roughly 700 apartment buildings deemed unsafe, says, “When we go to sleep, it is with the fear of not waking up again.”

Bacyan, 51, and her 12-year-old daughter Lesyanis live alone in the 1940-built “Edificio Cuba” in an older neighborhood.

Like the majority of structures on the socialist island, the six-story structure is owned by the Cuban State. It has 114 tiny rooms that 92 families can live in without paying rent.

According to the locals, it was once a luxurious hotel.

image 45

Today, the floorboards are cracked, the ceilings, columns, and walls of the passageways reveal bent metallic skeletons, and there are numerous cracks and leaks.

With tears in her eyes, Bacyan stated that kids “cannot even play here because every now and then a portion (of building) comes down.”

Buildings collapse completely or partially in Havana shockingly frequently due to oversight and maintenance issues, which is exacerbated during the hurricane and rainy season from June to November.

In 2020, a balcony gave way, killing three young girls.

According to official media, this year’s first June rains caused 146 buildings in the capital to partially collapse and two to completely come down, resulting in the death of a 69-year-old man.

Who will come after who is unknown?

According to official data, by the end of 2020, about 37 percent of the 3.9 million residential buildings in the nation were deemed to be in a bad condition.

Bacyan’s residence, “Edificio Cuba,” had “structural defects from floor to ceiling,” according to a building expert who spoke to AFP but asked that his name not be used for fear of retaliation.

The recommendation is against residing there.

Ghost World Exhibition: Crowds from Taiwan Visit to See Ghouls and Spirits

TAIWAN: Countless people have been drawn to an exhibition in Taiwan by hopping vampires from China and disembodied flying heads and organs from Thailand, scandalizing religious groups who have demanded the show be canceled.

On the day of the opening, thousands of people lined up outside the Tainan Art Museum on the island’s south-western coast, and ticket sales had to be temporarily suspended twice to prevent crowding.

A large portion of the display in the show, which includes traditional artifacts, works of art, and popular culture about the afterlife in various Asian cultures, was taken from a French museum.

image 43

Visitors line up to mimic the grasping, outstretched hands of three life-size statues of Chinese hopping vampires, which are reanimated corpses with stiffened limbs that can only move by bouncing.

image 44

“I expected a lot of people to come, but not this many,” Lin Yu-chun, the museum’s director, told AFP.

Lin stated that the Covid-19 pandemic has made discussions about mortality more prevalent in Taiwanese society in recent years, despite the fact that it is generally considered a taboo subject in Chinese culture.

“Many of us have been directly impacted and faced death,” she explained.

“I have never seen so many people here, not since the pandemic began,” said Su, a vendor whose shaved ice stall is next to the museum.

“It had to be at least a kilometer long,” she added.

Visitors can see Thai ghosts, such as krasue, a bodyless female ghoul with glowing viscera hanging below a floating head, as well as drawings of Japanese underworld spirits and works by Taiwanese artists, once inside.

“Asian ghosts tend to be more feminine, there are more female ghosts,” Lin explained, whereas “western ghosts, such as the vampire, tend to be stern-looking.”

Though the show has captivated large segments of the population, it has alarmed religious groups.

When the exhibit was first announced, a Christian church in northern Taiwan criticised it and called for its cancellation, saying online that it “defiled the country and people,” according to local media.

Other organisations, including some Taoist temples, warned that it was spreading superstition.

According to local media, the museum had prepared 1,000 protective charms to distribute to show attendees in order to ward off bad luck.

Babar Azam: Spinners were Pakistan’s “key” to victory in Sri Lanka.

Babar Azam, Pakistan’s all-format captain, stated on Monday that he thinks spinners will be crucial in Sri Lankan conditions as the Men in Green prepare for a two-match Test series there later this month.

Yasir Shah, Nauman Ali, and Mohammad Nawaz, left-arm spinners, will be crucial for them in Tests against Sri Lanka, according to Babar, who stated this in a press conference prior to departure.

From July 16 to July 28 in Galle and Colombo, Pakistan will play a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.

The first game will be played from July 16 to 20 at the Galle International Cricket Stadium, and the second game will be played at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo from July 24 to 28.

image 42

“Yasir has rejoined our team, and he is in good shape. The other two crucial options for us to prevail in Sri Lankan conditions that typically favor spinners are Nauman and Nawaz “Babar, who was frequently spotted bowling during scenario-based practice matches in Rawalpindi, said.

