Elon Musk’s most recent tweet makes fun of Twitter

Elon Musk, a multibillionaire, slammed Twitter with a new meme after abandoning a $44 billion acquisition of the microblogging platform.

According to a regulatory filing, the richest man in the world informed Twitter on Friday that he would not be purchasing the company and that it had made “misleading” claims regarding the number of fake accounts.

In response to Musk’s announcement, Twitter says it will sue the Tesla CEO to enforce the $44 billion purchase agreement for the business that the multibillionaire is now attempting to sell.

The Twitter Board is dedicated to completing the transaction on the terms and price agreed upon with Mr. Musk, and Bret Taylor tweeted that the company plans to take legal action to enforce the merger agreement. “We are certain that we will succeed.”

Elon Musk now mocked Twitter on Monday by posting a meme that consists of a collage of four images of the billionaire laughing out loud, each with a commentary.

They told me I couldn’t buy Twitter, the first photo comment reads, and the second adds, “Then they wouldn’t disclose bot info.”

“Now they want to force me to buy Twitter in court,” reads the third comment.

“Now they have to disclose bot information in court,” reads the final comment.

Flooding in Karachi is limiting the supply of gasoline

KARACHI: The Petroleum Dealer Association reported on Monday that all oil companies had stopped supplying the city’s metropolitan area due to the state of the roads after torrential rains lashed the area.

In a statement, the association’s chairman claimed that nearly all oil companies have decided to stop supply because of the relentless rain, which has flooded many areas and left the roads in “bad” condition.

The main roads, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, Dr. Ziauddin Ahemd Road, and II Chundrigarh Road, are now under water as a result of the torrential rains that started on the evening of Eid ul Adha’s first day and have not stopped since.

After weddings affected by the pandemic, 500 New York couples attend a mass celebration

A New York event intended to mend the wounds of the COVID-19 pandemic saw about 500 couples celebrate their marriages under a clear sky on Sunday.

The couples, many of whom were already married, walked in procession with garlands on their heads before a symbolic ceremony conducted by an imam, a rabbi, and a pastor.

Some people had a hard time controlling their tears.

image 155

According to Erica Hackman, “the pandemic obviously cancelled everything. We were supposed to get engaged on March 24, 2020, in Hawaii.

The following year, on a rooftop, with only immediate family present, the expecting couple exchanged vows.

The 35-year-old Erica recalled, “Everyone wore masks.”

As a result of the small wedding, Richard, 37, said, “Coming here to celebrate with others who experienced the same thing feels like a really big deal.”

New York was severely affected by the pandemic in 2020, and pictures of a deserted Times Square and makeshift morgues became symbols of the crisis.

The event was billed as a celebration for couples whose weddings had been interfered with and was hosted by the Lincoln Center, the renowned arts complex on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

However, everybody was welcome.

Some couples had been together for a long time, like Esther Friesner Stutzman and her husband Walter Stutzman.

She smiled and said, “He promised me a trip to Paris.

Every Pakistani will call you “thieves, traitors” when they see you: Khan informs the king

LODHRAN: Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, warned the country’s leaders on Monday that no matter where they go, the people of Pakistan will refer to them as “thieves and traitors” when they see them.

The former prime minister mentioned the incident with Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal, where he was heckled and called a “thief” by supporters from the PTI last week, while speaking at a rally ahead of the by-elections scheduled to be held in Punjab on July 17.

“You (Iqbal) claim that Imran Khan has inculcated bad behaviour in people. Ahsan Iqbal, this isn’t impolite; it’s the truth: You’re a thief, Khan yelled at the federal minister.

image 154

Iqbal was personally apologised to by the family who confronted the federal minister at the fast-food restaurant on Friday a day earlier at his home, where they expressed “remorse and embarrassment.”

The PML-N was later accused by the PTI of pressuring the family into making an apology to Iqbal. Osama Sher, a family member, claimed that there was “no pressure” on the family and that they “willingly” apologised to the federal minister.

Khan also informed the jalsa that despite their “corruption,” Iqbal and other PML-N leaders follow Nawaz Sharif blindly.

The PTI chairman asserted that since taking office, the current leaders have “stolen” Rs. 1,100 billion from the country and will continue to do so because they are “corrupt.”

“Wherever people see you, they’ll be saying two things: thieves and traitors. With the support of the United States, you toppled a government, the PTI chairman declared.

allegations against Zardari
The money of Sindh residents, according to the former prime minister, is “moved to Dubai in the name of politics.”

Khan added that he had prepared the cases against Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and PPP Co-Chair Asif Ali Zardari. He continued, “I did the best I could to get these thieves.”

He claimed that Zardari and his “group” had done nothing to prepare the province before the rains arrived.

Usman Buzdar, the former chief minister of Punjab, was often made fun of, but thanks to underground tanks, water hasn’t accumulated on the city’s roads, Khan noted, praising his party’s accomplishments.

The country’s largest city, Karachi, was brought to a standstill today (Monday), as the roads throughout the metropolis were inundated with water, as a result of the intense rains that have claimed the lives of more than a dozen people.

dua and farher

‘I hope this is your last Eid without me,’ Mehdi Kazmi says to Dua Zahra.

Mehdi Kazmi, Dua Zahra’s father, wished that this Eid ul Adha would be the last one without his daughter in a message he recorded for her.

In a video message, Kazmi expressed his desire for this to be the final Eid he spends without his daughter. This is the second Eid without her.

image 153

Dua gained national attention when she mysteriously vanished from Karachi in April. She later claimed that she had fled her home to wed Zaheer Ahmed.

Kazmi turned to Dua and said, “Your sisters are waiting for you, your mother cries for you, and I am waiting impatiently for you.”

Without Dua, he claimed, it is impossible to survive. He continued, “We love you and I’m not mad at you.

The father of Dua prayed for these days to go by quickly. More love and affection than before will be shown to you, Kazmi promised.

twitter

The future of the internet depends on Twitter’s case against India

ISLAMABAD: The Indian government was ordered to remove critical content from Twitter after the Washington Post claimed that this would be a “pivotal moment for internet speech around the world.” However, Twitter has contested this order.

Twitter’s petition, which was filed in Bangalore’s Karnataka High Court, contests a recent directive from the Indian government ordering the company to delete content and block numerous accounts. Twitter complied with the directive but later requested legal assistance.

The Washington Post editorial board stated in an opinion piece published on Sunday that the Bharatiya Janata Party, led by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had been eroding online free speech for some time, most notably with the passage of a law last year expanding the executive’s censorship powers.

image 152

According to the law, the government has the right to request that news and information providers take down specific content within 36 hours of receiving a request, and if these demands are ignored, it has the right to file a criminal complaint against a local company grievance officer.

Armed forces once appeared at the company’s offices as part of an investigation into a matter as mundane as a tweet having been labelled “manipulated media.” Twitter’s top executive was summoned by police in one state for failing to remove a violent video using the same laws.

Tweets from authors, including Post Opinions contributor Rana Ayyub and advocacy group Freedom House, were geographically restricted by the company.

The choice put Twitter in a challenging situation where, on the one hand, local laws did not align with its values and, on the other, employee safety was at stake.

According to Twitter’s petition, the government has attempted to stifle more tweets than allowed by law. The platform further claims that authorities have not supported their demands with evidence or evaluated previous takedowns to determine whether they are still necessary.

According to reports, the case is essentially a test of whether free speech in India will continue to flourish. It will determine whether the judiciary will intervene to defend speech when an unjust law is unfairly applied and makes it nearly impossible for a company to do so.

This conflict involves more than just India and Twitter. As restrictive regulations as India’s revised code have already been enacted in some nations, and others are considering it. The same is true of alleged hostage-taking laws that intimidate businesses into closer cooperation by threatening employees.

Not just social media firms should oppose them. Democracies around the world committed to civil liberties also have a duty to fight for the future of the internet, despite any obligations Twitter may have to its users or the Indian government to its citizens.

The Indian government had instructed Twitter to delete posts about civil liberties grievances, demonstrations, press freedoms, and criticisms of the administration’s response to the pandemic, according to a New York Times article.

WhatsApp was previously informed that it would be necessary to make users’ private messages “traceable” to government agencies upon request; however, this requirement was also contested, and the case is still pending.

At a time when the government is accused of using a broad definition of what content it finds offensive to target critics, experts said the Indian government’s move to require Twitter to block accounts and posts amounted to censorship.

eid outifts

Eidul Azha outfits that are to die for, of bangles and love

On Sunday, Pakistanis celebrated Eidul Azha with the customary zeal and fervour, but thanks to the heavy monsoon rains that hit Karachi like a truck, much of that enthusiasm has faded.

Since Sunday night, the port city has experienced severe urban flooding and nonstop torrential rain, and today is expected to see more intense downpour for several hours.

We’ve put together some of our favourite looks from the first day of the annual religious festival, Eid, to make up for the gloomy weather and temporarily lift your spirits.

Despite moderate to heavy rain in various parts of the country, many of our divas dressed to the nines. They chose flowy fabrics and vibrant colors—a choice we wholeheartedly support.

karachi rain

Karachi suffers severe urban flooding following a record-breaking downpour

On Monday, the port city experienced record rainfall that continued into the morning in most areas, flooding the area and paralysing daily life in Karachi.

After a slow-moving thunderstorm stalled over the city in the early morning hours, the southern parts of Karachi, including DHA, Clifton, Kemari, Saddar, and other localities, reportedly received the most rainfall.

image 150

The majority of DHA and Clifton’s neighbourhoods were submerged, with water levels reaching almost waist height in some places.

Additionally flooded were the Main I.I. Chundrigar, DHA, Clifton Underpass, Delhi Colony Road, Sharae Faisal, and other significant city thoroughfares. According to the city’s traffic police, water accumulation has forced the closure of underpasses at Punjab Chowrangi, Abdullah Shah Ghazi Shrine, and KPT.

Due to the excessive rain, highways leading out of the city were also flooded. Flooding forced the closure of the highway’s Karachi-Hyderabad section.

District South has received at least 120mm of precipitation, with higher totals reported in coastal areas. Social media was also used by residents of the port city to lament extended power outages.

After the unprecedented rainstorm, Pakistani Army and Rangers personnel are hard at work providing relief. The armed forces and the civil administration have installed at least 388 dewatering pumps to clean up the worst-affected areas.

According to reports, the Gujjar, Orangi, and Mehmoodabad nullahs are all at full capacity, necessitating the use of pumps to dewater flooded areas.