“We’ve done a good job of preparing for the spin game. Sri Lankan conditions resemble those in Pakistan quite a bit. On rotating tracks in Lahore, we practice sweep shots with our batters “Added him.

Suggestions from Shoaib Akhtar
Shoaib Akhtar, a former Pakistani speedster, met fast bowlers while at the national team’s spring training.

Babar claimed that Akhtar’s encounter with pacers gave them a lot to learn. Shoaib Bhai gave our fast bowlers some helpful advice, Babar told a reporter.

“I think our pace bowlers can succeed in any circumstance. I’m hoping and anticipating seeing how they perform in Sri Lanka “Added he.

harbhajan singh

On the Indian spinner’s birthday, Shahid Afridi and Harbhajan Singh’s rivalry is recalled.

The competition between the national teams’ players is as well-known as the Pakistan-India rivalry. One such rivalry involved former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh and ex-Pakistani captain Shahid Afridi.

Twitter users, who celebrate Harbhajan’s birthday on July 4 and cut the cake that day every year, revived the rivalry by posting pictures of Afridi’s ferocious batting during an Indian rival’s over during a Test match that year in Lahore.

Afridi hit four huge sixes in a row in the 136th over, which Harbhajan was said to “keep in mind for the rest of his life.” Afridi had 90 runs on 69 balls by the end of this over.

Imam-ul-Haq is employed by the Somerset County Cricket Club

Imam-ul-Haq, a Pakistani opener, was signed by Somerset County Cricket Club on Monday for the remaining four games of the current LV= Insurance County Championship season.

The Pakistani Test batter will replace Australia’s Matt Renshaw in the league as an overseas player, subject to receiving the required NOC (no objection certificate) and visa, according to a statement released by Somerset.

By the end of August, the Australian cricketer is expected to return home to start domestic pre-season practice with his Stateside Queensland team.

image 40

Imam, who is 26 years old, has played for Pakistan in 14 Test matches, with the best score of 157 against Australia earlier this year.

His track record in First-Class is equally impressive. The left-hander has played in 57 games and amassed over 3500 runs at an average of 41.69, with the highest total of 202 not out.

Andy Hurry, the director of cricket for Somerset, is thrilled to have signed a “talented” Pakistani player.

Imam-Ul-Haq is a superb batter who will bring excellence and a wealth of experience to our environment, according to Hurry.

Since international cricket is heavily played during this significant time, he claimed that the club’s ability to bring in a seasoned Test match player for the final LV= Insurance County Championship matches of the season is a coup for it.

“We have a working extended relationship with the PCB, and we appreciate them helping us sign a player of this calibre. On and off the field, we are incredibly excited about what he will bring to the Club, the official said.

Imam is eager to join the Club at a later date in the year.

“Babar Azam and Azhar Ali have told me a lot about Somerset’s quality. It is a reputable club that receives a lot of support. I’m excited to represent the county at the County Championship and help some deserving teams win “said the cricketer.

“English County Cricket will present me with a new challenge, but one that I am relishing, “Added he.

Ricky Martin responds to social media claims of domestic violence

image 38

Allegations of domestic violence against Ricky Martin have recently been refuted, leading to the issuance of a restraining order on Friday.

Domestic Abuse Prevention and Intervention Act

A complaint was made under Law 54 (Domestic Abuse Prevention and Intervention Act), according to PEOPLE, by an unidentified petitioner.

I Don’t Care singer, however, referred to the claims as “false and fabricated” on Twitter on Sunday.

The protection order against me is based entirely on untrue allegations, so he wrote, “I will react through the court system with the factual information and the integrity that categorize me.”

image 39

The claims made against Ricky Martin that resulted in the protection order are wholly untrue and fabricated. We have every confidence that our client Ricky Martin will be fully vindicated when the real facts about this case come to light, they said.

A judge will decide whether or not to uphold the order, according to police spokesman Axel Valencia, who provided additional information. Ricky is not permitted to speak with the person who filed the complaint.

On the other hand, El Vocero, a Puerto Rican news source, was cited by the Independent as saying that the singer-former songwriter’s partner, whom he had dated for seven months, had filed the complaint.

Turkish monetary policy reaches 78.6 percent, a two-decade high.

Official data released on Monday revealed that the annual rate of inflation in Turkey in June soared to 78.6 percent, the highest level in 24 years, as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s unconventional economic policies continued to have an impact.

The state statistics office of Turkey reported a figure that was the highest since January 1998.

At the beginning of last year, inflation was 15.0 percent, and it was 73.5 percent in May.

On Friday, Nureddin Nebati, the minister of economy, “promised” that consumer prices would begin to decline in December.

According to the data, the cost of transportation increased by 123.4 percent, and the price of non-alcoholic beverages increased by 94 percent.

According to the statistics agency, the cost of household goods increased by 81.1 percent.

image 37

Erdogan forced the central bank to implement a series of interest rate cuts last year, which is when Turkey’s economic crisis began.

Despite an increase in consumer prices, the policy rate decreased.

However, the Turkish leader disagrees with conventional economic theory and asserts that rising interest rates drive up prices.

For the second time in a year, Turkey significantly increased the minimum wage on Friday to lessen the impact on households.

The nominal minimum wage has increased by almost twice as much since the end of last year with the increase in net monthly take-home pay to 5,500 liras ($330).

In late December, it was 2,826 liras, and in January, it was 4,253 liras.

Economists caution that raising the pay of a sizable portion of the population will cause inflation and should be accompanied by increases in interest rates or other spending restrictions.

According to official statistics, more than 40% of Turks were employed at minimum wage at the beginning of the year.

dua 1

Recent medical reports indicate that Dua Zahra is between 15 and 16 years old.

According to the medical board’s assessment of Dua Zahra’s ossification and dentition, the adolescent, who vanished from her Karachi home in April but was later discovered to have wed Zaheer Ahmed in Lahore, was between 15 and 16 years old.

Before the hearing of a case filed by Zahra’s father Mehdi Ali Kazmi for the determination of her age, a 10-member medical board on Monday submitted the report determining the age of the teenager in the court of judicial magistrate (East).

The test to determine her age was conducted a second time over Kazmi’s petition challenging an earlier test that suggested that the girl’s age was between 16 and 17.

image 36

Zahra’s age according to the fresh report is:

On the basis of physical examination — 14-15 years

On the basis of dentition evaluation and OPG examination — 13-15 years

On the basis of epiphyseal closure assessed through radiological examination — 16-17

“The consensus opinion regarding the overall age of Ms Dua Zahra D/O Syed Mehdi Kazmi is between fifteen to sixteen (15-16) years, nearer to fifteen years, based on physical examination and dentition,” the report concluded.

The court will hold hearing on the case on July 7.

Earlier, the lawyer representing the father of the teenager also confirmed that the medical board’s report of ossification and dentition tests performed on Dua Zahra has stated her age as “nearest to 15 years”.

Jibran Nasir, Kazmi’s attorney and a social rights activist, claimed on Twitter that the findings of the previous medical report, which determined the girl was between the ages of 16 and 17, have been refuted.

He continued by saying that it has been established that the paperwork that Zahra’s parents had provided, which claimed she was under 15, was accurate.

In reality, Nasir said, “Dua is a 14-year-old child.

“The truth that Parents have been stating for the past 2.5 months has been confirmed by the medical board. According to the board, Dua Zahra is closer to 15 years old than the previous medical report, which had Dua’s age listed as 17. Having established that Dua is indeed a 14-year-old child and that NADRA documents are accurate, “He tweeted something.

The case hearing is expected to begin shortly.

hajj

One million people travel to Saudi Arabia for the largest hajj since the pandemic.

MECCA, Saudi Arabia: As Islam’s holiest city gets ready to host the largest hajj pilgrimage since the coronavirus pandemic, white-robed worshippers from all over the world have crowded the streets.

Armed security forces guarded the historic city, the founder of the Prophet Mohammed, as banners welcoming the faithful—including the first foreign visitors since 2019—decorated squares and alleys.

Abdel Qader Kheder, a Sudanese pilgrim, told AFP in Mecca that the event, which is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, is “pure joy.” I almost find it hard to believe I’m here. Every second of it is fun for me.

image 35

After two years of drastically reduced attendance due to the pandemic, one million people, including 850,000 foreigners, are permitted at this year’s hajj, a central act of Islam that every able-bodied Muslim is required to perform at least once.