According to the city administrator Murtaza Wahab, three hours of rain in some parts of Karachi totaled up to 126mm. The process is slow, he continued, but the storm drains and nullahs are receiving water.

Pumping stations installed at various locations are operating at full capacity, according to Wahab, who added that the administration is making every effort to “address the situation.”

chandimal

After Chandimal and Jayasuriya’s heroics, Sri Lanka levels the series.

COLOMBO: On Monday, Sri Lanka defeated Australia by an innings and 39 runs to tie the series. Dinesh Chandimal scored his first double century and Prabath Jayasuriya made a dream debut by claiming 12 wickets.

Five of Sri Lanka’s six batsmen scored fifty-plus runs as they amassed 554 all out in the first game of the series, defeating them in less than three days. This gave them a comfortable lead of 190 runs.

With a career-high 206 not out and 16 fours and five sixes in the first double hundred by a Sri Lankan batter against Australia, Chandimal provided the foundation.

image 149

With figures of 6-59, left-arm spinner Jayasuriya—who recorded 6-118 in the first innings—came back to dismiss Australia for 151.

With David Warner (24) and Usman Khawaja (29), the tourists got off to a strong start.

Prior to tea, Warner was bowled by Ramesh Mendis leg before wicket, and after the break, Jayasuriya shocked the visitors with a two-wicket over.

Smith was out lbw for a duck while Khawaja made a bat-pad catch.

Prior to Ramesh spinning a delivery past the bat and hitting the top of the off-stump, Travis Head had made five as Australia fell to 74-4 from 49 for no loss.

Once he had scored 185 runs, Chandimal hit Starc for a boundary and then back-to-back sixes to reach the milestone of becoming the first Sri Lankan batter to score a double hundred against Australia.

The batsman knelt down and raised his arms while taking in the cheers of the audience.

When Angelo Mathews tested positive during the first game of the series, Pathum Nissanka, Sri Lanka’s opener, was replaced by Oshada Fernando after testing positive for COVID-19.

gunmen

In “random” shootings at bars in South Africa, gunmen kill 19 people.

JOHANNESBURG: Police in South Africa said on Sunday that two seemingly random shootings at taverns there resulted in the deaths of 19 people, reiterating the country’s grim reputation as a global hub for homicide.

In the early hours of Sunday, gunmen armed with rifles and pistols opened fire in the Orlando East bar in the Soweto township, killing 15 people and injuring nine others, according to police.

Elias Mawela, the provincial police commissioner for Gauteng, claimed that it was clear from the way the bullet casings were scattered that the shooters were acting carelessly.

image 148

Sthembiso, 34, and Luyanda, 18, one of Sololo Mjoli’s two sons, were both killed in the attack at the bar in one of Soweto’s less affluent neighbourhoods that is primarily made up of metal sheet shacks.

The 59-year-old gardener expressed his “heartbreak,” adding that Sthemibiso’s girlfriend had found him still breathing when she had arrived on the scene soon after the shooting.

He was then taken to the hospital, where he passed away.

Thobani Mhlabiso, a bar waiter, claimed that he hid behind the refrigerator to escape the attack.

He said, “There was blood all over.”

Four people were killed and eight were injured in a second, seemingly random shooting that occurred hours earlier, at around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday in a bar in Pietermaritzburg, 500 kilometres southeast of Soweto.

The two shootings, according to the officers, were unrelated. According to police, who noted that it was unclear how many attackers were involved in either shooting, the murderers from both incidents are on the run.

With 20,000 murders per year, South Africa, which has a population of about 60 million, is one of the most violent nations in the world. This country also has one of the highest murder rates per capita in the world.

Russian rockets hit an apartment building in Ukraine, causing death and destruction.

Ukraine, CHASIV YAR/KYIV: Local authorities reported on Sunday that a five-story apartment building in Ukraine’s Donetsk region was struck by Russian Uragan rockets, resulting in at least 15 deaths and the fear of another 20 being trapped.

While Moscow claimed its forces attacked Ukrainian army hangars housing US-produced M777 howitzers, a type of artillery, near Kostyantynivka in the Donetsk region, Ukraine also reported clashes with Russian forces on fronts in the east and south.

The strike on the apartment building happened on Saturday night in the town of Chasiv Yar, according to Donetsk Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko. On Sunday afternoon, the local emergency service reported 15 fatalities, adding that 24 more people might still be trapped beneath the rubble.

image 147

A local resident identified as Ludmila said, “We ran to the basement, there were three hits, the first somewhere in the kitchen,” as rescuers removed a body wrapped in a white sheet and cleared the debris with a crane and their hands.

“We ran toward the second entrance and then directly into the basement the second, I can’t even remember, there was lightning. Up until this morning, we stayed there all night.” Venera, a different survivor, claimed she had wanted to save her two kittens.

She said, sobbing, “I was thrown into the bathroom, it was all chaos, I was in shock, and I was all covered in blood.” “The room was covered in debris when I finally emerged from the restroom; three floors had collapsed. Under the debris, I never discovered the kittens.”

Almost 99 tonnes of debris were removed by rescuers from the site of the collapsed apartment building in Chasiv Yar, according to a Telegram post by Kyrylenko.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, claimed in a Telegram post that the attack was “another terrorist attack” and that as a result, Russia should be labelled as a state sponsor of terrorism.