The authorities reported on Sunday that at least 650,000 foreign pilgrims have arrived in Saudi Arabia so far.

Around 2.5 million people participated in the rituals in 2019, which include circumambulating the Kaaba, the massive black cube inside the Grand Mosque in Mecca, congregating at Mount Arafat, and “stoning the devil” in Mina.

To prevent the hajj from becoming a super-spreader on a global scale, foreigners were banned the following year and the number of worshippers was limited to just 10,000, increasing to 60,000 fully immunized Saudi citizens and residents in 2021.

Under strict sanitary conditions, including ten times daily cleaning and disinfection of the Grand Mosque, Islam’s holiest site, one million immunized pilgrims under the age of 65 will perform the hajj.

According to the official toll, the rituals have been the scene of numerous disasters, including a 2015 stampede that may have killed up to 2,300 people and a 1979 attack by hundreds of gunmen that claimed 153 lives.

BTS reignites discussion of South Korean military service

SEOUL: Boy band BTS from South Korea’s unexpected decision to stop performing live has reignited discussion about mandatory military service in a nation that sets global pop-culture trends while contending with a long-standing Cold War threat.

All able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 28 are required to serve in the military for about two years as part of efforts to defend against a hostile North Korea, which is a highly contentious issue in South Korea.

Over the years, specific categories of men have been granted exemptions, allowing them to postpone service for a predetermined amount of time or perform shorter service. These categories include men who place first or second in their respective sports, such as classical musicians and dancers, as well as men who win medals at the Olympics or Asian Games.

image 34

Globally renowned K-pop stars were permitted to delay their service until the age of 30 under a 2019 revision to the law. A new amendment that would allow K-pop stars to complete just three weeks of military training is currently being discussed in parliament.

The result of the discussions in the parliament will be significant for BTS, especially for the group’s oldest member, Jin, who is known to fans.

The seven members of BTS have long been portrayed by the band’s management company as eager to fulfill their obligations, but as time passes, the reality of their two years of full-time military service becomes increasingly clear. Jin, 29, has avoided serving in the military as long as he can, but he now faces the impending prospect of a full stint – meaning two years out of the public eye – when he turns 30.

According to Yoon Sang-hyun, the lawmaker who proposed the amendment to include three weeks of training for K-pop stars, waiting for parliament to make a decision has been extremely stressful for Jin and his band mates and is the main reason they are taking a break from performing.

The members claimed that they were tired and needed a break, but Jin’s military service was the true cause, Yoon told Reuters. Consideration should be given to BTS’s military service based on how much of a “soft power” boost they provided to South Korea, according to Yoon. He claimed that BTS had completed a task that would have required more than 1,000 diplomats.

Time is hard.

BTS has gained international fame since their 2013 debut thanks to its upbeat songs and social campaigns that support youth emancipation. BTS met with American President Joe Biden at the White House in May to discuss hate crimes against Asians. Last year, BTS became the first Asian band to win artist of the year at the American Music Awards.

The band’s Big Hit management company is one of the organizations that make up the Korea Music Content Association, and its secretary-general, Choi Kwang-ho, described the wait for a decision as agonizing. Young artists have suffered because of unfulfilled expectations, according to Choi.

A Gallup survey conducted in April found that 33% of South Koreans opposed the bill exempting internationally successful K-pop stars from mandatory military service, with nearly 60% supporting it. Although Big Hit official Lee Jin-hyung stated at a news conference in Las Vegas in April that some band members were experiencing “hard times” due to “uncertainties” surrounding the parliament debate, the band and their management company have refrained from commenting on the topic. He demanded a choice.

When Jin was questioned about Lee’s remarks hours later, he replied that he was letting Big Hit handle the situation but added that what Lee said reflected his viewpoint.

Not just the K-pop industry wants the rules to change. President Yoon Suk-new yeol’s administration is considering granting exemptions to a few engineers and researchers working in the computer chip and other high-tech industries. The Ministry of Defence cited a constitutional mandate that all citizens must carry out their responsibility to protect the nation.

According to a ministry official, adding pop culture artists to the list of athletes and artists who qualify for the exemption “requires careful consideration in terms of fairness.” Some young men also question whether BTS qualifies for special treatment.