Russia, which claims to be carrying out a “special military operation” to demilitarise Ukraine, rejects accusations that it intentionally targeted civilians.

The Donbas, an industrial region in eastern Ukraine that has long been Europe’s largest battleground, is made up of the provinces of Luhansk and Donetsk. For the benefit of the separatists it backs, Russia wants to seize control of the Donbas.

Moscow’s invasion is referred to as an unprovoked war of aggression by the West and Ukraine.

Russian forces launched a cruise missile attack from their side of the border on the northeastern city of Kharkiv, according to Ukrainian military reports, but were forced to retreat after attacking Ukrainian positions close to the town of Sloviansk in Donetsk. It provided no information on casualties or damage.

Russian forces were reportedly assembling near the village of Bilohorivka, about 50 kilometres (30 miles) east of Sloviansk, according to Serhiy Gaidai, the governor of the Luhansk region.

He wrote on Telegram, “The enemy is shelling the nearby settlements and conducting air strikes, but it is still unable to quickly occupy the entire Luhansk region.”

Last weekend, Russia proclaimed complete control over the province of Luhansk.

The U.S.-made M777 howitzers, which were allegedly used to shell residential areas of Donetsk, were reportedly stored in two hangars close to the Donetsk town of Kostyantynivka, according to the Russian defence ministry.

On Sunday, separatist officials were quoted by Russian news agencies as saying that the Ukrainian military had been shelling Donetsk with 155-mm NATO-standard artillery since the morning, injuring two locals.

Reuters was unable to independently confirm any battlefield reports.

Military spokespeople for Ukraine were unavailable for comment right away.

According to Ukraine’s military command, its forces engaged Russian positions in the south with missile and artillery fire, including ammunition storage facilities in the Chornobaivka region.

As Ukraine resists the invasion that started on February 24, it has received assistance from Western military supplies and strict sanctions against Moscow.

In 2023, India will overtake China as the most populous nation

In a report released on Monday, the UN predicted that the world’s population will surpass eight billion on November 15 and that India will overtake China as the world’s most populous nation in 2023.

The global population milestone “is a moment to reflect on where we still fall short of our commitments to one another,” Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said without providing any details, and “is a reminder of our shared responsibility to care for our planet.”

image 145

He continued, “This is an opportunity to celebrate our diversity, acknowledge our shared humanity, and marvel at advances in health care that have dramatically lowered maternal and child mortality rates.”

image 146

The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs predicted that global population growth is currently occurring at its slowest rate since 1950.

The population should reach 8.5 billion in 2030 and 9.7 billion in 2050 before reaching a peak of roughly 10.4 billion in the 2080s and staying there until 2100.

While several developing nations are seeing a net decline in birth rates, the report predicted that eight countries will account for more than half of the increase in global population over the next few decades.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Tanzania, according to the report, are among them.

President of Sri Lanka will resign, according to the office of the prime minister

COLOMBO: After tens of thousands of protesters overran both men’s official residences on Monday, Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa informed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe that he would be stepping down.

Rajapaksa announced his resignation on Wednesday, according to the speaker of parliament, following Saturday’s massive protests following a crippling economic crisis. However, Rajapaksa has not publicly stated his intentions.

Wickremesinghe has declared that he too will step down to make way for an all-party interim administration.

image 144

Crowds would continue to occupy the president’s and prime minister’s Colombo residences, according to protest movement leaders, until they resigned from their positions.

On Monday, hundreds of people strolled into the president’s secretariat and residence in Colombo, Sri Lanka’s capital city, and took tours of the colonial-era structures. No one was attempted to be stopped by police.

Jude Hansana, 31, who has been at a protest location outside the home since early April, declared, “We are not going anywhere until this president leaves and we have a government that is acceptable to the people.

“The people are fighting for more comprehensive political reforms. not simply for the president to go. This is just the beginning.

Dushantha Gunasinghe, a different protester, claimed he had travelled to Colombo from a town 130 kilometres (80 miles) away, walking part of the way due to the fuel shortage. On Monday morning, he claimed to have arrived at last.

Season 3 of “Euphoria” will feature an episode that Zendaya will direct

Fans were enthralled when Zendaya revealed she would be directing an episode of Euphoria’s upcoming third season.

The Spider-Man: No Way Home actor was asked when she would be directing an episode of the American teen drama during a Q&A session for Vogue Italia.

The 25-year-old responded that due to a lack of time, she was unable to take on the role of director for an episode of the HBO series’ second season.

image 143

It’s funny, Zendaya said in response. I had to act in episode 6 even though I was supposed to direct it.

She continued, “Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to this time around. I didn’t have enough time.” “I wanted enough time to do it right,” the author said.

So, probably next season, Zendaya said.

In February 2022, HBO announced that the series would return for a third season. The series’ release date has not yet been given an official announcement.

Pakistan is a lock to win the T20 World Cup in 2022.

Pakistan has a strong chance of winning this year’s International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 World Cup, according to pace legend Waqar Younis.

According to Waqar, “We stand a really good chance of doing well at this World Cup,” he told ICC Digital in Melbourne.

image 141

The team led by Babar Azam is currently ranked third in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings and will visit Australia later this year full of optimism following some successful outings in the game’s shortest format over the previous 12 months.

Pakistan advanced to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup last year, which was held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), but lost to Australia, the only team to defeat them since November 2021.