PM, Military leadership to mutually decide on next: Ahsan Iqbal

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the military leadership will mutually decide on the next Chief of Army Staff (COAS) but for now, the extension of the COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa or the appointment of new army chief is not on the table, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has said.
In an exclusive interview with a private television channel Sunday, the minister also criticized the Imran Khan government for destroying China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects especially the Gwadar deep-sea port, which he revealed could no longer dock larger ships after falling to neglect under the PTI government.
Ahsan Iqbal said the Imran Khan government did not spend a single dollar on Gwadar although Chia allocated $123 million for the cleaning of the silt.
For four years, the maritime affairs authorities kept requesting for funds to carry out maintenance dredging but in vain, he said.
The depth of Gwadar port had dropped from 14 meters to 11 meters, he said.

He added that the current government has now tasked the Pakistan Navy with dredging the port, but until the operation is completed no big ship could dock at Gwadar port.
Talking about the appointment of new COAS due in November, he said Imran Khan was making institutions controversial to save his politics.

For now, the extension of the COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa or an appointment of new army chief is not under consideration, he said.
“This is something that the prime minister decides by working together with the military leadership in the interest of the country. Hence, I believe that the matter related to our military institutions should not be debated in media and that too pre-maturely. When the time comes, the prime minister will decide in line with the national interest,” he said.
Ahsan Iqbal said Imran Khan was no more than an angry man and he was destined to wander on the streets.

He said with the kind of politics Imran Khan was doing by hurling accusations against institutions he was digging his political grave and people will not accept him.
Over a question about Aslam Bhutani — who protested against the coalition government over its failure to issue development funds, Ahsan Iqbal said his complaint was based on a misunderstanding that had been removed.

Ahsan Iqbal said that when the military leadership declared that it did not want to be dragged into politics, it was a victory for the PML-N narrative about respecting the
He said the party will go into general elections with the slogan of development.

President Alvi instructs NHA to provide employment to the widow of a deceased employee under the PM’s Assistance Package without further delay

ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi has ordered the National Highway Authority (NHA) to immediately appoint a deceased employee’s widow under the Prime Minister’s Assistance Package and to report compliance to the Wafaqi Mohtasib within 30 days.President Dr. Arif alvi voiced displeasure over the situation, stating that the widow had five young children to maintain and had been denied work on the “flimsy grounds” that she had applied for the job after the required period of one year had passed after her husband’s passing.

The president issued these directives while dismissing NHA’s protest of Wafaqi Mohtasib’s orders instructing NHA to provide employment.President Dr. Arif Alvi observed that even though the widow had applied after a passage of more than two years and eight months after her husband’s death, she had produced an Office Memorandum (OM) of the Establishment Division during the hearing which took care of this aspect. The president further noted that NHA appeared to have “overlooked this important fact” and termed the stance of NHA on her employment as “ill-founded” and directed it to process her appointment.

Feeling aggrieved, she approached the Wafaqi Mohtasib who passed the orders for her employment. NHA, however, instead of implementing the decision filed a representation with the president.”

The president gave these orders while rejecting a representation of NHA against the orders of the Wafaqi Mohtasib directing NHA to grant employment to Mst. Ishrat Bibi (the complainant) whose husband was a driver in NHA and had died during service,” the statement readThe president upheld the order of Wafaqi Mohtasib and directed NHA to make compliance within 30 days.

A software issue has been reported in 59,000 Tesla vehicles by a German traffic agency.

FRANKFURT: The automatic emergency call system in Tesla (TSLA.O) models Y and 3 is being recalled due to a bug that affects 59,000 vehicles worldwide, according to Germany’s road traffic agency.

The eCall, which is intended to automatically contact emergency responders in the event of a serious accident, is malfunctioning, the KBA watchdog reported on its website on June 29.

The recall was first announced on Saturday by German regional broadcaster Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg, which covers the area where Tesla’s German model Y and battery production facility are located close to Berlin.

KBA did not say how many of the 59,129 vehicles affected worldwide were registered in Germany

Elon Musk, the company’s CEO, already has his hands full with the software issue. Tesla announced on Saturday that its second-quarter deliveries of electric vehicles were down 17.9% from the first quarter due to disruptions in its supply chain and production caused by China’s Covid 19 shutdown.

Tesla’s new factories in Texas and Berlin, according to Musk, are “losing billions of dollars” as they try to increase production amid a battery shortage and problems with Chinese ports.