Waqar, however, thinks that the Australian pitches are good and that the Men in Green can succeed there given the circumstances.

Pakistan does have good batters who can really play well in these circumstances, he said. “The pitches in Australia are generally very good batting pitches,” he said.

image 142

“Babar will unquestionably be the important batter at the top of the order.”

Waqar stated, “I believe he (Babar) will have the impact that he always had, and of course, Rizwan is playing very well and the bowling attack they have is one of the best in the world.

The legend mentioned that Hasani Ali is also bowling well and that pacers Haris Rauf and Shaheen Shah Afridi will play a significant role in Pakistan’s pace attack.

“I believe that Shaheen (Afridi) and Haris Rauf will be crucial, but let’s not overlook Hasan Ali either because he has been bowling very well.

Pakistan’s fast bowling attack is excellent, and Shadab and Nawaz, who are both skilled spinners, can be mixed in.

When asked if Babar, one of the best batters in all formats, was superior to or on par with a number of Pakistan’s top batters, Waqar replied that the comparisons could wait for the time being.

Waqar remarked that Babar Azam “looks like a million bucks in modern cricket and he is unquestionably as good as all the big names.”

We shouldn’t forget that each of those greats played in a different era and had their own unique strengths and qualities.

When Babar retires, you can perhaps sit down and begin comparing him to other players because he is still very young and has a lot of cricket left in him.

Uber

Leaked Uber documents reveal bare-knuckle expansion strategies: an investigation is underway

SAN FRANCISCO: According to a media investigation, a cache of confidential files from ride-sharing company Uber demonstrates ethically dubious and potentially illegal tactics it used to fuel its frenetic global expansion that began nearly a decade ago.

The investigation, dubbed the “Uber Files,” involving dozens of news organizations, discovered that company officials used the sometimes violent backlash from the taxi industry against drivers to gain support and evade regulatory authorities as it sought to conquer new markets early in its history.

The revelations, culled from 124,000 documents obtained by the British newspaper the Guardian and shared with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, are the latest setback for a company that has been dogged by controversy as it has exploded into a disruptive force in local transportation.

image 140

The cache contains uncensored text and email exchanges between executives, with highlights from co-founder and former CEO Travis Kalanick, who was forced to resign in 2017 after allegations of brutal management practices and multiple incidents of sexual and psychological abusive behavior at the company.

“Violence ensures (s) success,” Kalanick messaged other company leaders in 2016, as he pushed for a counter-protest amid sometimes heated protests in Paris against Uber’s entry into the market.

The Washington Post, one of the media outlets involved in the investigation, reported that Uber’s rapid expansion relied on subsidized drivers and discounted fares that undercut the taxi industry, and “often without seeking licenses to operate as a taxi and livery service.”

As taxi drivers felt their means of support were threatened, they faced violent retaliation across Europe. According to the Post, the investigation discovered that “in some cases, when drivers were attacked, Uber executives quickly pivoted to capitalize” to seek public and regulatory support.

According to reports, Uber has used similar strategies in European nations like Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, and Italy, mobilizing drivers and enticing them to call the police when they were the victims of violence in order to use media attention to persuade the authorities to grant them concessions.

According to a Kalanick spokesperson, he “never suggested that Uber should take advantage of violence at the expense of driver safety,” strongly disputing the findings as having a “false agenda.”

Uber, on the other hand, attributed the Sunday incident to previously acknowledged “mistakes” made by the Kalanick administration.

It noted that his successor, Dara Khosrowshahi, “was tasked with transforming every aspect of how Uber operates,” saying, “We’ve moved from an era of confrontation to one of collaboration, demonstrating a willingness to come to the table and find common ground with former opponents, including labor unions and taxi companies.”

Pakistan expresses gratitude to Nigeria for Dr. Abuzar Muhammad Afzal’s safe return

The Foreign Office stated on Sunday that the government and people of Pakistan “deeply appreciate the brotherly people and government of Nigeria for their assistance in securing the safe release of Pakistani citizen, Dr Abuzar Muhammad Afzal.”

Dr. Afzal was “kidnapped and held in captivity for over 3 months,” the FO claimed in a statement.

The statement read, “Dr. Abuzar was one of many passengers taken hostage in an attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train on March 28, 2022.”

He is the only foreigner among the seven hostages freed last night and the 13 others who were released a month ago, it was added.

The Foreign Office reports that Dr. Afzal “thanked the governments of Pakistan and Nigeria, the dealmaker and his employer, and everyone who made a significant contribution to the efforts for his freedom” in a video message from Kaduna City this morning following his release.

He also thanked Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs for their ongoing efforts to ensure his safety and release, according to the statement.

The FO went on to say that Pakistan “appreciates Nigeria’s political and military leadership, as well as the coordination between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs and the High Commissions, culminating in the release of [Dr Afzal].”

Concerning his current situation, the FO stated that Dr. Afzal “has already arrived in Abuja and has been provided with an Emergency Travel Document by the Pakistan High Commission to facilitate his journey to Pakistan later tonight.”

According to the FO, Dr. Afzal will be reunited with his family and loved ones in Multan during the joyous occasion of Eid ul Adha.

Family of PML-N leader: “No pressure, we sincerely apologised to Ahsan Iqbal.”

A family member who last week heckled PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal claimed that there was “no pressure” on them and that they “willingly” apologized to the federal minister.

Following PTI’s Shahbaz Gill’s assertion that they were “threatened” and “pressured” to apologize, family member Osama Sher expressed regret for the behavior and clarified their position.

He said, “We realized that we made a mistake.

They went to Ahsan Iqbal’s house voluntarily and expressed regret for their behavior, according to Osama Sher, who claimed there was no pressure on them.

image 135

“I have no idea where such things on social media originate. The decision to apologize was entirely ours, and our family also accepted responsibility for our actions.

On Sunday, the family had visited the PML-N leader’s home and “expressed remorse and embarrassment.”

The incident’s family came to Narowal and apologized for their actions in our meeting and expressed regret and embarrassment, Ahsan Iqbal wrote in a tweet that included a photo of them visiting him at home.

Iqbal claimed to have previously stated he “won’t be taking legal action against them.”

“We’re all from Pakistan. We must maintain respect for one another and not let our differences turn into animosity “Added he.

Iqbal received taunts on Friday at the eatery where he ostensibly had dinner.

People were seen cursing at the minister in the incident’s video, which quickly gained popularity on social media.

Iqbal later posted on Twitter that “a family — who apparently considered themselves elites and supported PTI — clashed with me.”

He added that as a response, other diners at the restaurant began chanting anti-PTI slogans. “Instead of holding a dialogue with me, they started chanting slogans,” he wrote.

Iqbal criticised PTI Chairman Imran Khan for “instilling hatred” in society and stated that his supporters “are following suit” just like their ignorant and insane leader.

Russian rockets hit an apartment building in Ukraine, causing death and destruction.

Local authorities reported on Sunday that a five-story apartment building in Ukraine’s Donetsk region was struck by Russian Uragan rockets, resulting in at least 15 deaths and the fear of another 20 being trapped.

While Moscow claimed its forces attacked Ukrainian army hangars housing US-produced M777 howitzers, a type of artillery, near Kostyantynivka in the Donetsk region, Ukraine also reported clashes with Russian forces on fronts in the east and south.

image 134

The strike on the apartment building happened on Saturday night in the town of Chasiv Yar, according to Donetsk Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko.

On Sunday afternoon, the local emergency service reported 15 fatalities, adding that 24 more people might still be trapped beneath the rubble.

We ran towards the second entrance and then directly into the basement during the second (strike), which I cannot even recall. From last night until this morning, we sat there.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, claimed in a Telegram post that the attack was “another terrorist attack” and that as a result, Russia ought to be labelled as a state sponsor of terrorism.

Moscow claims that driving the Ukrainian military out of the area is a key component of its over four-month-old “special military operation” to ensure its own security. The West refers to this offensive as an unprovoked war.

U.S. howitzers
The Ukrainian military reported that Russian forces had launched a cruise missile attack on the northeastern city of Kharkiv from their side of the border but that they had been forced to retreat after attacking Ukrainian positions close to the town of Sloviansk in Donetsk. It made no mention of the casualties or damage.

Serhiy Gaidai, the governor of the Luhansk region, claimed that Russian forces were assembling near the village of Bilohorivka, which is located about 50 kilometres (30 miles) east of Sloviansk.

The enemy is shelling nearby towns and conducting airstrikes, but it is still unable to quickly occupy the entire Luhansk region, he wrote on Telegram.

As Japan laments the death of the former prime minister, Abe’s body is brought home.

After being killed by a lone gunman in a shocking act of political violence, a motorcade carrying the body of former prime minister Shinzo Abe arrived at his home in the Japanese capital on Saturday.

In the western city of Nara, where Japan’s longest-serving modern leader was shot and killed while giving a campaign speech on Friday, mourners gathered at his home and at the scene of the attack. The political establishment condemned the killing as an assault on democracy itself.

The security arrangements at the event where Abe was shot at close range by a 41-year-old unemployed man carrying a homemade gun are being reviewed by authorities.

image 133

According to the police, the man was resentful of Abe. On Sunday, elections for seats in the upper house of the Japanese parliament will take place as planned.

After making an urgent return to Tokyo on Friday following the shooting, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was back on the campaign trail visiting regional constituencies.

In the largely crime-free nation of Japan, a metal detector was installed at the location where Kishida was scheduled to deliver a campaign speech. There were also a lot of police around. A line of people formed in Nara, which is located about 450 kilometres southwest of Tokyo, to place flowers on a table that also featured an image of Abe.

Natsumi Niwa, a 50-year-old housewife, said after presenting flowers to the victim’s family near the scene of the murder outside a downtown train station: “I’m just shocked that this kind of thing happened in Nara.”

Niwa explained how Masakuni’s name was inspired by Abe, a conservative and the creator of the “Abenomics” policies meant to revive the economy. Japan was once praised by Abe as a “beautiful nation.” Japan’s word for nation is “kuni.”

On Monday, there will be a vigil at night. According to the media, close friends will attend Abe’s funeral on Tuesday. There was no immediate word regarding a memorial service for the public. Police are rushing to figure out the killer’s intentions and strategy.

Defense Secretary won’t run as lawmakers jockey for the UK leadership position.

One of the front-runners in polls to succeed Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Britain’s defence secretary, declared on Saturday that he would not enter the already contentious race for the top job.

A committee of backbenchers will meet on Monday to decide on the timetable and rules for the likely months-long campaign, which could pit more than a dozen Tory lawmakers and various factions of the ruling party against one another.