Before it could request a recall, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) had to upgrade its investigation into 830,000 Tesla vehicles equipped with the advanced driver assistance system Autopilot.

Tesla wasn’t available to comment right away.

Horner is against using “porpoising” tactics during the season.

Red Bull team owner Christian Horner urged Formula One’s governing body on Saturday to refrain from making technical rule changes in the middle of a race to address the sport’s “porpoising” issues.

At a press conference following the British Grand Prix, Horner, whose team is currently leading both F1 world championships, stated that it was already too late to intervene and make changes for the current season.
However, Mercedes made it clear that they support efforts to stop the “bouncing” problems two days after the governing International Motoring Federation (FIA) issued guidance notes about a “porpoising technical directive” to be introduced at the French Grand Prix (July 24).

In accordance with the directive, there will be a “bouncing” limit that will be tracked using a metric that measures vertical accelerations, “plank” (a device carried in the wear and flexibility.

image 31

It’s already too late, in Horner’s opinion, to introduce changes for the following year.

“For that, we have governance. What you carry over to the following year will depend on the costs involved, which are occasionally negative outcomes of changing your entire philosophical perspective.

This will have an impact on development and design. Stability is crucial and is the main means of achieving stable costs.

He predicted that the teams would find solutions on their own without the FIA getting in the way.

He said, “The cars will converge.”

“You can already see it. Some vehicles resemble more well-known ones! Over the following six to nine months, I believe that will continue.

The key is to not interfere with it; just leave it alone, and the teams will handle it.

Many other team owners supported Horner because they opposed any interference by the FIA in the rules or changes for 2023.

Stability is ultimately what matters most to us, according to Alfa Romeo team manager Fred Vasseur.

Mike Elliott, the technical director at Mercedes, acknowledged that his team suffered greatly from bouncing but declared that he was open to change.

The drivers claim that when there is heavy bouncing, it is uncomfortable and unsafe for them.

“I believe that is something that this sport must deal with, and as a result, the sport must adjust and change.

“The problem is that these vehicles were created to follow a set of “ground effect” rules in an effort to facilitate passing. Can you continue doing some of that while avoiding bouncing, is the question.”

After reviewing the most recent draught technical directive, he added that there was still a lot of work to be done.

“I believe it’s something the FIA is working on based on what we’ve heard.

To use that measurement, Baku is one competition from which we wouldn’t have managed to pass (the test), but late last night, we wouldn’t even have triggered the metric.

Champions prepare for the most competitive Euros

MANCHESTER: England’s opening match of Euro 2022 against Austria at Old Trafford is expected to be the most competitive women’s European Championship to date.

What to expect from the group stage is examined by AFP Sport:

After making it to the semifinals of their last three major competitions, the hosts must shoulder the burden of an entire nation hoping to win a women’s tournament for the first time.

Under the Dutch coach, who guided her country to Euro glory on home soil five years ago, the Lionesses are unbeaten in 14 games.

This includes scoring 68 goals without answering in eight World Cup qualifying matches against teams like Austria and Northern Ireland, who they will both face in Group A.

With all three of their group matches sold out, including the tournament opener at Old Trafford against Austria, England will also have strong backing from the crowd.

Two-time winners Norway pose the biggest threat with former Ballon d’Or winner Ada Hegerberg restored up front after a self-imposed five-year exile from international duty.

Austria was a penalty shootout away from reaching the final five years ago and only narrowly lost out 1-0 to England when they met in World Cup qualifying in November.

Northern Ireland is the only tournament debutants and Kenny Shiels’ side faces a daunting task if they are even to take a point from their three games in Southampton.

The toughest of the four groups sees tournament favorites Spain, eight-time winners Germany, and 2017 finalists Denmark battling for two places in the last eight.

Spain has yet to excel at a major competition, but they are fortunate to have the core of the Barcelona team, which had swept all before them in recent seasons until falling to Lyon in the Champions League final in May.

La Roja’s chances have been severely hurt by the injury to all-time leading scorer Jennifer Hermoso, but all eyes will be on Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas to make a lasting impression on the competition.

Germany is no longer the dominant force it once was in women’s sports.

When they lost 3-2 to Serbia in April, Martina Voss-team Tecklenburg’s suffered its first away World Cup qualifying defeat since 1998. They also placed last in the four-team Arnold Clark Cup, trailing England, Spain, and Canada two.