So far, four candidates have declared their candidacy. Former finance minister Rishi Sunak, who assisted in sparking the cabinet uprising that resulted in Johnson’s forcible resignation on Thursday, is currently the front-runner.

When Sunak announced his resignation late on Tuesday, dozens of other less senior coworkers quickly followed suit, forcing his former boss to step down as Tory leader 36 hours later. Johnson, whose three years as prime minister were marked by scandal, the country’s exit from the European Union, and Covid, however, declared he would continue in office until his successor is chosen.

Now, a summer of bitter campaigning is approaching. Before the Conservatives’ annual conference in early October, party members will ultimately choose their new leader from a two-person shortlist that has been narrowed down through multiple rounds of MP voting.

image 132

Because of the toxic confluence of high inflation, widespread cost-of-living increases, stagnant growth, and relatively high tax rates that Britain is currently experiencing, taxation will likely figure prominently in the election along with candidates’ stances on Brexit.

Along with Sunak, Suella Braverman, the attorney general and a fervent Brexiteer, Kemi Badenoch, a relatively unknown former equalities minister, and Tom Tugendhat, a backbencher Tory MP, have also declared their candidacies.

Liz Truss, the foreign secretary, and Nadhim Zahawi, the new finance minister, who took Sunak’s place in the treasury on Wednesday, are anticipated to join the crowded field that may also include

At $20K, Bitcoin is “cheap” as the BTC price to wallet ratio resembles 2013.

Jurrien Timmer of Fidelity Investments remains optimistic about the resilience of the Bitcoin network, and another commentator notes that a risk-to-reward ratio of $20,000 is “compelling.”

One analyst claims that Bitcoin (BTC) has not been this inexpensive since it cost $1,130 because BTC has a “compelling” risk/reward ratio.

image 130

On July 7, Jurrien Timmer, director of global macro at asset manager Fidelity Investments, merely called $20,000 worth of Bitcoin “cheap” in a Twitter thread. When it comes to Bitcoin’s growth despite the current bear market, the price-to-network ratio is not the only positive indicator.

Timmer added that the adoption of bitcoin still reflects the development of the internet and that the growth cycles of the bitcoin network “appears to be intact.” The price-to-network ratio is even worse when it comes to

dollar

Internationally, the price of the dollar and the euro are “practically” equal.

In light of concerns about a European market recession and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the value of the dollar and the euro are “practically” equal on a global scale.

The euro fell this Friday and was quoted at $1.01, which was its lowest level against the dollar in 20 years.

image 129

International experts anticipate that both currencies will converge within a few days. Ipek Ozkardeskaya, an analyst at SwissQuote, predicted that the Euro will continue to move closer to parity unless the ECB takes a shock action, such as raising its main interest rate by 0.50 percentage points.

A more aggressive monetary policy by the US Federal Reserve has helped the dollar even more (Fed). Growing concerns about a recession cause the euro to decline, while he dollar rises on bets that the Fed will maintain its rate hikes aggressively to curb inflation,” City Index expert Fiona Cincotta.

Gold falls into the final line of defence

This week saw a more than 3.8 percent decline in gold prices, with aXAU/USD on pace for the biggest weekly drop since June 2020.

image 128

The decline brings the sell-off streak to four straight weeks, and it pushes the price into crucial resistance for a multi-year uptrend that has been extending from the 2018 lows.

The bulls’ last line of defence is here, so we’re keeping an eye out for any potential price inflections into this crucial technical area.

The final line of defence for the 2018 uptrend, multi-year trendline support, is being tested by gold as it searches for a downward inflection.

From a trading perspective, this is a good area to lower protective stops and reduce short exposure; however, a close above 1791 is required to eliminate any potential downside exhaustion.

Bale says he immediately felt at home at Los Angeles Football Club.

Wales captain Gareth Bale stated on Friday that his decision to join Major League Soccer was motivated by the opportunity to impart his knowledge and abilities to a young Los Angeles FC team. It just seemed like the right thing to do, according to Bale. “It immediately felt like home.”

After flying into southern California, the five-time UEFA Champions League winner witnessed his new team defeat the Los Angeles Galaxy 3-2 in his first experience with the “El Trafico” derby. Bale admitted matching broadcaster ESPN that “seeing the fans live for the first time has more than kept me awake.” “What a wonderful welcome I received when I arrived. Just eager to begin and perform for these amazing supporters. The former Real Madrid player, 32

With the crowd chanting his name prior to the game, fans were content to watch Bale wave and smile at them. Bale assisted Wales in making its first World Cup appearance in 64 years in June.

Bale declared that he is prepared for the blending of his US adventure and his World Cup training in Qatar later this year. Games are the best preparation, according to Bale. “I’m here to come. I want to compete, leave my mark, and do everything in my power to help LAFC win a trophy. Bale agreed to a one-year contract with LAFC’s management that runs through 2023.

The league’s top team, LAFC, will travel to Nashville and Kansas City over the next two weeks before facing Seattle at home on July 29. The Black and Gold ended a five-match winless streak against the Galaxy to improve to 4-7 with five draws in the all-time rivalry. Jose Cifuentes, an Ecuadorian midfielder, scored a header in the 17th minute to give LAFC a 1-0 lead at the half.

However, the Galaxy drew level in the 55th minute thanks to a goal from Samuel Grandsir, a French forward. In the 70th and 72nd minutes, respectively, Cifuentes and Cristian Arango both headed in Carlos Vela’s centering passes to give LAFC a 3-1 lead. Madagascar-born Galaxy midfielder Rayan Raveloson scored with a header in the 81st minute.

Kusal and Karunaratne lead Sri Lanka’s response in the second Test

GALLE: On day two of the second Test against Australia, skipper Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis each scored tenacious half-centuries to help Sri Lanka mount a formidable response.

After a new wave of political unrest broke out in the nation, few spectators could be found in the stands as the hosts reached 184 for two at stumps in Galle. Before Mitchell Swepson broke through with the captain’s wicket, Karunaratne scored 86 runs in a gruelling 152-run partnership with Kusal.

At the end of play, Kusal and Angelo Mathews were both still in the game, with Sri Lanka trailing Australia’s first innings 364 by 180 runs. With Steve Smith still standing at 145, debutant Sri Lankan spinner Prabhat Jayasuriya took six wickets to bowl out Australia in the first session.

image 126

When Mitchell Starc’s pace bowling caused PathumNissanka to edge the ball to gully, where Cameron Green took a good catch, the hosts were dealt a quick blow. Karunaratne and Kusal, a left-right batting pair, persevered through a brilliant burst of pace bowling from Starc and captain Pat Cummins to bat out the rest of the afternoon. Karunaratne increased his fifty with a boundary off Swepson, and Australia changed up their bowling lineup as a result of Kusal’s obstinate resistance.

With Smith continuing on his 109 after scoring his first Test hundred in 18 months on day one, the tourists started the day on 298-5. Alex Carey, the overnight batsman, fell victim to a trap set by Jayasuriya, who had three wickets on the first day, and was caught at backward point for 28. Immediately after getting Starc out for one, the left-arm spinner became the seventh Sri Lankan bowler to claim five wickets in an innings in a Test.

Three Sri Lankan players—Maheesh Theekshana, Kamindu Mendis, and Jayasuriya—were given their first Test caps after a Covid outbreak forced the suspension of several players from the team.

As a result of the host nation’s painful economic crisis, there were hardly any spectators at Galle for the second day of the play. The president of Sri Lanka, who fled his home on Saturday just before a sizable crowd of protesters stormed it, was being demanded to resign by hundreds of demonstrators during the morning session. Australia has a 1-0 series lead after winning the first Test last week in just three days, giving them a decisive early advantage.

Following a Covid outbreak that forced the suspension of several members of the squad, Maheesh Theekshana, Kamindu Mendis, and Jayasuriya were the three Sri Lankan players to receive their first Test cap. Since the host nation was experiencing widespread public unrest as a result of its excruciating economic crisis, there were hardly any spectators at Galle for the second day of the play.

During the morning session, hundreds of protesters gathered outside the Galle fort to call for the resignation of Sri Lanka’s president, who left his house on Saturday just before a sizable crowd of demonstrators stormed it. After a decisive opening victory in the first Test last week that lasted just three days, Australia is ahead of the two-match series 1-0.

bismah

Bismah is optimistic about the tri-series and the Commonwealth Games.

The training camp for the Pakistani women’s national cricket team ended on Saturday in Islamabad in preparation for the tri-series in Ireland and the Commonwealth Games. Early on July 12th, the BismahMaroof-led team will depart for Belfast via Dubai (Tuesday). While getting ready for their journey to the two events, the team will take a two-day Eid-ul-Adha break on Sunday (today) and on Monday (tomorrow).

The team has spent the last nine days working out and practising in Rawalpindi and Islamabad at the Pindi Cricket Stadium and House of Northern. Despite rain delays, the team made the most of the time it had by practising various aspects of T20 cricket, such as improvised drills, net sessions, and scenario-based matches.

image 125

Under the direction of the support staff, led by head coach David Hemp, the team worked hard on fielding and physical preparation in addition to bowling and batting drills and practise. Bismah is anticipating the two difficult competitions against strong opposition.

According to Bismah, because we were unable to play practise matches due to the persistent rain, we had to shift our attention more toward fitness. We made an effort to fully utilise the indoor space that was made available to us, and despite the weather challenges, that was a big help. We have a great opportunity to acclimate to the conditions before the Commonwealth Games thanks to the tri-series in Ireland.

Young players like Tuba Hassan, Ayesha Naseem, and Fatima Sana bring real energy, talent, and skill to our team. These players are the ones of the future, and this tour is a great chance for them to leave a lasting impression. Since we need to defeat the top teams in order to win at the Commonwealth Games, we would accept the challenge of playing formidable opponents. Our goal would be to achieve victory.

On July 16, Pakistan will face Australia in the opening game of the Tri-Nation Women’s T20I Series at the Bready Cricket Club. Pakistan will play both Australia and Ireland twice, with the top two teams moving on to the championship gam.

The Bready Cricket Club will host each of the seven tournament games. Pakistan will travel to Birmingham to compete in the Commonwealth Games after the tri-series is over. Pool A includes the green shirts, the reigning T20 world champions Australia, India, and Barbados. On Friday, Pakistan takes on Barbados in their opening game (July 29). At the Birmingham Edgbaston Stadium, there will be cricket matches taking place during the Games.
